  4. Here it is the final wallet from the work log. I’m really happy with this one the new hole distance and awl width worked well, I’m pleased with the stitching. I have made a Red with red string... black with black string.. Tan with yellow string... Natural with yellow string The one here is Anticue with yellow string. The work log… http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=14770 Sorry about the fotos they are a bit off... my camera is letting me down lately.
  5. It is very griseous of you to share your book… I take my hat of to you sir.
  6. Sure…. Just don’t skive to much… I would skive it down to half the thicknes. Much more then that would waken the stitching to much… a strap or belt you can skive down thin because it will have thinker part that will hold it…. But when It comes to edges of bags one need to be careful how much one takes off.
  7. I have never order by mail from skindhuset… but I have bought a lot of stuff from them as their shop is like 1 km away from my workshop. Their shop service is great although their prices are kind of steep. Ill be sure to make a remark about their service towards you.
  8. i really like this bag... just my style
  9. Laederiet are great as im form denmark i order alot of stuff from them and thier servise in super....
  10. If u really want to learn to sew by hand this thing is a waist. I have a tool fetish and have to by tools all the time and got one of thies to se how it works… in my opinion its crap for real leather work….
  11. Looks nice…. But something doesn’t sit right with me…. The leather looks really thick the thread should bend more down at the holes so it’s a bit more of an arch. Also I would use more holes I like to use 4 mm space between holes. Also are you using a diamond shaped awl? If you are using one make sure to push the awl al the way so the thickest part of it reaches the backside. You should take a strap pies of leather and make a couple line on it and try different spaces and threads. Again a really nice go at hand stitching… just a few small adjustments to make the stitching look perfect.
  12. Ok ill do that, I am working on a wallet now... ill do it as a work log.
  13. Well the idea speaks for its self… this forum has everything but it seems to lack a work log section. Some were we can show a project as it progresses. The problems that arise the solutions also people can come with suggestions to tackle problems. Would also become a great how to do and not to do.
  14. Really nice work and color... If i may ask what color you used for this... I love that tone of brown but i cant seem to get it with the color i use.
  15. Welcome and amazing work you show there… Sadly in Europe Saddle makers are dieing breed… In Denmark we only have 2 that I know of… I have been lucky to learn from one of them… but I am long way off from being a saddle maker.
  16. Looks like I forgot to add the multiplier I made a drawing to help illustrate it.
  17. hmmm... thats odd it works on finger rings made of metal... ill look at the numbers... might be the inch thing that at foult or the bigger scale from rings that at foult... But math sould be ok... ill look at my notes from when i worked with silver rings....
  18. The thickness of the material is what shortens the length when you wrap something around an object. We can start with a box shape. If u have a lid u want to make for a box shape that’s 10x10 cm. and the thickness of the material is 0,4 cm the total length of width has to be 10 cm plus 2 times the thickness So, 10 cm + 0,4 +0,4 = 10,8… as u can se its rather substantial deferens of 8 % in this case. And the thinker the material is the greater the difference is. So we come to the round shape. Now don’t get scared of math terms tend to do that to people. The formula is rather basic… Total Length = (Material Width * Pi) + object length. Lets add some numbers well use the same ones as in the box. The object was 10 cm and thickness of material was 0,4 mm.. (0,4 * PI)+10 = 11,25664 cm and if u don’t have Pi function on calculator (0,4 * 3,14)+10 = 11,256 The Math Pi can be substituted by using the number 3,14 witch is a rounded value of PI So all u gota do is measure the wrist, the thickness of the material and multiply the thickness with 3,14… It might look complicated but it’s a rather simple straight forward formula. The problem is that this holds 100% true in solid materials like metal… but leather is rather odd and changes shape by working with it… to ensure the least amount of material trickery… color and treat the material as much as u can before making the final cuts…. This will minimize the shrinking or loosening of the material. Stiching can also realy shrink the length. Hope it helps…
  19. Really nice work. I think it really looks nice with no border…. I think if u textured the edge of the buckle a bit like the top of the belt I might blend more nicely with the rest.
  20. Tak (thanks)Im here and its all your foult :crazy:thanks all for the warm welcome
  21. If your hand stitching then you have to wax the thread. The amount of friction the thread gets really weakens the thread also it helps to conserve the thread. Its can also be used to polish the leather and gives it a really nice silky feel to it… it takes some elbow grease though to work it in. Just be careful on none died natural leather… because if its home made wax it might have impurities and might give your work a dirty look.
