I am looking at a Singer 112w sewing machine and would like to know if it is possible to change the width of the double needle. There are sometime I need 3/16" spacing and other times I need 1/2" spacing. If it can't be done on the 112w are there any other old machines that are capable of doing this?

Just a suggestion, I would ask your instructor about different sewing machines for upholstery. There are many forums that talk about car upholstery, from which you can get more information https://www.google.com/search?q=caar+upholstery+forum&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

Heavy Duty Sewing Machine For Leather
tnawrot2 replied to Matchlock's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
You won't be disappointed. -
It looks like a Singer 111w155 clone, walking foot, no reverse, small bobbin. I would rather have one made in Japan than China. Any service center that works on industrial sewing machine would be able to help you, parts are readily available. Value of the head only in the condition it is now in, $200.00 - $300.00.

Need Help Identifying This Saddle..
tnawrot2 replied to sammygwyn88's topic in Saddle Identification, Restoration & Repair
Bona Allen was bought by Tandy, which already owned Radio Shack, Tex-Tan and Schoellkoph Saddlery in Dallas, in the late 60's. The top number is the model number, the next four numbers are the month and year made 1276, December 1976, and the last numbers are the serial numbers. Some of Bona Allen also had Jumbo brand on them, a Schoellkoph logo. -
Blackrock,s Leather 'N' Rich ...I have tried numerous time to contact the maker, left message and never received an answer. Does any one know it the make a larger size? Has anyone contacted the maker and bought direct, I have no problem buying a case. A couple of months ago a leatherworker was going to contact his feed store where he gets a good price, he hasn't contacted me and I can't find the post. So if anyone knows a distributor where I can buy a case at wholesale price, please respond

Consew 206Rb5 - Which Is The Best Servo Motor For Leather?
tnawrot2 replied to grmonkeybiz's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Wiz, I was trying to get specs on the Family Sew Servo motor, the only thing I could come up with is this one. Is this the motor you use? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Family-Electronic-Servo-Motor-FESM-550N-/261224417046?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cd2304716 -
What Is Your Favourite Tool? What Wouldn't You Be Without?
tnawrot2 replied to Hallyth's topic in Leather Tools
I'm with Bruce Johnson, my sharpening equipment would be my most important tools. -
The picture shows a single layer of thin leather, try doubling or the leather to get at least 12 0z or more. Being it is new to you, do you have it threaded properly? Knots on top means loosen top tension.

Look in Craigslist or Ebay for a typewriter stand.

Consew 206Rb Skipping Stitches With Soft Leather
tnawrot2 replied to Andrew Chee's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
The needle is making too big of a hole, try a 16 needle. -
Are you trying to snap it flat or are you engaging the finger in the hole securing it them closing the snap. Look at 3:40 of this video.........http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utcyUCU62QI ;

Take it back where the work was done with your leather needles, thread and leather. As you already paid, have them adjust the timing so you don't get thread shedding.

It looks great! How did you cut the blank out of the sawblade, what did you use. Did you take the temper out of the steel, and did you have to retemper it?

Help Picking A Sewing Machine.. I Have A Few Options
tnawrot2 replied to LeatherHead99's topic in Sewing Leather
The GA5-1 will sew 1/2", which means you can sew holsters and knife sheaths. You mention you are handy, I would make a flat table insert for it to make it more versatile. If you intend to sew leather over 1/4", the two other machines won't work.
