  1. 8B is a very soft graphite. It's used for sketching and it's easier to make corrections when making patterns. Brand dosent matter to much.
  2. I do mostly machine stitching and trying to resew this with a machine may be difficult. Getting into the same holes and keeping a straight line would be more difficult than hand stitching.
  3. I've used a few of dieselpunk.ro's patterns. They're great patterns and a great way to learn. Since I didnt have the same style hole punch as he did I used dividers along the perimeter of the cut leather to layout where to use my pricking irons. For any internal hole where I cant use the dividers I use an awl to make an indent through the pattern where the holes should be then use my pricking iron.
  4. Do you need it translucent because you cover the entire pattern with it? I've used blue tape to hold patterns onto the leather
  5. I have a Cobra 4 The Marketplace is on the main page and you have to scroll down about half way. Looks like this on my phone This is the link for the sewing machine section in "Items for sale" section. https://leatherworker.net/forum/forum/82-machinery-sewing-and-stitching/ You could also try places like ebay or FB marketplace
  6. The Cowboy and Cobra are pretty similar. My choice was the Cobra only because the seller was local enough to pick it up and avoid the freight charge, which saved me $350. They come up for sale from time to time here on the forum's marketplace. Rarely under $3k but it does happen.
  7. I have this tool and it works well. As fredk said, it's personal preference. If the handle is to thin for your hand you can wrap it to make it thicker.
  8. Thanks for the feeback. I'll be calling my bank and looking at Square and Clover more closely. I breezed through the Clover and Square websites and noticed that Clover can integrate with woocommerce and other website apps. With Square it looks like you have to create an online store through them. Square hardware looks to be cheaper than Clover. I'll do more research on them.
  9. I'm opening my shop soon and was wondering what other shop owners do for payments. I would like to do all cash but in todays world it's not as convienant as it once was. On my website I'll be using WooCommerce and they take major credit cards. But need something for my brick and mortar store. Are people using something like Square or another POS? Do you accept Paypal, Cashapp or other similar apps?
  10. Welcome from TN!
  11. I dont know how it works on this particular forum but on many forums if they delete an account all posts from that person gets deleted. So it would really make a mess of older threads. Best thing to do is to eleminate any profile info you dont want on there and change your profile's email to a nonexisting email so you cant retrieve a new password. Then reset your passsword to something you wont remember. Log off and you wont be able to log back in.
  12. Welcome to the forum from Tenn
  13. "Load of waffle" in Britsh means "a bunch of gobbledegook" to us.
  14. Here's thread started in Sept about knives.
  15. The first post on that link has the photos attached but you have to become a member to see them
  16. They work good for thin leathers, under 3oz. If you try to cut thicker leathers its harder to control the blade and you may end up cutting yourself. I have 3 x-acto handles and usually use the #2 handle for small jobs
  17. I speak spanish but my family says I sound like an American I can barely write in spanish. I rarely drink mate but I'm always ready for an asado. Lets throw in some home made empanadas too.
  18. Welcome! I was born in Buenos Aires and moved to the US 54 years ago.
  19. It looks like a high gloss shine
  20. Can you have the person take a picture of the badge with a ruler? You can then print it to the correct size.
  21. From his website "Copyright info: You can sell a maximum of 10 items made with this pattern each year." I could sell limited runs of his patterns but I can do that with my own designs.
  22. That looks like Japanning or Tool Black. It's a protective lacquer coating against rust, mostly for tools. Lacquer thinner should remove it but I would redo the blacking or use cold bluing to protect your tools.
  23. I hand stitched it all. I punched the holes in the brim then just pushed the needles through the thin leather I used for piping while feeding the wire.
  24. I made a hat a while back. I used galvinized wire for the brim so I could shape it. I made the crown a little bigger than I needed so I could make a leather band on the inside to size it better. I used several coats of undiluted resolene to seal it. The only real regret was I made it to round.
  25. Look great! To avoid the skipped stitches on turns make sure your needle is beginning its up stroke before you turn your leather. This will ensure your stitch made a knot.
