  1. I wasn't able to track down Craftool that's similar so far. You can try this place. I've bought from them in the past and they have a few somewhat similar. https://proleathercarvers.com/collections/background-stamps/products/e481-background-matting
  2. Is this the one https://www.ebay.com/itm/333575752337?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=b60briaxqgs&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
  3. Just to be clear don't draw on the leather where a person will see the marks. Draw on paper, tracing velum would be best, then align the paper where you want it and use something; a stylus or pencil, to trace the image onto the leather
  4. Depending on the application I use either 7B-9B pencils, an awl, or a silver pen. The pencils I use on unfinished vegtan because like you I have difficulty seeing the mark with an awl An awl or silver pen on finished leather. Silver is easier to see on black. On the flesh side I use either an awl or silver pen
  5. I worked on it a bit more
  6. My shop went from a small corner of a garage. To a 16'x44' Amish build shed. One thing I like: space!!! One thing I don't like: still want more space! (I think I have a problem )
  7. Thanks! I have an issue with going to hard handed in my pencil work so I tend to try to go easy with any beveling cause you cant erase a bevel as easily. LOL Another issue I have is I drag my tools instead of letting them bounce so I wind up digging in instead of having a smooth glide.
  8. I'm trying to improve my figures and tooling in general. I'm watching yt videos such as Jim Linnel and I'm slowly getting the hang of it. Critiques and tips help me out a lot as I work so hit me with it!
  9. I like it! The only change I would make would be to round off the corners so they don't dog ear.
  10. Will something like this work? https://www.buckleguy.com/b9788-antique-brass-round-foot-zinc-multiple-sizes/
  11. This looks a bit like your machine
  12. I have some old dried oak trim I plan on using to make these.
  13. Looks great! Looking forward to seeing it when it's done.
  14. Thightness depends on function. If your friend wants a quick draw holster then you dont want it tight at all. If its standard carrying holster you want it a little snug but you dont want it to lock in. Normally with western holsters you dont have to wet mold, although people do. When you make the holster you make a retention strap to hold the pistol in place
  15. This is beautiful! Now I need one.
  16. Boy this brought back some memories. My first real job that paid me actual money was making sails. Back in early 80s, I was 13 or 14, would leave school early and learned how to make sails for a company called Fowler sails in Miami. I was able to help my family pay some bills.
  17. I currently do belts, bags, and wallets but I'm getting into horse tack so I'd like to try polybonded for that and dog gear. Thanks
  18. Are we talking about hand sewing or machine sewing? I'll answer for each one. Where do you buy your sewing thread? I usually buy my thread through whomever I may be making other purchases to save on shipping. Machine thread was was through Zack White Leather. Hand sewing thread was Amazon. Which brands do you prefer? Hand sewing Ritza 25 Tiger thread How much or bobbins of thread do you typically use for your projects (monthly or per project)? It really depends on the thread size. Machine thread I can use two bobbins in a day of 207. Much less of 69 thread. Hand sewing I use much less because I don't do much hand sewing anymore. How many different colors do you usually work with or have in your shop? Generally I will use Black, Brown, and White. If there's a special request I'll use any other color, at an up charge. What’s the typical price range you pay for your threads? Around $30 US for 16oz of bonded nylon 277. Around $10 for 50 meters of Ritza 0.6mm What type of thread do you prefer (polyester, nylon, bonded, waxed etc.) and why? Bonded nylon
  19. Really well done!
  20. They sure do https://www.weaverleathersupply.com/search?options[prefix]=last&q=Rifle
  21. 8B is a very soft graphite. It's used for sketching and it's easier to make corrections when making patterns. Brand dosent matter to much.
  22. I do mostly machine stitching and trying to resew this with a machine may be difficult. Getting into the same holes and keeping a straight line would be more difficult than hand stitching.
