  1. I am starting to make dog collars and leashes and would like a recommendation on a sewing machine that could help me accomplish this task without going broke purchasing one. I will be working with leather, mil spec nylon webbing, seat belt material, and biothane. I would like to be able to do 2 ply leather, 2 to 4 ply nylon webbing, and 4 ply seat belt collars. I would need a machine that could handle this and not need constant repair in doing so. I would also need to be able to stich along edges with ease. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Al
  2. I've been doing leatherwork as a hobby for a few years. I've come into a little extra money and I'm looking at buying a machine that can handle heavy duty sewing. I tend to make things like holsters, collars, bags, pouches, and armor. Most of my work is with veg tan in the 8-12 oz range. I don't think I have enough to buy anything new, so that means I'm looking in the used market. I've done some reading, and there are a ton of options out there. I'd like something that will work reliably without too much fiddling or repairs needed. I'm able to go up to maybe 1100 or 1200 with shipping if it's truly the best choice for me, but I'd like to stay under a grand. I'd like advice or general suggestions. If you're selling something that you think is within my budget, post here or PM me. I'm in Rhode Island and willing to drive a little ways to pick something up.
  3. Tippman Boss in good condition. Comes with flat bed attachment, assorted presser feet, extra bobbin shuttle, edge guide, variety of extra needles sizes, bobbins, thread, tools, manual, original box, etc. $975, buyer pays shipping, or if local pickup you can have the table it's mounted on and the attached lamp. Located near Austin, TX PM me or text 512-585-8062 Thanks,
  4. Hey everyone, it's been a long time since I posted anything, so I figured I'd do a quick update while the coffee is brewing. This is just something I wanted to do. I've been doing a lot of "production" type stuff and I needed to take a break and do something that would challenge my artistic side. I like it and I look forward to making more art pieces. This is a mouse pad I made for a Jewish friend. Happy Hanukkah! A fun journal cover I made. I've been watching a ton of Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones lately. Does it show? Simple folding money clip/wallet. A nice dress belt. An ex-serviceman contacted me about making this wallet for him. I was really excited to do it, told him not to worry about a deposit, and got after it. I tried to ask him what he wanted in the banner and he never got back to me. After it was finished, he never got back to me. Still haven't heard from him. Valuable lesson learned. A Harley belt I did for a co-worker. The eagle was done with mostly a modeling tool. It was my first time using one and now I realize how indispensable they are. My pups Christmas gift. My brothers Christmas gift. The knife was something my late father gave him. Making this belt and sheath was really special for me. A couple more of the folding wallet money clips. These are also special to me. They are two of six items ordered from me to be carried in a local retail boutique. First time my stuff is being carried in a store. And now I'm in the market for a sewing machine. Business has really picked up and I'm struggling to keep up with orders and work a full time job. A sewing machine would really help me out and broaden my horizons a bit too. I'd love to start doing costumes and bags. Any suggestions? Any helpful hints on my work? Thanks for looking!!
  5. My Ferdco 440 is sewing in reverse. I have no idea why it is doing this and I don't know where the switch is. Can anyone help? Thanks!
  6. Like most everyone, I come to the sewing machine section for advice. I'm thinking seriously about a new machine. I only know what i've read here. The Techsew 3650HD looks like a good deal on a machine. The only thing I really see lacking is a walking foot. Does anyone have any feedback on that machine? I'd be using it to mainly sew motorcycle bags (2 layers of 8oz), holsters, wallets, and belts. I've never used a leather sewing machine before. Again, like everyone else, I'm not trying to spend a fortune on a machine. My thought with this machine is that it could handle all the heavier task and I could still do some hand sewing on smaller projects until I could afford a second machine better suited for lighter leather. Unless, of course, you guys think this machine might be able to handle the lighter stuff also. I appreciate any input.
  7. Portable Walking Foot Sewing Machine, good for sewing leather, vinyl, denim and canvas, This machine will sew leather up to 3/8" thick. Perfect for do it your selfers, sailboaters, or crafters who want to sew heavy fabrics that a single needle cannot handle. The foot is split and alternates going up and down to facilitate bulky items moving through the machine. It has a hard case. Barely used. Belonged to my mother-in-law. She practiced on it, but never used it and it has been sitting in a closet ever since. No manual. Shipping UPS Ground. Shipping cost will vary depending on destination. Sewing machine located in Kissimmee, FL. Asking $250 plus shipping.
  8. Hello, I have an used CAMPBELL Lock-Stitch Sewing Machine that I would like to sell. It is in perfect working condition with some accessories, the electrical motor assemble but no table. Asking price $3500 FIRM. I am located in Vancouver Canada.
  9. We have a used Singer 29K72 industrial machine for sale. We use it to make braces in our orthotics business. Unfortunately, downsizing our office space requires that we sell it. While it has a motor (1/3 H.P., 250 volts), we only use it to sew by hand. The motor works and needs a new belt. The machine is mounted on a sturdy metal stand. If you are interested, please share your questions or schedule an appointment to see it in Annapolis, Maryland. Contact dmikutsky@allianceorthopedic.com or call Rich at 410-224-2000. All cash offers will be considered. Thank you.
  10. Hi everyone I make bags and accessories using mainly 4-6oz leather, every now and again up to 10oz. I have a PFAFF 1245 flat bed, and while I love her dearly, from what I'm seeing on the forums, she's just not the right machine for the job. From what I gather, people recommend a cylinder machine for bags - which makes perfect sense to me. But not knowing anything about these machines, I feel a little bit out-of-my-depth when it comes to making an informed consumer purchase. There is someone selling a DDN-738 YAKUMO on craigslist for $1550 (http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/van/hsh/4032840158.html) and I was wondering if anyone had: a) heard of this brand/machine had any experiences with this machine/brand c) knows whether this is a good price d) has an opinion on whether or not it'll be suitable for my purposes (my website is www.divina-denuevo.com if you'd like to take a look). I've tried googling reviews of the machine, but all I have found is a youtube video of someone using it. I hope someone can help! Thanks Victoria
  11. Hello, I am really new to the forum, but this place has been a grt place, to help me start with a leather projects & crafts. after working for while, I decided to buy a machine and I need in terms of recommendations, feedbacks etc., in help buying cylinder arm machine. which is capable of using big thread and needle size to work with Bridle butt leather of 2 to 3 layer of 10 to 13 oz leather. I am considering of buying singer 45k89, with alternative foot. But, i read so many post and articles on this forum about foot marks left on the work piece (veg tan/bridle leathers). I looked around and I kind of made up my mind to go with adler 105-64 needle feed, which I believe can help in reducing the marks on the leather, since its a needle feed and i can grind the grooves on the feed dog! I will be delightful, if member of this forum can help me in deciding, to which cylinder arm machine to go for ? and where can I buy it from. People who are willing to sell their adler 105-45 or any cylinder arm sewing machine within uk, inbox me with price and other details? NB: I am not willing to spend too much, looking somewhere around 400£ to 500£ Any feedback or response will be very much appreciated. Thank you Quote MultiQuote Edit

  13. I hope I'm not breaking any rules by posting this here but I thought it should be said. A couple of days ago I was browsing the web, looking for more information on electric machines, (Cobra's to be specific), and came across a place in southern California called "Leather Machine Co. Ltd.." Let me first say this isn't an ad, nor do I work for this company. I spoke (via email) to a very nice gentleman by the name of Dave, about the Cobra Class 3 and 4 machines, and he seemed to be very knowledgeable about them. The point of this post is to say that this would be one of the first places I'd go if I was looking for a machine of that type. He was extremely helpful, but more over, he was also very kind. He really made me feel comfortable, and I thought that since the Leatherworker.net forum is the place that speaks volumes about sewing machines, and other related equipment, that it would be a good place to mention that there are good vendors out there. I'm certain there are other excellent people in the business also, but this is one that really stood out for me. Thanks for reading this, and I hope it helps someone someday. Matchlock
  14. i have a singer 97-10 for sale. it was military use, then a saddlemaker had it. I have used it for 2 years now. It works good. I have a box of around 50 needles that go with it. Heavy duty machine. Needle feed. you can email me at samsmithframer@gmail.com thanks . its in oklahoma.
  15. I have what is probably a newb question, but I've read thru alot of the forum before asking it, because it isn't specifically addressed. My question is: "Would it be possible to use a foot operated or crank handle antique Singer for sewing leather?" I know I've seen questions out there about using a home machine vs industrial machune, but none of them mentioned the foot pedal manually operated machines. Since it is brought up so much about the machines being set up with too fast of a speed, I was wondering how one of those would work. I have my eye on a a 99 Singer and a 128 Singer. I bring this up because I spent some time at a plant that made real braided rugs, and after getting a quote for the $3000 per machine for commercial quality, they went around and collected some of these old girls and set them up. Absolutelyl NO sewing machine would go thru that stuff, but those did. Sincerely, Twitterpate

  17. I have a Consew 206rb-5 in tremendous condition and has been well maintained. I upgraded the clutch motor to a servo motor and love its performance. I would not be selling the machine if I hadn't found an artisan I like at such a great price. This machine has served me very well. Includes, table, servo motor, and all accessories. I also have an extra mechanical clutch motor I would consider sending with it. I am located in Portland OR feel free to call! 715-271-9558 item is to large to ship so I would prefer pickup only or I could deliver within 50-100 miles. This machine has provided all my needs up to currently. I am only upgrading. Still very happy with the machine! Asking price is $1000 Tony

  21. I am looking at buying a leather sewing machine. Mostly for belts, guitar straps, chaps, maybe a holster or sheath down the road. Three I am looking at are a singer 7-11, singer 331k105, and an Adler 37 -26. These are local machines that I can play with before i buy, but I was wondering if anyone could tell me the capabilities on them and any recommendations on them. Thanks David
  22. Hi. I have been carving for about a year and a half. I like to make custom halters, headstalls, and Breastcollars. I purchased a Cobra class 4 in January 2012 and the first 9 months were great but after that I started having problems with it. I am looking to buy a new machine that can sew up to 1/2 inch leather. Most of my tack is no thicker than 3/8, but I want one with plenty of power and a reputation for reliability. Thanks!
  23. Hello, I have been reading a lot on the forums about sewing machines, and there is a lot of information! I sew leather and rubber, specifically inner tubes - you can check out my work here: http://www.brigidko.tumblr.com So far I have established that I think I should be looking for a walking foot sewing machine with a compound triple feed. I tried out a friend's Tachsew T11-155 and it worked well, but I see on here that the consensus is that Tachsew's may be kind of a junkie machines in the long run. I'd love any feedback or suggestions. I'm ready to buy a machine this week!
  24. Hi folks, There's a JUKI DNU-241H for sale in my area, and I was curious what people thought about them. I will be doing more research the next few days, and will contact the seller to check it out. I was hoping you good people would share some of your opinions on them. Thanks! Gen
  25. Hi, I am new to leather and dived straight in and bought a leather sewing machine. I'm loving it. However, I've made a few wallets and I am noticing a problem I don't know how to fix. If you look at the photo below, you'll see the bottom holes are not clean - the leather gets pushed out. On this wallet, I sewed the top holes from the top and the bottom holes from the reverse side, so you can see the difference. So the problem holes are what happens to the under side of the wallet when I am running it through the machine. This problem doesn't happen with all leathers. Just this buffalo calf. Any idea why this is happening and how I can fix it? Thanks, James
