  1. Hi, I am hoping someone can help me identify an issue with my new cobra class 26 sewing machine. I just received it on Monday and assembled it yesterday, which seemed rather straightforward. I just got the machine turned on and running this morning and am concerned about this loud sound the machine is making while in use. It seems to be coming from under the machine. I reached out to leather machine co. but am awaiting a response. I was hoping someone in the meantime could offer any insight. Please check out the videos. Thank you! IMG_3123 (4).mov

    Boot Camp

Pit of despair. Sewing a zipper into the heel of a riding boot. First time installing a zipper. I welcome your tips and advice. My double stick tape didn't stick to the leather so I used a dab of Barge cement on the bottom and binder clips to hold the zipper for sewing. I hand sewed the zipper into the heel then used a machine for the rest.
  3. Hello everyone I am new in the leather work industry and I am making dog collars and leashes and sewing them by hand. But now I am interested in buying a sewing machine to speed up the process and be even more precise. I am doing some research online but it's very difficult to understand what machine will be the one perfect for me. I am working with natural leather that is 3/3.5 oz thick and/or natural leather 3oz plus a padding made with soft leather (0.8/1oz) and some foam. What would you suggest I could buy? My budget is 500/600 CAD. I found two Omega machines on e-bay that seem interesting but I read good and bad things about them at the same time (model Omega 307 and Omega walking foot WF22ZZ). Thank you a lot for your help!
  4. I recently purchased a Pfaff 138-6/21-BS and I'm looking for information I can get on the specific machine. I've been trying to figure out what it will be capable of and how I can help make it capable of chaps and maybe some lightweight tack. I've heard multiple different answers as to what thread and needles it's able to use, and I'm just wondering if I can get an answer for what it's maximum is. I also had some questions on the feet and the drop down feeds on it. Here are my questions: 1. What are my machines maxes for thread and needles? 2. Will it be able to do sets of chaps like I'm wanting? 3. What kind of feet are available to me that would be suitable for chaps? 4. Will the drop down feeds tear of the grain side of chrome tan leather or vegtan? 5. If it does, is there anyway I can potentially avoid the problem? Thank you so much in advance! I'm super excited to have this machine as well, as it's my very first sewing machine. I'm just starting out as an actual leather business and I'm hoping this machine will help me get started!
  5. Hello, all right, I would like your help to find the brand of this machine to restore it.
  6. Hi everyone! This is the quick Sheath I made with my new Leatherwork. Sorry about the video being sideways, I am going to try and fix that! My first sheath Chip from CHIPPPER BAGS
  7. Good day . I recently bought a rex rx67d machine from a gentleman who bought a tailor shop for his dad, who was coming over from India soon. He sold it as a broken machine because he said the needle wobbled...lol...(its a compound feed). Anyways, does anyone know anything about these machines? Good? Bad? I retrofitted it with 1 hp servo motor, replacing the half horse clutch motor. Haven't sewn with it yet, had to order a drive belt and bobbins. Any thoughts? Oh...I have a half horse clutch motor if anyone needs it.
  8. Hey guys. I’m trying again to make leather pouches and bags and am confused on how to sew them without the stitches showing. I sew then flip it inside out right? Is there an easy way to explain it to me or do you have pictures on it? (I could just look on YouTube but I don’t understand the videos sometimes.). I want to make some pouches for some of my hardware since I don’t have a tool rack yet.
  9. Made some rubber reins using Equus grips from Abbey England and HO bridle leather. These grippy reins are used for jumping and cross country courses. Had fun sealing the edges with beeswax using an old Dixon edge iron from @PeterMain. Shout out to @jcuk for the tip about locating the fixed loop closer to the bar of the buckle.
  10. Need help identifying this sewing machine can’t find anything on it online. Pics
  11. Excellent condition. Very little use. Accessories included. Pick up in Murrieta, CA Phone# 9513170040.
  12. So I need to sew close to hardware as shown in the picture and the best I can come up with is to have my needle face the hardware do forward stitch two backward stitches flip it around and then go to the next piece of hardware turn it 90° go across back stitch twice cut the thread and repeat on the other side. In other words two L shapes. I'm hoping someone else has run into this and has a much more elegant solution, any help is much appreciated.

  15. Leather embossing Machine $1200. New, used 2 or 3 times to test only. Comes with lettering system and rolls of foils, padding and tape for plates. I and asking $1300 I'm closing a leather and sewing school. I purchased everything right before Covid. 16. I recently purchased some python snakeskin. I would like to make a jacket out of it, will I need to back the leather before sewing? Or will it hold the stitches together? if backing is needed, could you please advise on best procedure/ material please?

  20. I am looking at buying myself an industrial cylinder bed sewing machine. I mainly do small to mid sized projects like belts, wallets, bags, etc. I have been looking into buying a Cobra class 26 until recently I found a 10 year old Adler K269 single needle walking foot for sale for around $1700 for stand and everything. I am wondering if this is a good deal, and if it a high quality machine with similar capabilities as the Cobra class 26. Any information on this would be a huge help.
  21. Hello. I am a newbie to this site, and couldn’t find a thread (lol) about this topic I make heavy duty dog collars and harnesses, mostly using 9/10 oz leather, sometimes as low as 7 oz. I need a good, strong thread that will take some abuse and not stretch out. Most of what I find is thread made for hand sewing - this is for a machine (Master Tools Cub Manual). What do you all use / suggest? It would be nice if I could find something with a good selection of colors. Thank you
  22. Great machine if you can’t afford to spend thousands on a leather sewing machine. I’m starting nursing school and won’t have the time for it and I need money. https://redding.craigslist.org/for/d/igo-pfaff-545-walking-foot-industrial/7216319921.html

  24. Luberto Classic Heavy Duty Sewing Machine. My father was a saddle maker and this was his machine. It's heavy cast iron on a wood table top. All one piece. Pedal or manual sewing for controlled stitching. Works perfectly. Very heavy and will need to be picked up from Pioneertown, Ca. (near Yucca Valley/Joshua Tree) I'm sorry I really don't know much about the mechanics of it but I know it works fine and never had any issues. Purchased new in 2008. Asking $5000 obo.
  25. Quick (and most likely rhetorical) question... When doing a straight line stitch, I get that I want to go back over my starting stitch to lock it in and then again at end. When doing the complete circumference of a piece (like going around a wallet) 360 degrees, do I need to do the same or does overlapping the starting stitch with the end by 2-3 stitches suffice. Thanks // Brian
