Hey guys I recently bought a bench grinder that I would like to use to burnish belts, I need to burnish the flesh side and also the edges too, sanding shouldnt be as much of a use. Whats the best way to do this? I was thinking having one side wooden burnisher with grooves and the other side a sleeve of canvas for the flesh side, is that the best way to do it? Thanks heaps!

This is just a very handy tool I have come up with that I mostly use for quick removal of thickness when I do my Crocodile backstrap belts. I have found by putting in place a steady at the front it can be rotated back to act as a thicknesser. I have sandwiched a coarse sandpaper between the rotating guide/steady, and this works well to hold firmly in place wherever I set the steady to.The steady can rotate right out of the way to allow free hand sanding or right in to touching.See the pics. The newer model I am working on will have a foot pedal to allow it to be opened and come back to an adjustable stopper which will improve the input of materials.Although I have bandkni…

Does anyone have information on where to find a Hot Creasing Iron specifically in 110V for the US? I found a couple Regad M3000, which is lovely, but only the machines (no handle or tips) and they all seem to be 220V-240V. Campbell-Randall is all sold out. Any other options or places out there?

As promised here are some photos of the Ellegi/Atom GL12 skiving machine I bought and the start of the modifications I want to make. The machine was owned by an older couple closing their shoe making shop and was in great condition. The model I bought has two motors: 1 for the vacuum and 1 clutch motor that runs the blade and feed wheel. The feeding speed was much too fast for my use. As I only paid about 200 euro for it I decided I would try to make the feed wheel independent of the blade. I also wanted to be able to finely control the feed speed, for example being able to very slowly feed the leather in and then gradually increase the speed as I skive. I resea…

Please forgive my noob status and ignorance. I just bought an American leather splitter, beautifully refurbished. But I am unable to split the leather --i must be completely retarded because I thought all you had to do was set the gauge for the thickness and crank the handle, feeding the leather in from the back. No matter what lever/gauge setting .. and I've tried several, right down to the tightest. I see the roller moving well in conjunction with the thickness level but the 5/6 oz leather just feeds through, coming out the bottom entirely unscathed, must less split with any finished split piece coming out the top. When he showed me the machine in the back o…

I have acquired two differenct model of ESTO leather and plastic trimmers. I haven't found any information on the web on ESTO products. Thje trimmers need new Cutter (top) blades., while the scorer (bottom) is OK. Having cleaned out many years of grime and dirt, one cuts 6mm heal material real well, the other is way to worn. Does anyone know any about ESTO gear and are spare parts available? I will up load some photos shortly.

Anyone using the drop-down roller guide on their heavy machines like the class 4 and 5100's? I like the idea, even had been considering making something along those lines before i found it but, i just haven't pulled the trigger yet. I see some versions have an accessory flat guide that is interchangable with the roller, any advantages? Ideas, comments, stories? thx

The following is long and my experience for dying, oiling leather. My journey to airbrushing and the cost of a small setup not including a spray booth. How I got here: i) Tried the dabber method I could not get consistent results from one piece to another and used to much dye. ii) Tried the dipping method got consistent results just never liked what it done to veg tan leather or the end result. iii) Tried the brushing method getting consistent results were difficult. iv) Tried the continuous spray bottle that women use for misting hair but typically gave a spotty coverage. The spray bottle was large, clumsy and awkward to use. v) Tried the…

So recently I bought several things from C.S. Osborne and decided to share my experience. I needed a leather splitter and even though there was little firsthand info on that particular one I decided to get it because of the good name they have and the few videos on youtube where it seems to work great. But the reality is that is a piece of garbage that is waaay overpriced. First of all there are a lot of wobble in the rotating axle. So if you pull the leather down (this way the rotation helps you and the pull is easier) the axle moves and you just can’t get even split, no matter what you try. So you should pull it towards yourself which is quite harder but not impos…
