  1. I used Barge for 20 years and got tired of getting ripped off on the flammable charge of 20.00. So i started using Weldwood 2 years ago and i can't see much if any difference in it or Barge. Plus i can get Weldwood at the hardware store and don't have to pay a flammable charge. Once in a while i get a piece of leather that soaks up the glue like your talking about. I put another quick coat on that piece and it works fine and i had some leather that did the same thing with Barge. So far the best thing about Weldwood IMO is i haven't had to add any thinner because it dosen't get thick like Barge. It you have a piece that doesn't tack up as quick as you want hit with a hairdryer sometimes i need to do that in the winter. I buy the gallon cans.
  2. I think he's calling edgeing skiving because the edges in the picture are burnished and are not rolled.
  3. I'm pretty sure it won't sew what your wanting to sew. It looks like household machine to me.
  4. Your computer should have a picture program where you can resize them or you can look online for a program to resize them.
  5. Edge and burnish your sample. You might be surprised on how it looks.
  6. Put your stuff in what ever you want to use. They will only be in there the time it takes the mail to run. I've sent packages overseas and sometimes it may take a couple of weeks and i've never had any type of problem.
  7. I don't have a clone but i oil my machine every couple of days depending on how much i use it. I'm just guessing cause i never counted but i'd say 5 or 6 drops in all the holes.
  8. Looks to me like it's a chrome tan leather. 5/6 ounce generally is as thick as you will find it. Springfield leather has it. 10.00 a foot is way high IMO.
  9. Give Bob at Toledo sewing machine 866 362 7397 a call he will get you set up.
  10. If any of the threads still out past the pulley when it's on try putting a nut on the end to hold the pulley on.
  11. It's a shoe machine for sewing soles from the inside. I have no ideal what brand it is. Try searching Mc Cay maybe Mac Kay sewing machines, not sure if either one of the names is the right spelling. Looks like were typing at the same time or close to it.
  12. Keep you hand and fingers behind the blade. Sometimes a knife will slip when your cutting and hit a hard spot.
  13. They look nice but it doesn't look like they are edged or burnished. IMO that would help the looks a lot, not that they look bad now.
  14. Check out Enco for a surface plate. They have free shipping on the 12 x 18 x 3 sometimes. That's where i got mine from.
  15. I find 20.00 postage hard to believe. I've sent several packages to Canada and the ones that weigh a pound were 10.00 to 12.00 first class mail.
  16. Their are some movies on you tube about how to set a skiver like yours.
  17. They look to me like their regular double caped rapid rivets. Springfield Leather has nickle over brass ones and the domer tool.
  18. Yes sharpen your knife before the buffing wheel. The wheel is like a super strop, if your knife isn't in really bad shape using the wheel should help it anyway.
  19. Learned something new today. I'm glad things worked out for you on your machine.
  20. I have a regular ole tablet belt sander. On it use 50 grit to get things where i want them then use a 180 grit, edge and then burnish. i use the aluminum oxide belts.
  21. I'd leave the ebay one alone for several reasons. 1 where are you going to get parts if you need them ? ( seems i read that they are made in India) 2 no dealer support 3 it's to much money for what you get. If you want a patch machine i would get a Singer or Adler. With them you can get most of your money back if what your wanting to doesn't work out. JMO
  22. Tom if you have a bench grinder get a buffing wheel and some buffing compound. Load the wheel with compound and dress the edges on your knife. MAKE SURE YOU WORK BELOW THE CENTER LINE OF THE BUFFING WHEEL OR IT WILL TAKE YOUR KNIFE AWAY FROM YA !!!!
