  1. I have used the paint from wal mart, folk art band i think and never have had any problems or nobody has something that i painted with has said it didn't hold up.
  2. The mallet you have isn't heavy enough to work very well as you have found out. I would get a 20 or 22 ounce maul.
  3. I think Tandy has or had a book like what you want. But i think most folks get some scrap and take off till they find a pattern they like. If you do that make sure you write down what stamps you use so you can make another if you want to.
  4. Your more than welcome if anything i said has helped you out. I had a machine like yours for a little while but sent it back, i couldn't stand hearing the compressor running all the time and bought the Pro 2000 i've had for 20 years are close to it.
  5. I didn't mean to take it apart just loosen it. Sorry about that. The spring and disk are your tension. The thread goes through the top tension one time and the tension on the one and half times then on down to your needle. Thread it the same way Bob is threading his machine I loosen both the top and side tension sew and tighten as needed. You will probely need to loosen your bottom tension if it's pretty snug when you pull on the bobbin thread. Just loosen a half a turn or less. The screw in the bobbin is real short.
  6. I back the top tension off just about as far as it will go and sew a little piece and tighten up as needed when i have one that's way out of whack. Does the bottom tension pull out easy ?
  7. A lifetime or 99 year warranty is setting your business up to fail. What are you going to do when a stirrup leather wears out? Put a new on for no charge ? That's what the customer is going to expect after all you gave a lifetime or a 99 year warranty. Some will understand nothing last forever others are going to hold you to and if you don't fix what ever it is their going to trash you to everbody they see. If you fix everthing they tear up or that wears out your going to be out of business pretty quick because you will be out your labor and materials.
  8. What weight are you trying to sew ? It may be to light for that machine. Try sewing 2 or 3 pieces together and see what happens.
  9. I've never made armor. But i would get some poster board and start fitting to your model, you will need to leave a tail on the patterns so you can sew / rivet one piece to the next. It may take a couple of tries to get things right, but in the end you of made your own pattern of your own design. Go for it !!!
  10. My advice would be set your price where it needs to be for you to make money and not worry about what everbody else is selling theirs for. If you worry about what somebody else is selling their stuff for you will never have any piece of mind. Sure some may be a little better quality but a lot will be worse quality. JMHO After going and looking at your site i would make the pictures bigger and get a different color background for your pictures. It always amazes me that people have a whole website and put little pictures up of what their selling. Personally i want a picture big enough that i can see detail if i'm going to spend my money on that product.
  11. The only person i know that works on them is Gateway in St. Louis Mo. i'm sure their others that do work on them. It would probley be cheaper to buy another machine. Pilgrim Sewing sells parts.
  12. On a side cut length wise and don't use the belly for anything where strength is required it will stretch out of shape .
  13. The Osborne one's are all i have ever used and they work great.
  14. I use the Osborne's and they work fine punch a hole stick the grommet in put the top on give it a whack and your done.
  15. Anne i'm no expert. But i would get a heavy machine first that would sew 3/4 inch. I have a Ferdco Pro 2000 that i use for 95 % of the work that i do. It will sew down to about 5 ounce leather and do a nice stitch. I'm guessing in your part of the world Adlers and Paff's are more plentiful. I don't know what model numbers to look for though. Trox seems to know quite a bit about both the Adler and Paff machines so he may be able to help on which machines to look for.
  16. Make it out of wood ? I have made forms for cell phones and stuff using a wood form.
  17. The butt is the best part of the hide. The neck has more stretch just from the cow moving it's back and forth and up and down.
  18. Aurelie your saddle looks nice. For me personally i would have to have a different colored seat though. Your bridle and breast strap look good to. One suggestion i would make on your stitching is to sew the length of the breast strap then do your fold over and stitch at the D rings. Doing it that way just looks a lot better and neater to me.
  19. I think your horse would of made a bigger hole when it came through unless it's head was between it's legs when it came through. You tears on the panther are going the wrong way unless it's backing out. If the panther is headed in the tears would be going inside.
  20. Did you push on the pedal a little while your trying to turn the wheel ? That engages the clutch in on the motor.
  21. No problem, nobody knows everthing but some think they do. I learn something new every day.
  22. Put a welt in and make your customer happy. The rivets will dull his or her's knives.
  23. On the bottom of the leather ? If it's skining things up on the bottom it's the feed dog. I just looked at your machine online and it's not what you need to sew leather with. It may sew a little while but i don't think it will last long sewing billfolds.
  24. If it's the foot take it off and file away. If it's the feed dog their was talk about doing that. Do a search and it should come up.
  25. Go to the bank and borrow the money that's what i did. All the payments you make to something that will be yours. Renting / leasing is paying to use and it's still theirs. JMHO
