  4. Their is a difference and it's a BIG ONE ! A person comes into the light and out of the darkness when they use a handmade tool.
  5. Make a pattern out of poster board with all the D rings on it and hold it up on your horse just to check before you cut leather to check your fit.
  6. LOL I bet he wasn't happy.
  7. I had a big guy come in one time and ask about a belt. It wound up being 60 something inch's long. He got two because he couldn't find one anywhere that fit.
  8. cmantz sent you a PM.
  9. 5 / 6 ounce ougth to be about right. Stitch it with regular thread. The only thing that should have to be sewed is the straps and the waist strap is going to around to the side and the neck piece round his neck if he gets the thread burned there he's going to be burned. I would use paper unless you have a old shop apron, if you do you can use it for a pattern. I would tie it in the back like regular apron..
  10. Do you have a bag punch ? If you do get a piece of poster board or something like that measure the width of the buckle and the tongues mark that on your poster board and punch them out. Try your buckle to see how it fits and if it does mark on your leather with your pattern that you made.
  11. Just went back and read all the post and i didn't see anything about a mask for a motorcycle. Original poster asked about the weight for tooling on a mask.
  12. I always make each side around 16 inches long finished. That's not counting D rings. Tugs / straps 23 inches long to start with.
  13. That's the best i have as far as the color.
  14. Here ya go, down towards the bottom of the page. http://www.thethreadexchange.com/miva/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=TTE&Category_Code=polyester-thread-size-207l
  15. Quote.....Despise what the dealers will tell you; the heavy stitcher's are no good on light stuff. Trox i disagree with you on that. here are a couple of pictures i took tonight of some pieces i sewed on my Pro 2000 with 277 on top and 207 on the bottom. No tension adjustment. The pink is 3 ounce folded once the other is 4 pieces of 12 ounce. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v285/dirtclod50/stuff%20i%20made/1FRONT.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v285/dirtclod50/stuff%20i%20made/1BACK.jpg
  16. Here ya go http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=44896 . You can see if he still has it.
  17. My thinking is that I could always start off with a flat bed machine and then sell it, if and when I need to upgrade to a cylinder arm. Your thinking backwards get a cylinder arm machine first and then if you think you need it get a flat bed attachment for it. Depending on how you make your breast collars you could be sewing over a 1/2 inch real easy. On my Pro 2000 i can sew pretty thin and get a nice stitch or sew thick and get a nice stitch. I would get the bigger machine with a 16 inch arm. As far as using a Cowboy or Cobra i never have even seen one in person so i can't comment on them. But i have talked to to Bob and ordered quite a few things from him and have got great service. Never have talked to or ordered from Steve.
  18. My suggestion is to get some more leather top grain no splits and just chalk this time as a lesson learned in what not to buy. No i'm not trying to give a smart a@# answer. I know i have bought stuff that didn't work out. Lessons i have paid for stick a lot better than ones that people have told me.
  19. The flower thing is your splash anvil it spreads the rivet or whatever out in all directions. Mighty fine job on getting it back in shape !!!
  20. So far their hasn't been any problems with it drying out and i have some that has been mixed up for several months. I found out about using denatured alcohol on here.
  21. http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=45726&hl= Weaver leather has them in black if you have a tax number.
  22. Toolingaround, make sure to one for each color and write on the syringe what the color is. It saves some headaches.
