  1. My guess is they bought the leather all ready that color. If you want it dyed a certain color i would do that after i cut them out and before i sewed. I would sew them togeather before i tried to mold. Just a guess i think i would use 3 / 4 or 5 / 6 ounce. But i never have made one either.
  2. Check this link out on you tube.
  3. The times i have done it. The piece stayed long enough for me to sew it. But if you just want the glue to hold it i don't think it will happen.
  4. They used to put tar on the ropes of sailing ships. I guess it made them last longer.
  5. You can check here she has some free tips and DVD's on dyeing. http://wdstudio.net/foxart/main.htm
  6. Well i won't be buying from Double K Leather. $15.00 shipping for a beveler. To rich for my blood.
  7. Steel all the way. Marble is to brittle. Brass is soft enough to nick up pretty easy. The grain is coarse in oak and wood just doesn't work very well. Or it didn't when i tried some cherry.
  8. The way i see is that your on a private form that is free and open to the public. It's the owners choice as to how they pay for their site. Just like it's your choice to turn your computer, radio, tv off never buy a paper or magazine or to never go outside because of the adds. Their every where and the adds are what pay the bills.
  9. Make your own.
  10. I wrap my things in paper towels then put some bubble wrap over them. If their is space left in the box i put some crumpled news paper in to keep things from sliding around. That has been my way of doing things for close to 15 years and i never have had a problem.
  11. That is funny !!! On the good side at least he found out that she is super jealous before he tied the knot. A couple of times i've heard of the woman taking a bat or hammer to their car and busting out all of the windows and putting major dents in the car or truck. So he may of got off easy....LOL.
  12. I don't have one for sale or for free. But i will tell you how i would make one. Get some paper or poster board and fold it in the middle. Then lay your gun down in the fold, then turn it over on it's side and trace the stock and forearm piece from their own your going to have to measure and add for the barrels and add around 3/4 of a inch at the stock. Patterns aint hard to make they just take a little time and when it's done you have done it all. That's the way i made patterns for the scabbards i have made.
  13. What do you do about the crap that comes to your personal mail box ? Call the post office and ask / tell them to sort it out before it gets to you ?
  14. Their should be a size on the package the needles came in. Then you can call a dealer and ask for a bigger size. If theirs no package the size should be on the needle it's self in real small letters on the upper part of the needle. When you call a dealer tell them what size thread your using and they should be able to help you out.
  15. Tried one of them to and it didn't work very good because you have to tighten both ends. A steel one with a hinge works LOTS better !!
  16. I made one out of wood it worked ok but a steel one is LOTS better.
  17. Sometimes the dye won't cover the sharpie mark. It will cover the mark but you can still see through the black dye. Like you can see a ink mark through black dye.
  18. He may of took the week off. Thursday is a holiday here.
  19. Yes i'm pretty sure it does. I had a problem sorta like yours and like to of never figured out how to thread it and i have several machines and have been using them for 30 years. When i threaded it like in the picture it worked fine. Bob stated on another thread that if the slot was all the way over to one side or the other it needed to be moved to the center. Mine was / is all the way over to the left and it was bear to get the thread through there. Here's that thread post number 6. http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=43802&hl=
  20. I use 8 / 9 ounce for belts and 3 / 4 ounce when i need a new watch band.
  21. Thanks ! The reason i asked was because it doesn't like theirs much to hold on to.
  22. Dumb question maybe, did you use a maul on the stamp looks like it would be hard to do or did you put it a vice to get your impression ?
  23. I've got a clone of something that has the same tension disk set up and i like to never figured out how to get it threaded. When i looked this afternoon the slot is to the left. So i'm going to try what you said Bob and move it to the middle. Bob thanks for telling what needed to be done and thanks DJ for asking. As least two people have been helped maybe more.
  24. You already have headstalls and breast straps in guessing. Measure them for the measurments get some poster board to draw out what ever style you want them to be.
  25. I've made a couple of pouches, but never one for the pipe to fit inside. What i would do is get one of his pipes or buy a cheap one to use for my pattern and i think i would put a gusset in the side to make the pipe fit better. If you don't use a gusset you pouch is going to have to big bigger/ wider longer for the pipe to fit right, i'm thinking. If you buy a cheap pipe you could give it to him as a joke gift then give him pouch.
