  1. If your wearing a helmet i would say go with elastic for sure. heck i'd probely go with it anyway. I remember reading on here that somebody that made mask used some small round round neoprene cord i think it was anyway it stretched. That might work.
  2. That's a fine looking belt !! Give yourself a Gold Star. I like the two black lines on the belt, i never seen that before.
  3. 6.5 mm lift is when you raise the foot by hand. 13 mm lift is when you use the knee lift, if it's not working you don't have it set up right. The end of the arm needs to touch under the machine to raise the foot. Sometimes it takes a little bit of time messing with it to get it adjusted right. Get some 138 thread from Bob at http://www.tolindsewmach.com/ and ask him about the needle size for the 138 thread. He will treat you right.
  4. I think their is a set screw that holds the pulley. If you have that out try spaying some wd 40 on it see if that loosens it up if not may need to get a gear puller to get it off. The error message sounds like something you need to do to the motor to get it running again. Found this when i did a google search on your motor http://www.keysew.com/Webpages/Owners&PartsBooks/OwnersBooks/SQ5000Instructions.pdf . Their is a you tube movie about it to that may or may not help. Hope ya get it figured out quick.
  5. They make a bight orange that can be sewn on to collars, not sure to get it at though. These folks have neon colors, i'm not sure if it's dye or paint though. Email them and ask, they ship quick. http://turtlefeathers.net/text/angelus/neon.html
  6. How thick is what you want to sew total ?
  7. benlilly i hope you kill a bear at the event. A couple of things i would suggest to do from somebody that goes to a lot events to sell is get a card reader from induit or paypal if you have a smart phone to be able to take credit cards. Take 300.00 to make change with a hundred in 5's hundred in 10's and a hundred in 20's. Take your own food and cold drinks, saves you a lot of money.
  8. I've bough quite a bit of suede over the years for saddle seats and chaps. Most of the time it pretty smooth with a light fuzz. I'm guessing the piece they sent you was off of a corner and it was hairy. Their not going to cut in the middle of a hide to get a smooth piece to send out as a sample.
  9. What really gets me is the people that want to use Flat Rate boxes to send a tool or a couple of tools that weight just a few ounces. I just checked the USPS web site sending a package that weights 12 ounces from Key West Fl. to Seattle Wa. cost $6.51 Priority Mail it takes 10 to 12 tools to weight a pound. But their hung up on the small flat rate boxes that cost $8.00 to send 1 tool. I know what your thinking buy more than one tool at a time. I'd love to buy more than one at a time but at $35.00 to $50.00 a tool that's a lot of money out of my pocket at one time and sometimes i only need one tool. I send a lot of packages and i charge $6.00 flat rate and use Priority Mail sometimes it cost a little less than $6.00 sometimes a little more but it all evens out and that's including the bubble wrap.
  10. Truck load of mashed cans ought to do it.
  11. Those company's get a discount because they send out a lot maybe a truck full everyday. In other words they don't pay the everyday price you and me do.
  12. As far as a bobbin winder get a dowel that fits the bobbin cut a piece off and put in a cordless drill stick your bobbin on the dowel and you have a bobbin winder. I do that with some threads where i just have one spool of thread. ad
  13. Osborne punch tubes for the hand punches are threaded and come in size 1 to 6 i think.
  14. Your going to have to spend 50.00 or more for somebody to make you a stamp or get one they already have made. Barry King Tools, Clay Miller Tools, and Jeremiah Wyatt are the only ones i can think of. I have bought from Barry King and Clay Miller both make nice tools.
  15. Call Bob he maybe able to help you out. http://www.tolindsewmach.com/cb227r.html
  16. If your going to line the headstalls and breast straps i would get at least 8 / 9 ounce to 10 / 12 ounce leather and line with 3 / 4 ounce or 5 /6 ounce. Personally i would use 8 /9 ounce for the collars. You will be surprised how hard a little dog can pull if they see something they really want to go after, using 3 / 4 ounce the dog may have the chance to chase when the collar breaks. If you want one of the Douglas awls i would be glad to get one for you and send it. It cost nowhere near 10.00 to mail a awl and i know that for a fact !! I send things to Canada pretty regular. In a couple of days i have a order going to Canada that weights a little over a pound and it's 11.50. Personally i would save for a machine because your going to have a really hard time making any money double stitching a headstall or breast strap hand sewing if your planing on reselling them.
  17. The skirts are made with pockets that the ends of the bars fit into. Then screws and nails keep everything in place.
  18. The tool you have is what i have always used. If it's where can put the end of one handle on your bench and squeeze that will give you more power or you may find some with a longer handle and that would be easier for you i think. If you go looking again take a rivet with you and see if you can cut it before you buy.
  19. The tan part maybe just a light oil finish. I've used the regular ole spirit dye for years and never had a problem with it, you can thin it with denatured alcohol. Not sure it works with oil dye.
  20. Get some poster board make a center line and measure off of that to what ever size you want. Then make patterns for the bottom and corner leather pieces of poster board tape every thing together with latches and hardware and see how things fit. If ever thing looks good cut your canvas and leather.
  21. When leather gets really dry it's done for. No amount of oil or anything else i have seen will bring it back. Had a guy bring a leather halter in the was really dry and he wanted me to oil and get it back in shape. Told him it was a goner but he didn't believe me so i told him to put in a tub of neetsfoot that i used. He came back about a month later and it was the same as when he put in there except it had gotten to a black color from the oil it had soaked up.
  22. I hope you sell lots and that they are able to raise a lot of money for research.
  23. They glued the edges and sewed it while it was flat then folded it over. Not sure what they did on the logo.
  24. Off the top of my head you could build a bench with 2x4 legs that fold up. Drill a hold in the skirt of your bench and run a bolt through both of them then you could fold the legs up sorta. It needs a little more though but that should give you some ideal's on where to start. I started in one side of a 10 by 12 out building so i understand getting creative on what to build and where to put things.
