  1. Please tell me how you colored the diamond. Your colors are outstanding! Joel
  2. Very Very nice rawhide work!! Do you cut your own strings? Joel
  3. Well that's one I have never seen done before. Joel
  4. I took a very small flat bladed screwdriver and sharpened it to match the legs on the diamond spots. Then I measure, punch the holes, and push the spots into the holes, and bend the legs over all by hand. No machine . Takes time, but I find it to be very accurate, at least for me. Joel
  5. Just saw the post , and just downloaded the pictures. Thanks for sharing! I don't really care for the Sheridan style of carving but what the hay.... I might need them someday. So thanks Joel
  6. Thanks for the replies everyone. I forgot about this thread after Bobby hdflame posted his link. That is the place where I got my magnets, and I am happy with them. They are NOT the lease expensive magnets I have ever bought, but they had what I needed and I'm happy with what I got! https://www.magnet4l...dex.php?cPath=1 Thanks again everyone. Joel
  7. Your work is always top notch! Thanks for showing your work and inspiring me, I must add though. You must be working on a project 24-7 or else you are the fastest braider in the world! That's a very nice piece of silver also! Joel
  8. I am in need of magnets to use as cell phone case closures, Can anyone help? Source suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Joel
  9. Does anyone know where I can purchase parts to make a purse like below? Thanks Joel
  10. Beveled top and bottom! Nice even pressure on your strings and buttons. The top bevel effect is almost hard to look at on the computer screen. Very Nice work. You sir are a master! Joel
  11. I received mine a few days ago. It was a fathers day gift from my wife. Yes, she took advantage of the sale. I had already made up my mind to order one anyways. so I would have ordered it even at the original price. It is 'Great' quality, and for some it will be a bit of a learning curve on it's use. When mine arrived, I opened the box, chucked a Chuck Smith flat blade right into it and went to practicing, and found out I have a new favorite swivel knife. My Old Smoothie from Chuck Smith will be used for beading, and my new Tangleboss will be the go to for curves. By the way it does a great straight line if you use a straight edge. I suppose anyone with a steady hand wouldn't have any problems either. Good thing these Tanglebosst knives. I like mine even at the original cost. Joel
  12. From what I see in your photo it looks like you punched the holes with a hole punch. An awl will cut a slot but the slot should close up somewhat after the needle goes through. See if you can get one of the hand sewing books from Tandy. It will show you what I'm trying to explain with instructions, and pictures. Joel
  13. You did a very nice job. As far as the stitching it looks great. To keep the thread tight as you go along I would use a smaller awl than thread. Joel

    Shop Talk

I love the Shop Talk magazine. It always seems to have some new to me info. Plus I feel like an insider in the leather business world with all the info it has about suppliers and business and show activities. Joel
  15. I dont think they are difficult to make. I actually depends whether it is a enlisted or officers saddle. I have already given the internet as source. I even gave them a web site to get the saddles cheaper than I could make them. But I told them I would put out a word here and see what happens. I actually dont have time to make that many saddles, and I actually dont want to make them for personal reasons and the reason Blake states. So that's where it stands. Joel
  16. huuummm, interesting replies. It's amazing what can be said with the sound of silence. Joel
  17. Is anyone interested in making some Mc Clellan saddles for a reenactment group? This group contacted me today, but frankly I am booked up right now. They are looking for the 1872 design, for a group that would be doing parades and such I believe. They need between 5-10 saddles, built as historically accurately as possible. Thanks for looking Joel
  18. For those interested in finding trouble, I present what a cracker ( old school get back!) is. see here--->>>cracker and here.--->>> cracker And I have seen them with "BB"or ' ball bearings' in the laced end. Stay safe. Joel
  19. I think you are correct Spinner. Nice Job PLO1 !! I suspected it was something like that. But with all the brains here I neglected to use my own.
  20. Can anyone here tell me what this type of braiding is called and/or know where I can learn to do it (I don't mean the buttons.) ? ---->> see here. and here -->> Thanks Joel
  21. I offer a spring cleaning and safety inspection. My range of price, (minus any repairs) are $85- $135.00 a saddle. I am in Southern California. A lot of folks in other states think that life is good here and every thing is clean and shiny always. Just look at a typical saddle that came into my shop this spring. I always take before, during and after photos. This is typical for my area. Sometimes lots of wind and fine dust. This saddle only needed a good brushing and saddle soap scrubbing and oiling to go back out. All the leather but the latago was fine. He declined my offer to sell him a new latago. No big deal, he said the feed store sell them cheaper than I do. Not the same quality of leather, but cheaper in price. His choice. My charge for cleaning this saddle was only $90.00. It took about 1 1/2 hrs to do. Now to tell the truth I personally think that anyone who will pay someone else to clean their saddle is lazy and in lack of a little education. But I do a close to complete tear down on upper leathers, and I do look pretty close to see what shape the leather is in. So,, I (in my mind) am actually doing a spring safety inspection for someone, and cleaning the saddle is just a matter of pride to having something leaving my shop in good condition Joel.
  22. ooo waa ooo waaa come on kitty , tell us about the boy from new yark city. Looks very cool cat! So how does a guy way over where you are go about getting that East coast feeling for stuff? Joel
