  1. I got a 5" springfield 1911, and the 5" "operator" 1911, and a commander colt "cocked and locked", and a EMP, and 3" micro 1911, but not yet done with the "officer model" 3.5" Here's a 'somewhat' list.... if it's scratched out, I aint dun with it. $110 per 3 shipped in the US dummy_guns_0108.pdf
  2. Old memories. Back in the day of wall phones, I tooled my first belt. Ugly as ever, I set it to the side, thinking I'll do it again, but save this hideous one for dye practice. Second belt ugly, maybe not AS bad. After about 15 belts, I had one that didn't look quite like the pic it was supposed to look like, but not really so bad. And 12 or 14 dye practice sessions on the others, I was getting the hang of that (or so I thought). So I dyed my first "i can live with this one" belt, and really wasnt' so bad. Dip in oil as suggested... and #15 goes in the trash .... But yea, seriously, a double shoulder from The Leather Factory (before it was "tandy leather factory", though Tandy may have already owned it, don't know) cut me about 15 er 18 belts - 50-60" long - of good clean, firm leather. Ah... those were the days ...
  3. Agreed. I remember the days when you ordered hides without seeing anything but a number in an actual catalog, and it showed up, 85% of the hide useable. Now, tellnig that to the new guys is like trying to tell a kid there was a time when we found ourselves nowhere near a phone ...
  4. SHOOOT... had to look at the pic. I thought all along here was a SHADOW. Yeah, definitely not a good look. Other hand, if it's "firmness" the desired outcome, maybe the Wickett-Craig leather is the issue. Good LOOKING stuff, but nowhere near as firm as HO.
  5. I don't mind the look ya got there. But I don't dip. Reason being is not the LOOK but the fact that acrylic is a SEALER, and prevents the entry of conditioners. It's good that a holster goes out the door looking nice - but I want it to STILL look and work good next year. And the year after that. At some point, how often depending on use and atmospheric conditions where it's located, leather is going to need some rejuve one sort or another, and I don't want to have to STRIP a finish so I can use a conditioner.
  6. I'm not aware of any sizing that say "fits my nephew", but a good rule (and VERY basic) might be to make the center hole 2" bigger than the stated clothing size. Got a 34 jeans - make the middle hole 36" Again, I say BASIC because the type of material in the clothing matters. Thickness of the leather you're using matters. Patty Loveless matters. Oh, wait.. strike that .. I was thinkin' bout sumthin else If you want the belts to fit RUIN the surprise. Send them a strap of leather the thickness of the belt leather you're using. Have them run it through the loops, mark across the top with a pen or pencil. Lay it out and measure between teh lines, and your belt WILL be the right size. All of that may not be necessary for a quick, solid color belt, but if Im taking the time to tool it, I'm taking the time to fit it (note if you gain weight after the belt is made, that's on you).
  7. Nothing? Nobody? Maybe nobody needs THOSE models? Everybody wanna be a bodybuilder, but nobody wanna lift that heavy weight.
  8. Well, hopefully will be. Should be close to 90 or 100 guns left around here.
  9. After talking about it for a couple YEARS, we are getting OUT of holsters. Still in leather, but out of "production" holsters. Enough about that - result is we are going to be selling a number of holster molds. I have a list somewhere - we'll be selling all but those last few we have need of at the moment. More you buy the more you save. I'll make a complete list available here soon. Meanwhile, there are 7 listed currently on cutesy at $40 ... but I'd take $200 for ALL 7, that's including the priority shipping in teh US. Those shown over there are Rings "blue guns", but we also have some Duncans aluminum, some multi-molds, and some Bunkhouse Tools (revolvers, mostly). Need a specific model? -- send message and I'll try to check them fairly frequently. Beretta PX4 Storm .45 Keltec Ruger SR9 Sig 229 Sig 230 Sig 239 Sig 250 Comp
  10. Just what I was thinking. I offered to make it tapered or a ranger, but this lady wanted 'original'. The original wasn't lined or stitched, but she did allow that
  11. Nowhere near Houston, .... but good to see ya in the leather.
  12. Looks pretty good, I think. Those little "boogers" in teh stitching are only that loud because of the contrasting stitch color. Use a brown thread and that's a LOT less conspicuous.
  13. Nope - machine stitch with an LR point needle, gives that [goofy] angled stitch look. I don't care for it much, but... she thought it was a bit more "girly" than the straight stitch the husband got (his thread was a size heavier, too, but then the belt was wider).
  14. Not a hugely custom ordeal going on here, but I thought some ya might wanna see this very cool old buckle set. Made replacement belt to suit the buckle set. They said just "pitch" the old leather, but turns out I'm not too good at "pitching" what was a gift from husband to wife "back when"... they'll need to throw it out themselves if they don't want to keep it This is the "hers" version - "his" got shipped out due to we needed the space. Maybe they'll send us a pic of the two matching belts once they have the second one. Still need to hit the edges and apply some finish ...
  15. Not much over there - just a few times we put the facts up in the midst of a lot of hype about very simple things. Watching U-tube a guy could get the idea that a leather worker "invented" that "sunburst" paint scheme and that people aren't capable of drawing a rectangle by themselves And there's always another (and another, and another) video about "designing" or "laying out" a holster. Usually they contain about 1/3 of the info that Jim S put in a simple pdf here 10 years ago .. I must have clicked something in that album of pics so that you can't comment... don't konw what it was, but I see none of those photos have a place to comment. No matter.
  16. I havent' seen these up close and personal, but if I was looking for bevelers I'd give these a try. Price isn't bad comparatively, and the impressions look good. Nice to have a SET whre the face is all the same... narrow ones for tight turns, the wider ones for broad lines and borders will save a lot of time over using teh small ones - and the textures will MATCH https://www.ebay.com/itm/Craft-Japan-Checkered-Beveler-Stamps-4-Piece-Set-Leather-Stamping-Tools/391858490975?hash=item5b3c960e5f:g:i0cAAOSwlshetqns
  17. No takers? Okay, well -- maybe they'll be good practice for some scouts or something .... not sure who does that around here
  18. I was referring more to the outside diameter of the bunkhouse rolls, not the bore size. I don't own the machine shown, so if somebody does and says it'll fit, then there you have it.
  19. After seeing 100+ views on our holster pic in a day, seemed strange nobody commented .. like not even 'hey you suck' Now I see that there IS NO PLACE to comment on that entire album. HOW LONG has it been like that ?@!
  20. From the album: Odds
