Much like the experience of others who have posted to this thread, I've used both extra-virgin olive oil and pure neatsfoot oil over the years. I have no problem whatsoever with neatsfoot oil, but find that EVOO is lighter and seems to penetrate easier -- meaning I have to apply less. I also notice that EVOO darkens leather less than neatsfoot oil. I've owned, used and otherwise followed leather items treated with EVOO over the past seven years, and I've never seen any problems (rancidity or other). I think either one works fine, and the selection of which to use is simply personal preference.

Heath, I'm no saddle expert, but I'm a big fan of quality working gear, and that's a beautiful saddle to my eyes! Welcome to LW.net! Regards, -Alex

Thanks for sharing this video, Jo. Very interesting... I learned a lot in only 10 minutes! I'll bet the in-person tour was even better. -

Congratulations! That's a big accomplishment. -
Looks really great to me. Nicely carved pattern, with your usual outstanding coloring job. Kudos!

I agree totally. That's a great belt... Wear it with pride! By the way Scotty, I wouldn't be so convinced that your belt isn't of higher quality than the $130 version. Lots of leatherwork is now sourced from China... Big price tags for relatively mediocre quality.

More Threepersons' Style Holsters

Very classy work. Thanks for sharing these pics! -
Even swords and guns are allowed in checked baggage. http://www.tsa.gov/t...ited-items.shtm I'd pack this stuff well (like in between layers of clothes in a suitcase), since checked baggage is often roughly handled... But I'd go checked baggage all the way, and forget about trying to explain your carry-on contents to airport security.

Clay, your best bet is to visit the web site of the airline you plan to fly to understand any restrictions (not only tools, but liquids, etc). Most of these sites spell these security restrictions out in great detail. Regardless, I think you'll be fine with your tools -- even the sharp ones -- if you check your toolbox. Obviously, anything that's carry-on is subject to much greater scrutiny. Good luck and enjoy the trip! -Alex

Wow. That's some nice work.

Outstanding. BTW, I've tried knifemaking once or twice... Always with disasterous results... Anyway, I have much respect for those of you who do it well!

Like Noah, I've heard it's some of the best stuff out there for weatherproofing leather. But I haven't had a chance to purchase or use any yet. Please let us know how you like it. -
Beautiful work!

Feeble Attempt At A Wallet

Rob, I'd hardly call that a feeble attempt... It looks pretty nice to me! Keep up the good work! -
Thanks for letting us know! I just called my local store and asked that they send me a copy.

Viva Las Vegas!

Fantastic use of color. The red frogskin really makes the central elements pop, and the other colors are very complementary. Nice! -
Monica, your holsters look great, so whatever dye you're using... It's working! But, yes... The older formulation of black was based on blue dye. If it didn't soak in really good, the result was patches of midnight blue. Not very attractive. The new dye appears to have yellow as its base color, and it's thicker. Works better, IMO.

Very similarly. Two light coats of Satin Shene. I might add that some of the Eco-Flo colors have been reformulated since they were introduced in June '07, and I think black and blue were two of those colors. Maybe the early versions were problematic?
