PORTER SADDLE AUTHENTICATION
Northmount replied to BNEWTONP's topic in Saddle Identification, Restoration & Repair

Pictures might help us see what the problem is. Are they tearing along your stitch line or just everywhere? Some lambskin is really soft. I snagged my jacket sleeve on the door handle one day and had a tear. Was able to glue a patch in so it was barely noticeable. Had to know where it was to see it. If it is tearing along the seam, take longer stitch length. You can also use iron on interfacing to reinforce it.

Moved your post to Leather Sewing Machines. I think you'll have better luck here.

Welcome to Leatherworker.net. Please post in English (the standard for this site). You may post in both languages. I have used Google Translate to translate your post and pasted it here. I am from Qingdao City, Shandong Province, China. I am a fan of handmade leather products and antique leather machinery. I have a singer 17-1, a singer 34kvs5 and a Fortuna v50s. Like to refurbish and repair machines. I want to find singer 119-2, anyone who owns this machine can contact me, thank you!

@BabutuHabiba You should start a new thread in the section "Leather Sewing Machines". This thread is in the Marketplace area and should have been archived long ago (2014) . I am locking this thread and archiving it now.

Please post your photos here. 3rd party hosting often results in photos disappearing due to hosts changing policies, or users moving, deleting, etc. If your photo are too large, reduce the file size. There are lots of suggestions as to how you can reduce file sizes here. 800x600 pixels is adequate for most. 1024x768 is a bit better. Either of these will allow you to post many photos. It is also a favour to users on the fringes of good internet access. They don't have to wait an hour or so for a couple large photos to download before they can view the post. Please refer to this thread to find several pieces of software or web based utilities to help you.

Consew 206rb tension problems
Northmount replied to LisaGingerbreadJane's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
I'd take the bobbin case out and make sure there is no thread trapped in it. Also examine the hook basket and make sure there isn't any threads trapped in or under it. You do know there are 2 screws on the bobbin case, 1 for tension, the other to hold the end of the curved tension plate to the basket. If you mix them up, and tighten the tension screw instead, you will have loads of bottom tension. Can you easily pull the bobbin thread through the the tension spring with the bobbin and bobbin case in your hand? If not, the problem is right there in you hand. If easy to pull, it's not the tension adjustment. @Wizcrafts should be along soon to give you much better help than I can. -
Post your photos here. You will probably need to reduce the file sizes. 800x600 pixels is adequate, 1024x768 is good too. Can load lots of photos if you reduce to these sizes. See this for suggestions on how to reduce the file sizes.

Consew 206rb tension problems

Have you changed needle or thread size or leather thickness or leather temper? Harder thicker leather needs a larger hole to get the thread to pull up. Try increasing the needle size. -
Amazon shoe patcher machine frustrations

Amazon shoe patcher machine frustrations

@Loudcherokee I have copied your photos into your posts. Please do not use 3rd party photo hosting services for photos. It's okay for videos as there is no way to get them into LW considering their size. 3rd party hosted photos disappear when the host changes policies, goes out of business, or otherwise. They also disappear when the originator changes their location, deletes them, etc. When this happens, the integrity of the thread is lost for all the members that come along later. You will find lots of examples of this if you browse other postings here. You can reduce file sizes if necessary to meet the size requirements. These files were small enough that there was no problem uploading to LW. @Loudcherokee Did you notice kgg's comment? If not you are in for a lot more trouble. -
Always turn over by hand after a fix, not under power! Next time!

You want it tight, compress the leather somewhat.

Looking for identification of leather punch
Northmount replied to AninaHaesen's topic in Leather History
Maybe you can rub some chalk across the mark and wipe the surface off so we can see what the mark is. Black on black is hard to discern. -
Check out Amazon.com, lots to choose from, you can see different layouts and sizes. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=self+healing+mat&ref=nb_sb_noss_1

@Adverse You will have to ask @Johanna to change your display name.

Please post your photos here. 3rd party hosted photos have a tendency to disappear, destroying the integrity of the thread. Hosting companies change policies, disappear, people move their photos, delete them, change access, etc. There are quite a number of posts that no longer provide the information they were intended to.
-
This is for a computer, versus a phone or other device as I'm not sure it displays the same. Go to the top right corner to where your display name is "Adverse" click on it and click on account settings. You should see your display name with a prompt to change. I'm assuming that this works for all members, not just moderators.

Looking for identification of leather punch

Metric - mm diameter, top 10 mm, bottom 19 mm -
I have used bonded polyester fabric on the insides of some wallets to get the thickness down. The stuff I have has a simulated grain on one side and fabric surface on the other. It won't last as long as leather for every day back pocket use. Just noticed the very small card wallet is starting to flack apart in the interior fold, so will have to take a look at exactly what is happening to it. Where it is flat and doesn't flex, it is nearly like new and still looks good - around 10 years old. So maybe it is fine for none flex applications where you have to reduce the thickness due to the number of layers. The stuff came from Tandy and hasn't been stocked for several years.

This is a great idea Dwight. I'm sure that there are many here that appreciate this idea.
