  1. Tom G When I ordered this maul the website gave a two week time line before shipping bit I agree, good things take time. I have also heard good things about Ed Stiles which is why I contacted him for the maul, I have heard he is the best. That being said, all I want is a response to the e-mails I have sent, surely two minutes of time is not to much to ask. I understand this may be his part time thing but his delay is affecting my full time business. Customer service takes only a few minutes but will last forever. Ignoring your responsibilities as a business person is inexcusable.
  2. Hoping someone can assist me with contact information for Ed Stiles and Leatherburnishers.com. I have sent several e-mails to the website site and have not received a response. This is regarding a maul I ordered November 17 and was told by Mr. Stiles on December 17, "it should ship soon." Since then I have heard nothing and of course everything is paid on my end. At this point I believe certified correspondence to show proof of attempting to resolve this matter are in order. It is disappointing to spend $120. for an Ed Stiles/leatherburnisher maul then have to spend an additional $75. to replace your old one cause you can no longer wait for Ed Stiles/leatherburnishers to fulfill their promise. I appreciate any help that is provided.
  3. Welcome to the best leather site on the internet IMHO. The pic of your work looks good and everyone here is willing to help and educate. I been doing leather for 35 years when I found this site and have learned so much from it. The cost saving tips I have gained from it more than pay for the contribution. Anyway get a cup of coffee, pull up a chair and learn from some of the best out there, not me of course but they are out there.
  4. Tinker Tailor I agree with everything you said, everyone has a life outside of the job, be it part or full time. One can surely affect the other and things can happen but in this age of technology there is no excuse for not responding to a customer inquiry. I would rather hear excuses, apologies or just a good cussing than to not hear anything at all.
  5. I do not enjoy fronting out a business but when they refuse to reply to a simple e-mail, what can they expect. . I have read here how great Leather Burnisher tools are and when I received a $100. gift certificate for my birthday I contacted them for a maul, this was October 23, 2015. At that time their website indicated a two week lead time for orders. Ed was quick to get back with me and over the next few days we worked out the final details of what I wanted. On November 11, I received and e-mail that he had started on the maul. On November 17, I approved the final design and submitted my final payment via Paypal for the extras I had added in addition to the gift certificate they already had. December 17, 2015 I e-mailed them inquiring about the maul and was told it was at the engravers and should be shipped soon. January 17, 2016 I e-mailed them inquiring about the maul and when I could expect delivery and have receive no response. Now I read on their web site that his full time job is taking away from his time with Leather Burnishers, basically not filling orders. There was nothing on the site about part time work when I ordered the maul, I understood I was dealing with a full time business but there is no excuse for failing or refusing to reply to an e-mail inquiring about an order. Of course they have been paid in advance so why worry about it. As a business owner (custom leather, full time) I know how important customer service is and the next time I am shopping for tools I will remember the customer service I received from them. I want them to know there is one PO'd customer out here and give a heads up to others. Thanks for letting me vent.
  6. Great idea and great timing, headed to Harbor Freight today. Thanks.
  7. Seems like I am in good company. I contacted Ed in late October to order a maul after my daughter gave me a gift certificate for one. Note to self, never mention big priced items around birthday time. We finalized the order November 17, 2015 and the final payment for some extras I added was sent immediately. Their website at that time stated a two week lead time ( it is now eight weeks) which I understood and accepted. December 17, 2015 I contacted Leather Burnishers via e-mail inquiring about the status of the maul and was informed the plate was being laser engraved and should be sent soon. January 20, 2016 I sent an e-mail again inquiring about the status of my maul and wanting a date of when to expect it. As of today I have heard nothing from them. Does anyone know what is going on with them, I understand good things take time but two months to receive a maul seems a extreme to me, especially when I note others have received items from other suppliers within days. Again I know quality takes time but the lack of customer service ( a simple response to an e-mail) I do not understand. As a custom leather business owner I find good customer service handles a wait time every time. Guess I will keep this in mind the next time I am looking for tools. Anyway, I appreciate the chance to vent.
  8. Heavens, if I only lived closer and had won the lottery. Anyway, would be interested in the holster patterns, what do you have? PM a list, please. Thanks
  9. PM sent for future consideration.
  10. Welcome from a next door Hoosier.
  11. Welcome Digger Joe: You have found the best leather site on the internet in my honest opinion, people here are more than willing to help, share and educate. Can't begin to name all the time and money I have saved due to good people here. Sounds like you have a plan and are moving toward the goal of a machine. Good luck with your work, post some of it soon. Pounder
  12. Complaining to Tandy Corporate is a waste of time, all they do is forward it to the manager of the store which is the problem. Seems like they could care less about customer satisfaction any longer.
  13. Welcome to the best leather site on the internet IMHO. Post some pictures of your work.
  14. I could not agree with you more, the knowledge, not to mention the cost saving tips I have gleaned from the experts has more than paid for the contribution to this site. Everybody is more than willing to help and share, great place to be for a leather worker.
  15. Camano Please let me jump in here before you close the door on this generous offer. crookedfingerleather@gmail.com Pounder
  16. For someone who does an occasional holster (would like to do more) Camano Ridge suggestions works great for me. I cannot justify the purchase of a dummy gun at this time so I build around the actual gun, not real comfortable keeping a customers weapon and sometimes they are not as comfortable as well. The ability to obtain a dummy gun for two way postage is great and I could replace a dummy gun a lot quicker than I could a regular gun if, heaven forbid, any damage did occur. Might be nice if there was a list of generous makers who were willing to help the less fortunate.
  17. The best one is Leather Crafters and Saddlers Journal, IMHO.
  18. In my case, it is take what the customer needs and run with it. As stated talents transfer from one area to another and although a niche is nice to have until you get it there will be bills to pay. Being a one person shop means advertising and the best is word of mouth, seems to me you can't get that turing people away becausae they don't meet your "niche". Hopefully someday you can find that niche and make a nice earning from it but I have found at least in the beginning (3 years in business) you take what you can get and love every minute of it.
