David ,when i first started doing leather work,i ,like you wanted the Smothe rounded ends on belts & wrist bands. the strap ends punches were expensive and they still are. go to the Hardware Store and Buy yourself one each of all size of flat Washers. then you have a Template of what you will need to cut the strap ends. then use an Exacto Knife or a Round Knife to cut with.

How to measure bag/purse lining
Luke Hatley replied to Regis's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Ray....Regis....Tom for me i cut the liner about 1/4" smaller on the front & back piece , leave the center the same size as the outside. now for the top seam let top piece extend about 1" taller . then you can fold it down on the inside and top stich it to the outside pieces of the bag.good luck. -
Regis, i have found out that sometimes what we want to do ,the Machines just want coperate.....( thin leather= small thread & needle). and it goes up from there. hopefully i was able to help somewhat.

the leather in the photos look very thin. try sewing some 4-8oz leather. if the leather is thin and it is what i think is it it will not sew.

REGIS.... is the foot and needle tight?. are the feed dogs tight ? ok... are you holding the loose ends of the threads before you start sewing ? put a new needle in.......... wished i knew more to tell you. hopefully Art will be here soon. re- thread it with #69 size thread, then see what happens.
