Marking Faux Leather Top For Sewing Pockets
electrathon replied to Yanni's topic in How Do I Do That?
I have had good luck with a silver pen or silver sharpie to mark things that the lines otherwise disappear on. -
Shoe making tool. Not sure of the name.
-
You likely took it in video, not pic mode. Trash the one you have and retake it making sure the phone is not now in video, but pic mode. You can not convert the one you already took.

Ray, Turn on your camera and just above the round button that takes pictures it will likely have the word video lit up. To the right is the word photo, click on it.

2015 Keep Making Stuff Monthly Challenge

This is a good idea. -
Letterpress printing type. Stelmaker has an article about it.
-
Old school lettered printing type. The only issue is you need to push it in and not pound it in, it is lead. Perfect printing on leather every time.

Where To Buy Leather For Shoe Making?
electrathon replied to miggo's topic in Shoes, Boots, Sandals and Moccassins
Bill Shannor at Bonnie and Wills. He knows a lot and spent many years in both custom shoes and factory shoe manufacture. -
h Hard to go wrong... Corsets good. Pretty girls good. Corsets on pretty girls, awesome.

I would suggest starting with stainless bolts.

Think of it this way, you can cut through cheese with a wire. You can cut through leather with thread. You were pulling too tight. Also, the only issue using a different punch/chisel will creat is a different stitch pattern. A different angle on the punch will not magically cut leather where the punch did not cut.

I don't have an answer, but leather is from a dead cow, the pores no longer open and close ( do cows even have pores?).

Building A New Shop Please Help With Ideas...
electrathon replied to Jaboyd2u's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
You can buy a granite top with the front and one side polished for about $100. Build a table out of a solid core door, glue the granite to it and you will have a great work table. -
Flower Punch
electrathon replied to cercyonis's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
While I can't say that I would carry it (or any purse, LOL). I really like it. Nice design. -
I either dip dye things or apply the dye with a piece of sheepskin. I almost always need to dilute it or it will be way dark. Wear gloves.
-
dilute it with alcohol

Wallet
electrathon replied to Milton Penflick's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Not the inside of the leather, the inside of the wallet. I see where one of the threads ended on the outside. End both of them on the inside. -

If you pull your threads to the inside before you end/burn them you will get a better finish look. -
Oregon leather in Portland has them
-
Think of it as a crochet hook. For reaching through a hole and pulling back a thread.

Bob Beard "can" tool. One of my favorite tools now.

Beginner Wondering If Round Head Knife For Skiving Or Cutting?
electrathon replied to naz's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
A round knife works well for both cutting and skiving. -
use a sharpie

I use either paraffin or saddle soap. Usually paraffin. Anything what lubes/conditions the lace will work. You do not want friction wearing the lace as you pull it through. I often have to pull the needle with pliers since my holes are smaller than the needle/lace. The trick to nice looking lace is to crowd it in, and consistency.
