Gotcha, That makes sense. Thanks for the tips. Certain craftaids, I feel never go out of style. A lot of them are dated and are out of style. One day I would like to beable to draw my own designs. I am going to be dating myself now, but back in 1975 I drew a mural on poster board of all the Disney characters and my dad set it to the Disney studios we got a reply back in about a month saying to send them another drawing after I was ready to graduate high school. I was so happy I was going to be a cartoonist, well I found out about girls and got side tracked lol. but anyway drawing leather design is not easy. If it were everyone would be doing it, but I am going to take a stab it Chris

You were right. Gick decided to put more focus on the leather end of the business and bought out Pauly to bring in leather carving expert Joey Smith as a partner and an instructor. Their classes brought a lot of attention to leathercraft, catching the attention of leathercrafters such as Al Shelton, as well as artist and inventor Lou Roth. After innovating a plastic engraving sheet to help apply patterns on to leather to expedite teaching, Roth, Gick, Smith, Al Stohlman and Dick McGahen started a company to manufacture these new “Craftaids” through the Craftool Company.

I like that you grooved leather to sink the thread. Overall, great job -
Reminds me of Wonder Woman. Nicely done

Yes, working on it now. I changed the veiner and camo stamping a bit, bit for the more part I stay true to form. The original carver for the craftaid was a person named Joey. I wish I knew a little more about him. Thank for the kind words. Chris

Hard to believe this craftaid is 67 years old.

Tri-Fold Wallet
sinpac replied to Carnivore's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
I made one of those from the same template. Pretty decent design. The only thing I noticed was the T-slot template on the curved pocket was cut on a 90 degree which leaves a small gap going into the other pocket. all you need to do is cut the T-slot to the same curve. I showed my in the patterns section. As far as your wallet nicely done. Chris -

Looks like I forgot 3 mulefoot spots, Dang it! -
So I bought this last week and I was not digging the table. The pedals were to high and I could lower the table because of the cross brace sit right below the servo. I dug out an old table that I squirreled away and mounted the table on it. This is not a complaint post, it's more of a show and tell post. Chris

I just use a Osborne haft and awl. First I sand off all the lacquer or what ever the coating is. Then put two coats of boiled linseed oil on it. Smooth as a baby's bottom. The awl I kiss it off and polish it. Ready to go.

Thank you all. That was the main reason I got it dikman. I make different things at different thickness's. I have the roller guide on order now and needles for 138 and 207 thread. I doubt I will use 138 on it. My other machine can continue running that. I seen that have a hand controller for the folks who may be having problem with their legs. way to reach out across the board to make it user friendly for all.

Well after spending the year cutting grass, raking leaves, trimming bushes, shoveling snow and my little paper route, I was finally able to save up for my new sewing machine. I have two other machines a Consew 225 and a Singer 211g155. Both of these do a great job to a point. So because of the great things I have heard about them here, I bought one. I would like to give a shout out to Ed of Indianapolis Sewing Machine Co. for getting me hooked up. He put it together and set it up. Took it for a test drive. The machine is a beast. Chris

Has anyone ever made a crowner out of a camouflage before? If so how did it turn out? Chris

The Strap cutter The leather works prod. co. Stockton, CA. or and of the ones I have pictured. Mind you, the wooden strap cutter has a disposable blade that you can change up when dull and the blade is thin. Making strap cutting a breeze. The one I pictured they are a pistol grip giving you a great control. They also have a removable blade. Unlike the disposable blade on the the wooden you will have to sharpen the ones on the pistol grip type.

John Wayne, Eldorado Holster
sinpac replied to Forester's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Nicely done. I did one a few years back for my Dad. El Dorado/Virginian. I carved the Red River D on the holster loop and placed the bullet loop like the Virginian's. I was a fun project. I wasn't all the way done at this point, but close. -
I plan on starting this after all the holiday stuff calms down. I will certainly share what I come up with.
