  1. Love your border, the tooling with the lacing. Done superbly (did I spell that correctly)?
  2. Very nice, what a great wedding gift. I'll leave the dyeing to you. Dyeing that far into a project, scares the bejeezers out of me everytime. The thought of something not going right after all that work. Whew....I always cringe. Good luck, your friends will love it.
  3. Very nicely done!
  4. Nice set up Chief, I;; post mine, when I have time to get a few pics.
  5. Nice job! Did you use a beader blade for your inside line (between the meander and the floral work)?
  6. Love the sewing for detail, looks great!
  7. I have the same issue with my wife. She handles all business stuff, we have two homebase businesses. But, doesn't know too much about the technical stuff with leatherwork, (what tools do what, etc.) But, what drives me nuts is when I find my tools around the place (out of place) because she decided a particular tools would work great for X,Y,Z. Like using leaather shears to cut card board, etc. Oh My...But, I love her, so I just cringe and keep my mouth shut, then just remind her the cost of leather shears, (or whatever tool) versus the proper tool for what she needs.
  8. supersheen will resist stains and antiques, but not dyes.
  9. I would dampen the leather and then rub out the scratches with a modeling spoon. (oops, I should ask, are we talking veggie tanned leather?)
  10. Looks good, could you show a pic of the inside?
  11. I personally love having a fid for lacing, I don't agree that a modeling spoon works just as well. but thats just my opinion.
  12. Great looking holsters!
  13. Thanks, I'll look into it.
  14. I am wondering if anyone know of any end pieces that could perhaps be purchased at Tandy, that could attach to the ends to make this a beacelet? Any help would be appreciated.
  15. Nice clean carving. Great idea too!
  16. Looks great!
  17. I usually carve my letters, but, I've seen many posts on here about this very question, with clever ideas. Here are a couple that might help. http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=36872&hl=%2Bstamping+%2Bletters http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=36474&hl=%2Bstamping+%2Bletters
  18. I have a pretty eclectic professional background. I did close-up magic professionally for many years, when I was young, but couldn't justify the travel after my daughter was born. Worked a few years as an aircraft fuel operator. I then started working as a pfofessional photographer after a friend taught me the craft. Then I went to college, got an A.A.S. in Criminal Justice. Became a police officer in a small town in Colorado after living in Los Angeles and Seattle most of mylife until then, 1995/ While a cop, I went back to school, finished a B.S. in Bus Management, then started a M.A. in Psych. I got promoted to detective for a few years. After several years in law enforcement, I wanted to use my Psych stuff more, so I became a counselor at a Juvenile Prison, counseling S.O.'s I also opened a wedding photog business while working at the prison. When that got really busy, I left the prison on did wedding photog professionally for a few years. During that time, my health went down hill, I can no longer work. So, my wife works and I supplement making leather goods.
  19. If you were tp use veggie tanned (2-3 oz leather) it might be thin enough, but then if you wet it and then heat it in your oven on its lowest setting, the leather will harden and become very firm (they used to make armor that way. Look up "CUIR BOUILLI." Don't know if you can machne sew 2 oz. leather or not, I only hand stitch. But, I've thought of using this technique to make a strong biker type corset in the past, but haven't actually tried it. But, This is just what came to mind when I read your post. Hope it helps at least come up with some ideas/
