  1. Bob, just looking at it compared to my 105 it looks where mine is, but the needle could be a little lower. If that bracket does not move with the bolt loosened, then I doubt that it moved before. Bert.
  2. I have had mixed results buying from China, whether it's direct or through ebay. I have needle plates that are as good as OEM and a couple that bent as soon as I tried to sew anything a bit heavy, but I have had nothing that totally failed. I have purchased items from dealers on ebay that where not as good as direct purchased at many times the price, it is a little bit of a lottery. I only buy some items from known good dealers here in Australia as I know I will get only the best quality. Remember you only get what you pay for. Bert.
  3. The hook looks okay, I would adjust the needle bar, but I would check the hook is catching the thread cleanly before I adjust anything. Put some thread in it and your needle plate on first. Bert.
  4. I have not seen a 31K48 manual, but I have parts manual for it and a basic 31K manual. The parts manual is to large to post here, please PM me. I think the 31K20 is in the same class. Bert. 31-20 Manual.pdf
  5. I think you have received some very good advice from the posts above, the bottom line is there is no short cuts to your question, you need to work out what will work for you, for your customers in your area and the type of product you need to make will be dictated by the above advice. Please don't feel no one wants to help you, but you need to help your self by making some things and seeing how they sell and how they are received by your customers, they will tell you real quick if it's not what they want. Put feelers out and talk to them. Bert..
  6. Looks like you should have gotten it from Bob, he fixes them before he delivers them. I would put the sellers name up here so others will know not to buy from them.................... Bert.
  7. I have a 16K113, which I setup to use 135x17 needles, I also have a couple Singer 31's, which are also are setup to use 135x17 needles. I do wish people would use the correct screwdriver for the screws in the needle bars, one looked like they tried to use a hammer, unbelievable. I now looking at change my other machines needle bars to use them, much simpler only needing to use one type of needle instead of the two or three I use now. Bert.
  8. Sadly what we know as a workshop manual for most machine is the Holy Grail, Juki is about the only manufacturer that has a manual that what I know as a Manual. Singer has only Parts or in some cases Instruction Manuals. If you every find any Singer Workshop Manual, let know as I would love to have one of them. Bert.
  9. If I change my thread/needle size, I adjust my tensions to suit. On some of my machines I have a Bobbin Case setup for one size thread, if I change thread and needle size then I change cases and sew a piece of scrap to set the tensions again. When you changed your needle did you put the needle in correctly, it only needs to by off a little and the hook will not catch it. I double check all changes, if I don't I know I'll muck something up. Bert.
  10. Nice, I love the old machines, if you want the manuals for it, PM me. Bert
  11. I have an Adler 105 that looks nearly identical and I purchased a needle clamp, feed dog, presser foot and needle plate from Aliexpress. they are list to fit GA5-1 sewing machine. There prices are quiet good compare to some others on the net or ebay. https://www.aliexpress.com/af/GA5%252d1.html?d=y&origin=n&SearchText=GA5-1&catId=0&initiative_id=SB_20200505065955 Bert.
  12. At a guess I would say System 328. Fabric 214x1 or DDX1 Leather 214x2 or DDX2 Bert.
  13. I have a Juki machine and as you say Gregg, Oranges to Oranges and Apples to Apples and once you own a Juki you will always buy another over a Chinese copy. There is nothing wrong with the Chinese machine, but it is not in the same class as the Juki. I do not own a Chinese machine, any more, but I also have several Singer and an Adler machines, from my point of view I know the difference from experience not from what I have read or been told. I have not spoke to Gregg and I don't plan buying from him in the future, as the P&P to Australia id to high, I know what he is saying to be fact. Bert.
  14. Sam, this post is over 4 years old, I think you would be better to start a new post, rather then try to use something this old. Bert. PS. Did you get your manuals?
  15. May be you could get lucky and find a fresh Roo on the side of the road with a hole in it's head and tan it's hide? Bert.
  16. Try this, http://www.dixiesewing.com/MANUALS/SINGERSERVICE/42 CLASS-Inst.pdf and http://www.dixiesewing.com/MANUALS/SINGERPARTS2/42-5.pdf Bert.
  17. I think this is a good Post, a lot of people are giving good information and although we all have our own opinions and ideas, to me this is great for anyone looking for ideas on what they need. Hopefully this post can live long enough to have all this information in one place. I just wish I found this site before I made a few of the mistakes that I have made. My list looks like this, Singer 132K6 for a Heavy Flat Bed Machine Adler 105 for a Heavy Cylinder Arm Machine Singer 31K47 for Medium Flat Bed Machine Singer 31K20 with Roller foot Singer 29K58 Patching Juki 555-5 for Fabric sewing and very light Leather and of course an Overlocker or two. Bert.
  18. I have both the 132K6 and 31K47 and to me the 31K47 is a baby 132K6. I read the same article about the 15-28, so I assume it is the same as the 31K47 and 132K6. They both sew what you can get under the feet and the only trouble I have had is when I get to a thick seem, but I borrowed a plastic device to put under the feet and have no more problems doing thick seems. Wiz said he likes his 42-5 over the 132K6 and Wiz has been around these machine a lot longer then I have, I have not used or seen a live 42-5 in the flesh. Bert.
  19. I have used it on fabric to fabric, fabric to leather and leather to leather, any where I need adhesion before sewing. I have also used it in many other applications around the house and on our cars. Here is some information on the roll I have. Bert. 1163CW-Ver1.pdf
  20. I have a roll of tape from Venture Tape and I think it must have been 3 foot wide before people stated cutting bits off it. I use it for most double side applications. Bert.
  21. HS, sadly it will take a lot longer, I brought some screws from a member here and they have been sitting in Sydney since the 18-04-2020 and I got some other parts from China been in Sydney since March, Australia Post running in circles. Bert.
  22. dikman is right, they are not a true walking foot, but they call them a "Kick" foot, I have a 31K47 and a 132K6 and they both use the same action. As the dog moves the Kick for moves with it, then when the inner foot foot holds the material while the needle penetrates it and the feed dog returns to start the movement again. I use a 1480 R.P.M. motor with a 60mm pulley, but I dropped it back to a 50 mm pulley as I was struggling a little after I got out of hospital last year. I call it walking speed. I would not pay $375.00 for a Ho Hsing motor, you need to come and see me. Bert.
  23. Gee, $2500.00, I'd sell mine for that, well maybe? Bert.
  24. Can I join you HS, the weather cold and wet (thank God) over here, I'll bring the snags and slaw. Your right about the 132K6, I like it, it sews nearly anything I can get under the feet, but I have a cylinder arm for the jobs that need it and they both use system 328 needles, so yes I do watch my fingers. Bert.
  25. I see a small problem with that list, I think most will have their own opinion from their style of work and you will end up with a list a mile long, let alone whether you like Singer or Pfaff or maybe Juki. I have been looking for a list like this for years, I may just have one shortly. Bert.
