Making N-95 type masks (sharing pattern to leather workers)
Bert51 replied to hvxsilverstar's topic in How Do I Do That?
I love mikesc post, even though I had to re-read a couple sections to get my thick head around them, but I now understand more about this Virus then I did before. So to me this post was the best I have read since it all started. If you are like me and some of the words I did not understand I used Google, but as I said before I am now more informed then I was and to that I say Thank You mikesc. Bert. -

Maybe mikesc thought he would be criticized for not being specific enough, by some? Bert. -
If you don't have normal plates for W.A. on your car, they would just think your another local in the big smoke and ignore you and by the time you get home the boys in blue would just think your doing your deliveries and leave you alone. Don't forget that alcohol kills germs, I only use it internally in-case I swallow some thing. Bert.

They would be real handy to have. Do they come in other colours? Bert.

Bunnings (Hardware chain here) put an advert on TV, that they will home deliver, so I jumped on line and every item I choose was marked not for online sales. Now I have to up there, so I don't know what they meant with their home deliveries? Bert

Wow, so much info me head is spinning. Thank you, this is what we need to stay healthy during this outbreak. Thanks, Bert. -
Thank you Glen. I think have found a part number for the draw runner screw, it looks like #122.
-
Yeah, I do.

Looks a bit better then a cake lid and nail? So long as it works and yours looks like it works real good. Thanks for the idea. Bert

Sorry, it appears the correct number for the Machine Screw for fastening machine to stand is #50616E . Thanks, Bert.

I have seen these before, my daughter has one for her plastic Brother machine and she was lead to believe she could sew anything with it, but her plastic machine has to much movement to sew anything heavy. I think they where made for domestic sewing machine and not industrial machine like your 31K15, that is why your hubby had to modify it. If you was a walking style foot Singer 31, then there is a Singer 31K19 or 47 that has a walking or alternating pressers and they work as designed. Bert.

@Constabulary Yes, it's the screw need to attach it to the treadle base, I thought it was #118, then I read here, it was a #128, then I read the new number was 50632, no matter what the number is I only have 2 screws to hold my machine to the treadle base. I have just made a new draw and runner from the one that was on the base, but it was only held with 3 screws. @RockyAussie I thought I would try to get them in Australia before I order from other suppliers. Been to a couple places locally can not find any thing close, one bolt place told me to re-tap them to a UNF size, real helpful he was. Bert.

Can anyone tell me were I can get parts for my 29K58 in Australia or do I have to order from another country? I have been lucky, the machine appears to be in better condition then I thought when I purchased it. At the moment I only need 2 machine mounting screws Part #50632 and screws draw runners. I do not know the number for the draw runners (bracket). Thanks, Bert.

I have several bigger sewing machine and one of them being a Singer 132K6. I have two bobbin cases for it, one for 20M and the other for 40M (at the moment), as it can be a pain to change thread sizes with out mucking around. Being able to swap them over quickly means my tension is already in the ballpark of where I need it to be. Bert.

Or wrong size. Bert.

But do you have the time to play? Bert.

As far as I see it, there is no set tension for setting up your tension. I cannot say you need to set your bobbin at 5 pounds to sew 6oz leather and 8 pounds for 8 oz leather. The leather can vary, as can what size needle you are using. Just way to many variables. I say to people, when you make your project, keep the scraps and use them to to set up your machine. Here is Australia I can have 25C° and tomorrow 35C° and what tension I'm sew with today, will be different tomorrow. Rocky put up a good article about tensions and if I can find it, I will list it for your reading. Have fun, play with your scraps and set up your machine. Bert.

Wow, nice find. I know nothing about them, but been looking for years around here and never seen anything like that. Bert.

I think you may have reached the limit of your machine, most of us have done it at some time and now it might your time to move to a heavier machine. Sadly they are not cheap and I found the first one hard to justify, but you will be able to sew what you want to. Many great people here will help you if you think you need more information. Bert.

Thank you. Bert. -
I have been play with my Windoze 10 1909 and turn off half of Microsoft's bloat ware and thought maybe I got to heavy handed with handy work and being to lazy to fire up another computer thought I would ask the question. Thanks, Bert.

My daughter was having problems with her plastic fantastic machine and when I was playing with it, I could feel the plastic twisting under my hands as I sewed. She had to much tension on it. I offered her one of my 16's, but she told there no good they only do straight stitching, she's right of coarse, but at least they stitch all day every day. Bert.

Thanks, I thought I may have stuffed up something on my computer, again. Bert.
