That is cool. BTW did you use a veiner for the scale look or is it a series of knife cuts? curious. And judging by your handle you're a Marine? If so, Semper Fi. If you are currently serving, Thank you for your service. Murray USN (Ret)
  2. If you use a standard 8 oz flask and 3-4 oz leather, you dont really need a template. Its more or less a rectangle 8" X 4 5/8". Then all that is left is deciding how you want to lace it. Thanks Rouge, thats what I was going for. I used Tandy Gel antique "Tan" rubbed it on all sloppy like and kept working it then wiped off excess and did it again. Murray
  3. Thanks Vhakra, Once I got the template set up, it only took about 35-45 minutes per. (not including, drying/dyeing times).
  4. Thanks Harag, I had been wanting to give it a try and this situation just popped up. I love the way they turned out. I say, give it a go, its a fun little project.
  5. Take your time. I have been doing it the only way I know how... get a ruler and eyeball it. I think I will have to get a "Real" knife to make it look even better. Thanks Carson and Jay.
  6. I made these flasks for my daughter and her friends as a prom gift. We're having a good old fashioned southern BBQ dinner and they love them. But they have warned about putting booze in them. Fun project. Thanks for looking Murray
  7. Hello all, Here is another shot shell holder. I made it for a local outdoor men's ministry group as a prize for their upcoming sporting clays shoot. Their logo is pretty intense. I dont know if Im saying this right but, the tooling is a combination of repouse and traditional carving (and a couple stamps too). Thanks for looking... enjoy Murray
  8. Not to be overly simplistic, but..... it looks to me like you could just reverse the strap on the front knob. i.e. flip the strap at the attachment point.
  9. Thanks Vhakra. Like I said earlier, its the first "Navy" thing I've made since I retired (and since I started leatherwork).
  10. JME, I'm no pro (by any stretch of the imagination) but I do know that "buying a few holsters probably wont work. There are far too many models and brands of pistols/revolvers for most to take a chance on. On top of that, there are many methods of carry and types of holsters. So what you are asking for is a shot in the dark. Beyond that, after mark up you may be priced out of that market (unless you find a maker that can put them together fast and cheap). My 2 cents.
  11. That's Sweet, Mike. Beautiful work.
  12. Thanks Aguilera - ATC(RET) here. ... AND thank you Ray. Say, Ray, you still have them mallet dies? I was looking for dimensions on a couple of them. Lord Bless.
  13. Thanks Nappers, he (the guy I made it for) loves it.

    Mallet Dies-----

Ray, what are the dimesions of the rectangle dies (I count 3 of them)? Murray
  15. I also used it for the lettering on the other side of the wallet. It was the only thing I could find that was small enough and slim enough to make the impressions I wanted. Thanks again, Bear.
  16. Thanks bear. How I did the chain - I took a jewelers screwdriver, filed the tip down a bit (to fit the curves) then just kinda pressed in the impressions. It took a while and my hand was pretty sore afterwards, but I think it turned out awesome. Thanks again.
  17. Thanks David. Les, Thanks, shipmate. I have been retired for about 5 years and I got to feeling really nostalgic when my friend asked me to do this. Hooya.
  18. Love the two tone look on the belts, and that pouch is classy.
  19. Us Sailors love that anchor. On a small scale that chain gave me alll sorts of trouble though. Still pleased with the end product.
  20. WOW!! just...WOW. Those are fantastic. You really do need a website, I'm thinkin' those would sell....WELL.
  21. Hello all, A friend of mine, who's still in the Navy, asked if I could make a full function wallet small. After some trial and error, I finally came up with a design that I liked. He also asked to have a "USN" anchor and his rate/rank on it. I jumped on this one as I am a retired Sailor and have not yet done anything Navy related. This is what came off the work bench - enjoy.
