Open To Constructive Critisism.
snubbyfan replied to catsmith's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Overall, I think it's a good design. I'm not a big fan of blocking a holster to death. Rather, just enough forming to securely hold the gun, like this Glock 43 holster. In my opinion, not only should the stitching come closer to the trigger guard but to the edge of the holster as well. I usually run mine somewhere between 3/16 of an inch and 1/8 of an inch. The belt slots need to be refined, finished and burnished on the inside. Burnishing an edge doesn't necessarily mean that it'll be substantially darker, just gives the whole piece a more refined, finished look. -

I had a similar question about molding a holster with a basketweave design. -
My First Holster And Post
snubbyfan replied to K5HEP's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Looks good to me, especially for a first attempt. It's a whole lot better than my first attempt. -
No I didn't but next time I get my orders caught up, I have some ideas. I'm thinking of dying a basketweave stamped holster with saddle tan, trying a coupla coats of Tan-Kote as a resist, using some Feibings Antique Finish paste, then another coat of Tan-Kote as a finish. If it turns out well, I'll get some pictures, then it's up for sale.

That's actually just a test piece. I used Eco-Flo chestnut hi-lite color stain. With a top coat of Tan-Kote.

Scrap Box Project

You're right, I put some nickle plated rounds in and that was just what it needed. My belt and holster match my boots. I've got a few that ended up there. Thanks Monica. -
They look lined to me. Really nice work there.

I've been waiting for the US Postal Service to deliver some requests. Apparently four feet of West Virginia snow was a bit much for them. Everyone's been contacted and told of the delay and they've all been pretty cool about it. Anyway, while I'm waiting, I feel like I'm going through leather withdrawal and decided to make something simple from my scrap box. The loops are 5 ounce, main body's 7 ounce and the welt's 9 ounce. Gratuitous edge shot. Alright, I'm ready. Where's the barbecue?

I'm also interested, I want to try using some antiquing gel. I'm thinking of trying a coat of two of Tan-Kote as a resist.

I'll generally go about 3/16" or so. Often I don't measure, I just go with looks about right to me. This holster was measured and the stitch line was placed at 3/16".

My Best Sheath Yet

You're welcome, glad to help. I just showed it to my wife, she said, "oh my that's a nice edge." -
Our adventures in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia. We measured 24 inches in our back yard on Sunday but we kinda figure it was more than that, it just settled a bit. We took our time and got all dug out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3L4SWeikuiw

Aesthetics, setting a stitch line down in a groove just looks "tidy." That being said, there's not a single stitch groove anywhere on my own personal belt and holster. Sometimes I'll groove, sometimes I won't, depends on the look I want.

Vegans... I once asked a vegan why he chose to become vegan. He replied, "for reasons of health," then lit a cigarette.

Welted, Lined Holster
snubbyfan replied to snubbyfan's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
The 5906 holster's gonna be an open top with a tri-weave, dyed saddle tan with dark brown edges. However, since I make my own patterns, it'd be easy enough to modify it to a thumb break. Check with your "friend" see what he thinks.
