Welted, Lined Holster
snubbyfan replied to snubbyfan's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Thanks guys, my next video's probably gonna be about this massive snow fall we had out here in the mountains of West Virginia. Then after we get dug out and I can get to the Post Office to pick up some orders, it'll be a coupla holsters. -
That looks fantastic!

Welted, Lined Holster

Thanks guys. Stay tuned, I've got a holster for a Glock 43 and a Smith and Wesson 5906 coming up. -
This one's my own personal rig. It's welted, lined, hand stitched, burnished, tooled and matches my belt. That's a wide edge. Video build series. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLQtTNBOy6Ky8QDrP5KsPszP40QpxpdYDp

really cool way to honor your mother's chess set. Looking forward to seeing the finished product.

How I do it. I start out with sanding. Then burnishing. This is a different holster.

Hand Stitching Beginner - Minimum Tools Required?
snubbyfan replied to makiba's topic in Getting Started
When I first started, I had a pair of dividers, an overstitch wheel, a scratch awl to punch the holes, craft needles and some nylon blind cord. I worked at a factory that made blinds and dug rolls of rejected blind cord out of the trash. Not a very good picture but one of my early attempts. I saved up and got more tools as I could afford them. Now I use either a stitch groover or the dividers, stitching chisels with 3mm spacing and 000 needles. I have a variety of waxed threads to use depending on the look I want. I use a stitching awl if the leather I want to stitch is thicker than my chisels are long. I still don't have a proper stitching pony yet. Instead I use a wood clamp on my work bench. Eventually, I had so much stuff I had to make a box to hold it all. -
It came out looking pretty good. Glad I could help. I never could get a picture to show the depth of a finish. Even on HD video, moving it this way and that, trying to get the light to hit it just right. Also, I always dye my stuff before it's even glued up. I'll often use a thread color that'll contrast/complement the color of the leather.

The dye's drying the leather. Neatsfoot'll put the moisture back. Just rub some on and let it sit for a while.

First Legit Leathercraft Attempt
snubbyfan replied to tardis86's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
For a clip like that, I'll usually attach it to a separate piece of leather and attach that to the back. It's keeps it in place. -
For a Sam Brown stud, same thing. Attached to a separate piece of leather and stitched on.
-
I haven't done a knife sheath with a clip but I have done holsters with belt clips. I just attach the clip to a separate piece of leather and attach it to the holster. Just be sure to recess the stitches on the inside.
