  1. Minus 25..... Takes me back to the period in my life living in Montana. Plugging the engine block heater at night so she'll start in the morning!
  2. I like to walk in and rummage through at the Hidehouse in Napa, Ca. They have a big selection of different grades of veg tan. https://hidehouse.com
  3. Should have included this above. The mark I burn is a simple U shape. And that gets laid down three times to become MU. MU besides standing for Maker Unknown is also a Buddhist concept for nothingness, no thing, nothing, negative (a simplification) and fits in perfectly with my brand.
  4. Mine comes from something I said towards the end of this video https://vimeo.com/51324376. A friend approached me and wanted to shot a documentary of sorts on a piece of furniture I was making. There was drinking involved for sure, and I said I would be happy if the piece ended up in a museum, and that my name didn't need to attached to it. The art placard next to it would have the circa date and Maker Unknown. i liked the sound of it and kept it. And while not in a permanent collection, the piece did happen to be placed in a temporary exhibit because a curator had watched the video.
  5. Here's my thoughts. Since it's a very old hide, make something old from it. Go to the library, buy, borrow or photocopy "Wildwood Wisdom" by Ellsworth Jaeger. (My favorite book from childhood) In it are lots of old ways about making clothing and stuff from hides. He wrote the book to sort of document the ways things were done back in the day. There are some sample pages here.
  6. Fascinating how we humans gain knowledge collectively and then lose it. Or maybe not lose it entirely but can only be found in small pockets here and there. You'd think we wouldn't have to keep relearning stuff but civilizations come and then the dirt seems to cover them up only to sprout again. Will the internet be the repository for all knowledge or will it too suffer something akin to the dark ages?
  7. Gotta love the old way of decorating a machine. Beautiful.
  8. @Mjolnir. Made them both. #1 on the list of how I make money is through commercial photography. #2 on the list is custom furniture so if it's wood in my place, then I made it. Thanks.
  9. This was the shop yesterday morning. A non profit asked if they could hold a photoshoot for low income families of Oakland, CA. And this is how it looks this morning...for the moment. I live and work in an old warehouse. The living room, over by the windows also holds the hand woodworking tools. I'm standing in outer parts of the kitchen that is where the car gets parked. The woodworking machines live to the left, the big photo equipment is stored there as well until needed. The space is never ever ever the same, it can be completely different in a matter of minutes. The rolling cart in the foreground holds leather tools as well as cameras, lenses etc. The line of wine bottles are from recent wine shoots...one of the perks is I have a never ending supply of free top of the line wine.
  10. Interesting. I went to photo school in Santa Barbara in the late 70's.
  11. Commercial photographer. I've photographed just about everything since starting but specialize in photographing alcohol, mainly wine. Website Live in Oakland, CA.

  13. Nice video. It's interesting how creative we humans are in so many different mediums.
  14. Did not know about O'Baltor & Sons. Love old school brick and mortars.
  15. Ha! You're probably right. They've stolen everything else you leave on it….I've had seats, lights, wheels taken.
