Coming To For Sale Section Soon----
cgleathercraft replied to raysouth's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
Hope to see what you have posted here before it goes on Ebay. I can't afford to spend major bucks on a bulk order of several things I may never use so one-off purchases or pick-and-choose would be great for me! -
Bought a shoulder from Springfield. shipped it halfway across MO and was 9.55. Cant drive 6 hours on 9.55 worth of gas. Even with my car getting 38mpg. Of course shipping is dependent upon what is ordered (size and weight). I haven't ordered anything yet from any supplier where the shipping was considered out of proportion. When I ship something. It's usually by USPS Flat rate. It's consistent, easy, insured, and comes with a tracking number. My issue is when an order take 3 business days to ship. No one specific supplier can be blamed with this as it happens from time to time. Though the ones it happens most consistently with I order less from (Or not at all). I worked in IT for the supply chain portion of a multi-million dollar corporation. Financial penalties could cost hundreds of thousands if a shipment was delayed just a few hours. If any suppliers are reading this -- the faster my order makes it out your door, the more orders you will see from me --

Info Request: American Straight Needle
cgleathercraft replied to cgleathercraft's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Watched that video about 5 times lol. I've found prices on a few websites though i'm not sure how accurate or up to date those are. Even so, I believe I'm getting a decent price. Gun oil, WD-40, PB Blaster, or about any other oil/solvent is in no short supply around my place. Even have food safe silicone spray tho I only use it on my meat grinder. As stated before this machine resides in a saddle shop as a backup machine so I believe it is in working condition. If not i'm sure its not far from it. I'll get a list of his suppliers for needles/thread/parts when I pick it up (early March). Found a couple sites listing different attachments for different applications. the most interesting was the corner stitch attachment. I'll definitely look into picking one up if possible. If anyone is interested when I get familiar with the machine I can make some videos and post them. -

The best steel wool is found in the hardware section of most big box stores. 000 or 0000 size as it breaks down faster. Brillo pads will work just need to make sure to get ALL the soap out first. Your canister size will depend on how much you want to make. just make sure to not tighten down the cap. Just sit it on the top the reaction between vinegar and steel will create a gas and cause the jar to explode otherwise. Keep adding steel wool till it stops dissolving. This procedure can take several days sometimes up to two weeks. Mine did, but thats because I used almost a gallon of vinegar. Filter through a coffee filter to get any chunks left over out. Either brush on or dip depending on what leather item your making and how much roon you made. Timing the dip/brush is something you will have to determine on your own. Results vary from person to person and batch to batch. Although, a batch a roon will last a long time. Be sure to neutralize with a baking soda solution dip or wash. I'm still playing with the right amount to use so someone with more experience can help there. After its dry it may be a little grey or purplish. a light coat of neatsfoot oil will bring out the full potential and add some nutrients back in that were lost in the process. If the black is still not dark enough consider adding some really strong tea to the roon. I had some black tea that tasted like tree bark(yuck) that I left steeping for several minutes in boiling water. This produced a slightly darker black.

Several people dye blue first then black so, yes, it will work. Haven't tried it myself. USMC black is good if you don't mind buffing till your arm is tired. I use vinegeroon. Cheap and produces a very dark black that will never fade or rub off. There are several threads here already on production and use of roon.

Sorry to hear of your accident...I know they are just words on a screen but they are sincere. I have been looking for information for quite a while on how to tan fish. Most of what I've found is for taxidermy and I wasn't sure if those methods would hold up to the use of a wallet or such. Your info has helped me a lot. Now the ice needs to break up so I can catch some catfish!

Leatherwork And Crypto Currencies

If I remember correctly the amount of bitcoins are finite. meaning no more will be created only their value will increase (or decrease) depending on what we put in and take out (except whatever is left to be mined). Basically the value of a bitcoin is based almost entirely what we invest into it. The more people that buy in the more its worth. The more people withdraw the more it goes down. While I might accept it as a form of payment, it won't bring much value to the bitcoin world because I wouldn't just leave the coins to sit. They will find their way directly into my bank account and it will be a one way transmission. -
SD cards and flash drives are both electronic storage and not magnetic storage. Magnets will not affect them. Tried this myself multiple times without any data loss. I believe the same would go for SIM cards but I won't put my money on it in case I'm wrong. One of my degrees is Computer Forensics. We tested this theory in the lab and found that it took an extremely strong magnet to have any affect on even the most vulnerable of digital media. Hard drives themselves have a rather large rare earth magnet inside of them (at least the older ones did). Even then the failure wasn't from the erasing of data, it was the read/write heads crashing into the platters when the magnet got close enough. Didn't cause data loss but made it VERY difficult to recover the data. Newer hard drives (and any magnetic storage for that matter) are mostly unaffected by any kind of magnetic interference unless you have a device specifically designed to scramble magnetic storage. Tape drive erasers will scramble most forms of storage, including credit cards, but are rare to come across. Ran one across a running laptop...fried every piece of hardware inside of it. long story short - unless your getting an MRI with your phone in your pocket, your data should be safe.

lol fair enough! Good luck finding .22LR the only ones I've found are online and 3x what they were a year ago...cheaper for me to shoot the mosin now -
Yes Northern Missouri, about 1.5 hours north of KC I used a small tack hammer that I picked up at Menards. Light taps had them holding strong enough that it took pliers to get them off. I believe a small arbor press would work better to crimp them a little tighter but I don't have one to test with.

I wouldn't go more than 10 oz. They fit very cleanly on the 6 and 8 oz pieces I tried. 12 oz (two 6 oz pieces back to back) was too thick.

I will get the measurement tonight.

Finally Got A Website Up, Tell Me What You Think
cgleathercraft replied to dpip4x4's topic in All About Us and Off Topic
your getting a lot of very useful information for SEO that will usually costs hundreds or thousands of dollars. Their advice is solid and i'm going to implement a lot of their suggestions into my own site. If you have a college kid build your website make sure to ask for sites that they have built. Some can follow instructions from a book but can't build a decent site to save...well...anything. Call and talk to their instructors too. They will give you a good recommendation. -

Darn good looking sheath (and knife too). What on earth is he going to do with such a big blade? Hunt wild boars?
