Looks very nicely done Mike. What type leather did you use for the main parts? Gary

I use the LH foot most of the time and double foot next. Gary

For paint edges...?
garypl replied to D2G's topic in Dyes, Antiques, Stains, Glues, Waxes, Finishes and Conditioners.
I just received an email from Giardini stating they have new, lower shipping agreement with FedEx, so shipping may not be as expensive as you suspect. Why don’t you call Giardini and ask for a quote? They offer paint in 250 or 1000 ml bottles and they offer an extensive variety of colors. Gary -

I agree with Mike - I use a Giardini and the edges look good and are very durable and flexible. Gary -
Beautiful work Tim! I would not want to sit on them for fear of ruining all your work! Gary

Good points Bob - I think we agree all pizza is good, some better than others. I think the biggest problems with pizza in Atlanta are the lack of proper spices (i.e. fennel) and crust that is too doughy. I binge eat pizza whenever I visit Chicago or the Northeast and stick with good barbecue when in the South! Gary

HaHa! I have to respectfully disagree with you Bob. I grew up in Chicago but have spent a good deal of time in NYC and in my book the Chicago thin crust beats everything I have had up in the Northeast! Atlanta pizza is generally pretty mediocre, so anything up North is better! Gary

Mike, I left Chicago in 1981 and just arrived back here yesterday to attend a wedding. It was 85 degrees when I left Atlanta and it’s 50 degrees now here in Chicago. I would never want to move back here, but I sure do miss the Italian beef sandwiches and pizza! Gary

Durability of sewing veg tan to other leathers
garypl replied to benlilly1's topic in How Do I Do That?
I have sewn upholstery leather to veg tan with no problems. I glue them together and sew away. Since I normally use the lighter upholstery leather as trim, I normally sew with the upholstery leather on top. Gary -
I am certainly not an artist, but I see many folks on this forum who I definitely would call artists! I consider myself an apprentice leather craftsman, because I have a lot to learn and my skills definitely need improvement! Gary

Rifle buttstock pattern and type of leather
garypl replied to AJ2018's topic in Patterns and Templates
Look forward to seeing your progress. How many hours do you think you have in it already? -
It’s just overlapped and glued, with the outer trim strip going up over the seam for extra reinforcement. The top and bottom trim strips reinforce the top and bottom edges. This is the first time I have not sewn the side seam, so I am curious if it will hold up as well as the ones I sewed. I think it will, but my nephew will test it for me and report back how well it withstands usage! Gary

That’s looking really nice! Gary -
Finished a beer growler caddy for my nephew. 4-5 oz vegtan and trim and handle are made from a piece of upholstery hide.

Welcome! I agree with you, seems like every week I am buying a new tool, more leather or other leather-related items! Gary

Needle Size, Thread, Spi And Leather Weight Rule Of Thumb?
garypl replied to Bluesman's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Bob, does this Singer sew slowly or only at full speed? For small, thin projects I am looking for a machine that runs very slowly. Gary
