  1. Mike, those leaves look fantastic! Gary
  2. Riem, if you are using calfskin for the loops then stretching may be a concern. I use 4-5 oz veg tan and they don’t stretch much if at all. I agree with Dikman that shells need to be slightly loose for cowboy shooting. Mine are all used just to hold extra shells while trap, skeet or sporting clays shooting and I am never in a hurry to reload! Gary
  3. I have never seen the need to put a strip under the loops to stop the shells. I make them a snug fit and they hold the shells securely even after several years of use. Might save you another step! Gary
  4. I also use the chocolate dye and have never had a problem. You must have a bad bottle. Maybe write to Fiebings and explain the problem - they may offer a replacement. Gary
  5. Good tutorial - thanks Mike! Gary
  6. Great looking bag and I love the lining! Only critique is that I think the front straps would look better if they were rounded instead of squared at the tips, but that’s just my opinion. Nice job! Gary
  7. Welcome David, Those are nice looking sheaths and good to hear about how you got started in leatherworking. Look forward to seeing more of your projects. Gary
  8. I bought a cheap sponge at the dollar store. Cut it into smaller pieces (@2 x 2”) and it works just fine. Gary
  9. I think it will be a neater solution. Bob says I probably will not have to cut out the slot in the table. I’ll post results after I get it installed. Gary
  10. Bought a box speed reducer today from Cowboy Bob - $190. Box mounts under table and motor mounts under the box. Should slow down my machine so I can better control it!
  11. I saw a box type speed reducer sold on eBay for $210
  12. I have bought lining leather from SLC only when it is on sale. I also buy from Wickett & Craig when I need thicker vegtan. You have to check what’s on sale at the various suppliers. Gary
  13. I have placed two orders for leather from SLC and have been very happy with quality, price and service! They have good deals on lining leathers. Gary
  14. Wow! Those are beautiful boots! Gary
  15. Nice job Gus! What does the back look like? Also, what type leather, thread and finish did you use? Gary
  16. I have never tried NFO before dyeing - but I have read on this forum about mixing NFO and dye to color leather. I suggest experimenting on some scrap leather and see what works for your purposes! Gary
  17. That dye dried out the leather and thus the curling. I would treat the pieces with a good coat of NFO and flatten them out with a weight overnight. Probably not much you can do about the shrinkage because pieces of leather may shrink at a different rate. Gary
  18. I’m no expert on alligator, but I made a cigar case using embossed vegtan- was bumpy like alligator. I put the edges in a vise and flattened them so I could punch holes more easily, then I hand stitched them. Turned out ok, maybe real alligator will work the same? Gary
  19. Sorry - I thought you wanted to make one. Look on Amazon for leather conditioner/waterproofer - there are several that many folks in this forum use. Gary
  20. I like the gun and the holster! Only comment is, I think it would look better if the flap followed the outline of the holster - to me it looks out of proportion to the actual holster, but this is my personal opinion! What type leather, stitching did you use? Gary
  21. Looks very good - look forward to seeing the completed project! Gary
  22. I would use bridle or latigo and if you want to reinforce it you can glue a piece of web strapping between layers and sew them up. If it’s a small dog I wouldn’t worry that much about stretching. Gary
  23. Thanks Gregg - I really enjoyed watching the video. I have always wanted to learn to be a machinist, but I think I am running out of time - too old and too many hobbies already! Gary
  24. Nice job Wheelgun! What type leather did you use? Gary
  25. Another great looking project Mike! I really like the border stamp - what kind is it and where did you get it? Gary
