  1. Thanks everyone, dad was really happy with it so that was the main thing
  2. This is a pad folio I made for my father for Christmas. Made from 6oz leather and dyed tan then antiqued with saddle tan. Lined the inside of the cover with black pigskin just for contrast when opened. First pic is the cover before doing any sewing. Inside front cover has 2 pouches that I wet molded for a day planner and a few pens. The notebook actually slips inside the flap on the back cover to keep it in place. The flap for the snap was sewn between the cover and the inside flap.
  3. As they say, sometimes less is more And that is a very fine looking case
  4. Great work as always Chief, love seeing your stuff as it is a real inspiration
  5. Thanks Wild Bill, I'm hoping he likes it as well I used to have trouble doing a simple basket weave, last weekend I sat down and nailed doing it in the arrow pattern on the first try. I thought it was a fluke so I did a second one and pretty much nailed it too lol It all comes down to not rushing and taking the time to think things out before putting tool to leather
  6. looks good. stitching looks nice, even and well placed from the edge. I like the way you did the card slot/money slot on the front. On the back with the basket weave, only thing I might have done different is beveled around the area you did the star to make it stand out and also around the outer edge. Also, some of your impressions seems deeper then others but getting that uniform does take lots and lots of practice.
  7. Yeah, I'm not used to doing much actual carving so it was a pain. I know where I screwed up a few things so I'm debating on redoing it and instead of carving Legion, stamping it instead after I enlarge the pattern just a bit so I can use the 1/4" letters. Other then the few carving mistakes, I'm happy with the outcome. Just need to remember to wait until I have a few hours to sit and concentrate on what I'm doing instead of doing it between other jobs.
  8. thanks Wild Bill here is the completed project. I decided to line the inside with glazed pigskin. Finished with tan dye then a coat of supershene and black antique. Edge was burnished with beeswax then all done with carnueba wax.
  9. So I've finished the stamping and done the dye job, still need to do the antique then put it all together
  10. looks good, I'd be happy to use it
  11. stitching itself looks good other then getting a little close to the edge at the top left corner (current image orientation). Maybe try cutting and leveling your edges before you cut your stitching groove. Form looks good and the dye job looks good. Can't see much of the edge but what is showing looks nice and smooth. Is it just a pocket sheath or is there a belt loop on the back?
  12. I still have some words to stamp on it and some small circles to add on the crown. I thought I was going to be painting it but I showed it to the customer and he likes it without so will just be staining it a light color and then adding antique to it
  13. Had a customer ask me to make a day planner with the Royal Canadian Legion crest on it. Not being one to back down from a challenge, I said yes. On second thought, I should have said no I'm thinking a single stain so the crest doesn't pop so much but will still be visible when looking at it. I still need to do the word stamping on it But, let me know what you think so far
  14. all I can say is WOW! That is seriously one beautiful job, not that I expect to see anything but out of your stuff Chief. I'm not even going to ask how long it took to tool that piece but I know it would be about 8x longer for me to do it
  15. as usual the work itself is great but I like the one with the black better. Just enough black to offset it enough that you can tell the main is ox blood but not too much black that you loose sight of the ox blood behind it.
  16. That's why I was curious as to how old it was, to see how well it stood up and I'd say they will stand up pretty good
  17. that's really cool looking Rohn. Nice job on the lacing. Just out of curiosity, how old was the old change purse?
  18. Looks pretty good. Looks like you got a nice burnish on your edges. Stitching is a bit rough in places as you mentioned. Only thing I might have done different is made the back a bit higher so the tool was resting on it and then cut the front down to allow easier access just so the top of the tool isn't digging into your side. Would also allow you to have the case sitting lower on the belt.
  19. Overall it looks good. I do see a few of the edge holes are out of line but mostly pretty good. something to keep in mind is the size (radius) of the actual snap as that will affect the snapped length. A size 16 snap (female end) has a radius of 3/8" so if you go 9" on a 8.5" wrist, it only leaves 1/8" free play. So unless your measurement is exact, it probably will be too tight. ** feel free to correct my math if I'm off
  20. if she liked it the way you did it then that is what matters the most And it's all part of learning and improving
  21. I don't think you did anything wrong with it, everyone has their own way of doing things. I was simply giving you a suggestion to help you improve And if mom likes it, she's the one that matters in this case
  22. Looks good overall. The lacing could use a little tightening up and the corners need some work. Check out Chief's videos on youtube for mexican round braid, they really helped me
  23. very nice and good idea, may have to start that as a tradition myself
  24. Looks good and as long as he likes it, doesn't matter what anyone else thinks but good idea on the never ending sewing awl, those small rolls just always seem to run out too fast
