  1. Beautiful work Bruce and another vote for keeping it natural. Most of my Glock holsters are black as well. And not to hijack this thread anymore than it already has been but, I personally love revolvers and carry a Glock 19. So does my wife.Glocks aren't made to be pretty just very functional and rock solid reliability. It also helps carrying 15 shots versus 6.Ok enough of that, back to Bruce, keep up the great work bud.Dave
  2. Try some Vinegar or regular mustard works.A little slow but effective.Dave
  3. Paul, not quite sure of what your looking for, especially the hand part. This pattern is a two piece design that adjusts from the bottom sling swivel using chicago screws.I have the thumb loop on this one riveted but multiple holes could be punched and attached via chicago screws.Dave
  4. Well the magnets work great for some other things.I have done a couple of flapover sheaths using them. I did them just as a standard inlay and covered them with some real thin deerskin.I would suggest two magnets.Dave this is one I did that way sorry no pics of the magnet inlay.
  5. Great looking sling Max.Nice carving as well.Dave
  6. If the glue works then fine. But for giggles ,I will tell how I tackled the problem.I haven't posted about the three layer method but have done it and it works, but is somewhat thick. My method for doing it requires a little grinding or filing on the stone to make a lip around the perimeter to make it top hat shaped.I then shape the back of the stone to match the contour of what you are laying it against, inmy case a sheath.Cut a hole in the leather to match the top of the stone and press over.glue and sew the strap on.Dave
  7. I haven't tried dyeing sharkskin, but had good sucess dyeing Crocodile with Fiebing's Pro Oil Dye.Dave
  8. I would really like to discourage you from using rivets on sheaths. They are not very strong, are not needed if the sheath is constructed properly(with welt, glued and sewn) and don't look very professional on custom sheaths. They have thier place in the leather world and I even use some on some of my slings for thumb loops and for small cases.Dave
  9. No Max, I just run it through the loops and attach it to itself.Dave Here's a little bit better shot
  10. E-mail sent.Dave
  11. Max , yep just punch an extra 5or6 holes about an inch apart.Dave
  12. Max, on mine I also use chicago screws for the top and the bottom, DO NOT USE a rivet on the top.It must be removable.I also use a chicago screw where the bottom strap connects to the top piece. The only rivets I use is on my thumb loop.Dave here's two that I did.
  13. I usually put sight rails on my Glock models especially because Glock sights are rather weak. I don't do a one piece channel though, instead I use two strips about 1/2"-5/8" wide sewn in and they pickup the corners on the slide, and the with the molded front leaves about a 1/4" of clearance for the sight. You could probably get by with gluing as long as you stitched the top, but since I almost always do inlays I have an extra piece of leather to cover up any sight rail stitching.Dave
  14. It's sold by the square foot and the price varies due to market conditions,so you would have to call them. They are great people and supply many of the leather shops around the county.Dave here's a look at some of the hides and colors
  15. I'm not Kevin, But I get mine from here http://ostrichmarket.com/ .Dave
  16. Thanks guys, Max, I used a single and tried to make it wide as possible for support and use some heavier leather.I used 10 oz for this one and make it as stifff as you can.Dave
  17. Just finished these for a customer. The holster is similar to one I made awhile back for a Ruger Mark II.I just added a lining to the shoulder piece and carved some intials in it.The inlay is Ostrich leg.The sheath is designed for small of the back carry and the customer wanted no straps for retention. So I made a thinner welt in the lower 3/4 of the sheath and added a wedge in the welt at the mouth to make insertion easier. The inlay is Nile Crocodile.Dave
  18. Pete, alot of makers use rare earth magnets.I have used some but usually prefer not to use them for retention.I also have used them in place of snaps on flap sheaths for holding the flap down.Dave here's one with a magnetic flap If you send it to Nick, you will not be disappointed, he does fine work.
  19. Looks pretty good considering your experience. As with most newbies, the problems usually involve fit and finish, and that comes with practice and learning good techniques.Spend a little extra time straightening up your edges and I would dye and seal the interior of the holster, if your not going to line it.Its all in the details my friend.Keep up the good work and practice on those details.Dave
  20. Greybeard, nice to see you here.Nice work.Enjoy yourself here froma fellow Floridian, just South of you.Dave
  21. I agree with the others about the sweat shield. I generally prefer not to use any forward cant in my holsters unless requested which is rare.I have many friends in Law Enforcement and gun instructors and they all almost without exception dislike the forward cant. Can't wait to see the finished product.Dave
  22. I dye it, then use Fiebings Leather Sheen.Dave
  23. Beautiful as always my friend.Chuck's video's are avaiable here.Dave http://www.wrtcleather.com/
  24. Looks great Max, glad you tried it.Not much I would do different except if I don't line my sheaths and holsters, I always dye and seal the inside.Dave
  25. Max, your more than welcome my friend, and thanks guys for the comments.Dave
