I used one of those hand V gouges to get the line straight on each channel then carved out the recess with a french edger.

Excellent, I noticed right away the look of the stitching is greatly improved over some of the earlier bags on your site. Well done, someone will definitely enjoy it for many years.

That is a great design, cool crosses and fringe.

New Twist on a Key Fob From Scrap
Jordan replied to Jordan's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Actually sewing takes the longest, too small and the straps get in the way to put thru my neels. I think I have a winner for impulse novelty sales and I am leaning towards $8.00 -
Many ways to skin a cat so to speak, If you make enough money from your products then having a punch or two made is the way to go. If not, then it's hole punch and razorknife time, harder to master than smackin a punch, takes lots of practice for me to get good looking slots.

Stolhman book has a tip regarding short posts, use a french edger to recess the backside of the hole, apparently does not weaken the area too much as long as you don't cut away to much.

New Twist on a Key Fob From Scrap
Jordan replied to Jordan's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
SoCal born & Rasied moved to UT 12 yrs ago to raise our kids in lower crime'n'crap. Lookin at AZ now as I am pretty tired of the lack of separation in what controls who around here. Just a personal observation, I don't want to get into a pointless harang about religion and cults if y'all catch my drift. Lets just say that any public sector job above peon is preordained by the powers that be. -
New Twist on a Key Fob From Scrap
Jordan replied to Jordan's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Here are the other two I put together last evening. Plus a side view of all three. $5.00 to $8.00 is about all I will be able to get at the farmers market if last summer was any indication. But hey, they were fun, made of scrap and are afterall only key fobs. -

Thanks, guitar picks have a good tone on my acoustic but they fuzz up and wear out quick. Just have to tough it out with the government, can't do 9 to 5 anymore what with diabetes, neuropathy and bloodpressure troubles, I'm only good for a few hours at a time and those darn employers expect 8 to 10 at a stretch.

That is way cool, love those skulls, and I don't usually care for them, give me the heebie-jeebies.

Beaverslayer Hat Tutorial
Jordan replied to Beaverslayer's topic in Clothing, Jackets, Vests and Chaps
Great lesson, I think it is time to print them up as instruction booklets and sell them thru tandy and such. Wonderful looking hat.,and vest in the other tutorial. All that lacing is intimidating, one wrist band and my fingers ache for days. -
Thanks for the nice comments guys, made my day. It is challenging to think up ways to use bits and pieces of left overs. I have had a knack for cleaning out the fridge and making a good tasting meal, maybe it carried over into leather do-dads. LOL..Jordan

Some items I am working on for resale this summer, still using up my scrap, can't use any bill paying funds for larger pieces of leather. It is a drag being at the mercy of the ssdi courts, they seem to revell in sending people into the depths of financial ruin. Waited 15 months for a hearing now they tell me another 4 to 6 months to make a decision. Oh well at least I still have leatherwork to keep me going.

wood or plastic 3/4 to 1" wide 1/4" approx. thick and 5 or 6" long rounded over on all edges and alittle thinner on one end. Has to be very smooth or it will telegraph the imperfections to the leather. I had good results with the shaggy side by wetting the strap and using a belt sander with worn down grit. Lightly pull the strap off the end of the sander a few times in one direction it removed some and burnished the rest. Experimentation is about the only way to find what works for you.

Belt sizes
Jordan replied to JustWakinUp's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
The info I have read in belt books is basically measure an existing belt, or measure from the inside of the buckle where the tang touches the rim after going thru the hole of the belt to the middle hole of the 5 to be punched on the other end of the belt. Those 5 holes are usually 3/4" on center, then there is an additional 4 to 5 1/2" of belt past the last hole. Also on the buckle end the leather is skived sloted and folded over, I usually allow 2 1/2 to 3" for that area, so 6" total. Visually easier to understand if you visit some web sites that sell belts they will have a sizing section that probably has a drawing of what I am trying to explain. Disclaimer....I do it this way but it is not the only way....just gets me in the ballpark. Never take the customers word for it, most still have the waist they had in high school in their minds eye. So a 42" would need approx 53 1/2" of leather according to my poor mathmatical mind. -

Nicely done, the surface is a little to krinkly for my taste but as they say, what lola wants, lola gets. (wonder why they don't make movies like that anymore) LOL -
Completed Sandals sans watch hehehe
Jordan replied to Jordan's topic in Shoes, Boots, Sandals and Moccassins
Used an old pair of flipflops to get the shape then looked at a bunch of pictures on the net of all kinds of sandals then figured out how to route the straps and went for it. I am very happy with how they turned out, actually some of my best stitching so far, next time I will use my machine and save my fingers. -
wish i could take credit but no I saw the heart thing on the tandy site or in one of their emails.
