  1. Beautiful! I still don't have the courage to try anything with real faces or torsos, but you captured it on your first try. You have a rare gift.
  2. +1 what Karina said. They polish up nice. work fine.IMHO
  3. I was doing a turn around the local flea market this morning when I spotted a package of hollow punches. They are sized from 1/8" thru 3/4" and there are 12 punches in all.............priced $10.00. Now I was not all that interested until I picked them up, and saw they were Canadian made. Each punch has a snap on edge guard and right out of the package, they are pretty sharp, but a few minutes on the ceramic wheel, and finished off on the power strop, and they are like razors. Now they are carbon steel and will require constant attention, but for $10.00 I am pretty stoked.I have now coated each with Metal Minder, to keep them from rusting. Not bad ........right?
  4. I am not sure he is still alive or not. But Pressley Guitar was the maker of high quality coin tricks and gaffs. His pieces are still prized among those in the business of "Illusion and misdirection ". The deepest round piece I have ever wet formed was 2 inches deep and 4.5" in dia. Maybe others will have more input. Cheers Eccho
  5. Hello Mateusz. I think your problem is not enough dye. You have to use enough dye to really penetrate into the leather. Let each coat dry one day, buff and dye again, let dry one day (24hours ). Two coats should do it, but be sure to let it dry completely before putting on the finish. I like Resolene, but if you want to be able to put additives into the leather, leather balm is fine. Hope this helps, and I am sure there are more opinions. Eccho
  6. Hi Kristine, I live in Ontario for 61/2 mo. of the year, and S. Texas for 51/2mo. While in Ontario I deal mostly with Tandy, as I have three stores in relative close proximity. The closest is actually 3hours away. I have built a bit of a rapport with the manager of that particular store, and they have come to know me, and what I expect in regard to leather. If you are able to visit your local Tandy, try doing that. Introduce yourself, tell them what you are going to make, show them what you feel is the type of leather you believe you would like to receive when you order. I have had to return a few things, and I have had to get credit for a few errors, but I have never had a problem. I keep a PO box in Mich. which is only an hour from my home, so I get orders dropped from US suppliers and go pick them up. It is just so much faster than waiting till things clear customs. I have bought from Springfield Leather Company, and have visited their store. I have had wonderful service from them, and gotten nice leather from them, but I think shipping to NS would be prohibitive. For my money the absolute best supplier of all things hardware would be Ohio Travel Bag. They are easy to set up a wholesale account with, and their prices are very good. I believe they have a minimum order of $30.USD, but I should be so lucky as to only need that much.. Try to establish what you are going to make in the next 2-3 months, figure out what you will need for hardware and try to order it all at once, as much as you are able. I am certain others will jump in here and some will not agree with me, but I can only tell you what my experience has been. Keep tooling, and welcome to the net. Eccho
  7. Pictures would certainly have helped.....hhhmmmm.
  8. How are you keeping water from getting into your foam core? I was thinking about mold, Love the look though. Not so much installing all those eyelets, sheesh.
  9. Use it, enjoy it. If it is still tight after all these years, it was well made, and may very well out last you too. That didn't come out well, but never the less, it looks like a useful piece of history.
  10. Looks really good, so does your dye job. I like it, a lot.
  11. Well it looks like the struggle was worth the while, very nice belt !
  12. Thank you for a very useful tool.

  15. Overall pretty good, you certainly have the idea. Fit and finish would be my suggestion. Slow down and take a little more time, the end result will be worth it. Your stitching is pretty erratic especially on the back side. Get your self a pricking iron to mark your stitch holes and a diamond awl to make the hole you are going to stitch in. Your holes seem pretty large for the thread size, so think about that ahead of time, and make the appropriate size hole for the thread needed. The strap would have looked better if you had burnished the edges to avoid that hairy look. But! You pleased the most important person anyway.....YOU! You enjoyed making it, and are pleased with the result, so things can only get better. It's not about the destination, it's about the journey, so enjoy it. Cheers...Eccho
  16. Go Snubby! Looking forward to it.
  17. Quote the price before you make it. No sense in making it, only to have the buyer back out. Many people think that because a "friend's husband" made it, it has no value. We all value our time differently. Some are professionals who make their living at it, some are doing it as a hobby and only want to cover their materials. You do nice work, or your wife's friend wouldn't want the belt. Be honest with her and yourself, you may be pleasantly surprised. Cheers. Eccho
  18. The finish on your bags looks great. Nice job.
  19. I make motorcycle bag and purses, most as you described, and I usually always skive the edge. In my opinion it lays in much nicer. In fact I skive all the edges, back front and gusset. This gives a much narrower "edge" IMHO. I'm sure others will jump in with other opinions, and that is what is so great about this forum. Cheers.Eccho
