I have a draw gauge blade from knip, and it's amazing! I really want to buy one of his head knifes too! I have a good 1o knifes too, osbournes j cook, Steve powers, the weaver knife and my favorite one is a theo Harrington! It's old, it's thin and it cuts and skives like butter! I think the j cook is sharper however, but the feel of the old knife, and it's cuts are effortless! -Andrew

Consew 206 Rb-2 Or Adler 167-Gk373 For A First Machine?
awharness replied to PattiN's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
I think it's all personal preference and set up. I have an Adler 467 flat bed and have had a Adler 204 flat bed as well. Every machines going t have nuances? Try them both see what you like! The motor and table do make a difference as well but can easily be changed. Wiz is right on with the different model recommendations, you can never have just one machine! -Andrew -
I just picked up a bibo edge painting machine that looks like the Campbell-Randall rc 50... What kind of edge paint does everyone use? I just tried the itailain edge paint that Campbell sells, but it didn't work so well for me, I'm going o try some weaver edge paint here after lunch, any input? -Andrew

Hand Operated Clicker: Weaver Or Texas Custom Dies
awharness replied to rmr's topic in Leather Tools
I bought one from weaver, but it was the shop press style. I'm really not impressed with it to be honest! You cant see what you're clicking and it has limitations on size of material that will fit in it. I'd get it cut by someone else... Or buy a real deal swing head clicker! -Andrew -
Old cow poke had a cyclone on here awhile back for sale, search it and you can see pictures, also if you google hunts harness there are a couple pictures of a cyclone there!

Dan byler in Conewango valley ny makes a lot of nice tools, he does a gang punch and a riviter/slide loop stapler. Not sure if he would make a spotter. I was just out to his place yesterday picking up some stuff and having a coffee.... -Andrew

Great work! On the Gator belt, did you just glue it to the liner? No sewing? how thick is the liner? -Andrew -

Juki 441 Clone Versus Adler 205-370
awharness replied to Steven Kelley's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
I would agree! I had an adler 204 flat bed and Ive had chinese 441 copies, the adler was a lot better built, but when push came to shove that Chinese machine just works! and works and works! and the 441 should release the top tensioniers when you kick down the presser foot lift... -Andrew -

How Do You Work Biothane Or Brahma Web
awharness replied to Art's topic in Saddle and Tack Accessory Items
Its hard to explain the differnce, it just feels "less cheap" if that makes sense... the biothane has a better hand, a little bit less plasticy. Don't get me wrong they both work up nice, but i will always go for the Biothane over the bramha web if I have a choice. I don't use a ton of it, so it doesn't make a huge difference with the price. -Andrew -
How Do You Work Biothane Or Brahma Web
awharness replied to Art's topic in Saddle and Tack Accessory Items
I like the biothane better then the bramha web, and its US made. I treat it like leather, but they say it sews up better with round point needles, I usually kiss the end of the strap with a lighter to take off the stray hairs. Skiving its a little differnt, but I like to put a third piece(little wedge) at folds to give it a neater look and easier use of the buckle. I typically use the Super heavy, Beta -Andrew -
Saddler's Shoulder Crease And Pricking Wheel
awharness replied to yankeeinoz's topic in How Do I Do That?
To get that rounded edge crease Ive found that Barry King sells an edge beader http://barrykingtools.com/handtools.htm The new osbourne never work for me! Ive got an old gomph double line ones that I really like, and a bunch of Osbourne double line ones that I dont like! I dont heat the Barry king, but I do heat the Gomph double line. and for long runs Ive got a crank creaser. My arms are long and I'm a big boy, they dont feel right for me! I have Blanchard pricking Irons that I really like too! -Andrew -
My Wc Experience
awharness replied to dickf's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Ive had good luck with them, I was ordering bridle sides, they finished beautiful but had a softer hand. For some things this was good but for others not so much. They sent me out the sample cards, and a bigger chunk of the "Show Harness" Ive been buying the show harness now and really like it. At Weavers auction I bought a dozen sides, some "Show harness" some "Work Harness" and for the most part it's good, obv. the leather at the auction wasnt the best they offer! One thing about them that blows my mind is the Color names! They have all these differnt tanages, and then they will have some common names, but they're not the same color! Med. Brown in bridle isnt Med Brown in Harness, or Show harness! Colors are confusing for me anyways! Dark brown or black! Other then Color, the sides seem to run a bit light in weight, not a big issue, they're consistant! and the leather finishes off beautiful! Harness, Show harness, bridle, Work harness... I dont care what they call it, but they're who I call! -Andrew -
Nik, I would Contact Ken Chapman at booth and Company, He deals in a lot of english leathers from Pittards, and Claytons of chesterfield. CLaytons isnt Sedgewicks but he has shipments coming over from england all the time! He also carries Joseph Dixon tools and a bunch of other random things. He's a great guy, and I am sure if you expressed a NEED for Sedgewicks he has the shipping channels to get it here as cost effectively as anyone! He does take frequent trips to England as well. Tell Ken I sent you and I am sure he will treat you well! try the Claytons, its got a differnt hand then Sedgewicks, but a bit less expensive, true ENGLISH and it has that Smell that is second to none! -Andrew www.awharness.com

That is great! I talked to him some time ago when he went MIA, one of the members here, or on Shop talk!'s message board sent me his personal cell phone number, He was shocked to get a sewing machine question there! But he seems very passionate about his machines! I've got a number 9 and want a classic! the 441's clones are hard to beat on a lot of things, but when set up and cranking that #9 throws down a pretty handsome stitch! -Andrew
