Jazzman, Bigsmile ------------------ Just as an added tid bit, If / and when you want to start tooling, you might even go to one of those stone counter top stores and ask for a piece of Marble / Grainite scrap. usually their happy to ablige, and are usually free, or perhaps a nominal charge, and use that to learn tooling on. Its all you'll ever need ! As hole punches go, for beginning , try sharpening different sized copper tubeing, or wireing conduit. see; Tandy Pony or Horse clamps, Maybe is possible take the design and make one for yourself from wood scraps --------------- Wild Bill46

Knife Sheath - Dyeing Edge Different Color
Wild Bill46 replied to theonechrissharpe's topic in How Do I Do That?
I have, Fiebings Edge Kote in Brown and Black colors. Tis is all I use. Not sure if other colors are available, If using these, then no dye would be necessary ! Not sure, but I think I might have seen a clear Edge Kote ? if this is so, aother dye would need to be used, before that clear. And I would coat all the way around all the edges. Hope this gets you out of a jamb ? ----------------- Wild Bill46 -
Knife Sheath - Dyeing Edge Different Color
Wild Bill46 replied to theonechrissharpe's topic in How Do I Do That?
Chris This would ultimately be a personel choice. If you dye just the edges ? apply an EdgeCoat. then a sealer such as Resolene, or Saddlelac. Sometimes I use a stainless paddle to make the edges neat and clean, but it can feel clumsy, . or sometimes I might use a sponge, sometimes I might use a daubber, or even a piece of cardboard as a paddle. Maybe this will help ? --------------------------------- Wild Bill46 -
Coin Case With Framed Construction
Wild Bill46 replied to Lone Fortress's topic in How Do I Do That?
LF I'm thinking you might be a bit hard on yourself, This looks very nice to me !!! Your dots or Chicago screws (as I think your refering to) might be a bit off ? but that could be from how your punch was held, and in which position, or the tool itself. To make yourself feel better - Try making a templet of card stock, holes and every detail included, now use a pencil to put a reference pencil dot on the leather through the templet where your templet says the dot should be. all you'll have is a pencil dot, with no reference lines. As you progress you'll develope a style all your own, as you will with methods. We all do this, whichever way works best for ourselfs, but only with Patients and Persistence ! Your design is nice, your color scheme is nice too, and the dots (screws) make it pop ! I say Congratulations ! -- Wild Bill46 -
Hi, Flyguy and hi also to Lenore As a topcoat several options are available. As Lenore says, Resoline is very good but, most use it cut 50/50 with water ! Now is when I use it, full strength As a topcoat. ------------ Or --------------------- SuperSheen is prefered by many. I have used it in spray form, but it only leaves a semi gloss Saddlelac also in spray form, is what I now use, and leaves a more shinny coat. All of these are Fiebings products and available at Tandy ----------- Or -------------------- I read that some prefer Mop and Glow cut 50% with water still others use a mixture of Beeswax, Turpentine, Glycerene heated together before hand. makes water tight I guess ? I hope this might help you find your direction. ----------------------- Wild Bill46
