!help! Help ! Find Pattern Long Wallet !
25b replied to denisfilatov's topic in Patterns and Templates
Ok, well fortunately I saved all the other pics you posted already since you just deleted them. I will add them to this post after I upload them. This looks like a job for Super-Pattern-Maker!! (AKA "tboyce" ) Here are the wallets that were up before...I'd be very grateful for any patterns for these that tboyce feels like creating. I understand his extraordinary skills have been in high demand lately and I value his other contributions greatly. Also, Mr. Boyce, could you please make a pattern for this? I'd love to make one of these for myself... Thank you again for all your generous pattern contributions you've posted here!!- 36 replies

That's pretty rude. Sounds like the people you buy from are probably not very well informed about PayPal's "seller protection" and how it works. Even if that's the case, that's no reason to be hostile about sellers that *do* know what they need to do to be protected against claims.
-
For the OP to ship it via a method that is acceptable for PayPal (so that the seller will be covered in the event of "non-delivery"), they are required to ship it via a trackable method. That means Express Mail International or Registered First Class. Registered First Class would be $33.00 and Express Mail would cost $66.95 if the package weighed just over 2 pounds which is just a guess as it may weigh even more than that with that Colt stitch pony in there. That is the reason I also will not ship to Canada. In order for me to be covered by PayPal, the shipping cost is very expensive and customers don't want to pay it so I just don't offer my items internationally anymore. Good luck though.

Advice Wanted On Pricking Irons/stitching Awl
25b replied to Grey Drakkon's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
I have a couple of Vergez-Blanchard #7 and the teeth are wider on those. The Dixons I have are all #10 and are 1.2mm tooth width. Some have said that you have to specify that you want "slimline" teeth on the Dixons, but that is only on the lower stitch-per-inch (SPI) ones. The higher SPI ones, they make the teeth less wide so it'll be proportional. As far as the SPI you choose, that's generally dictated by the size of the items you're making. ..*generally*. There's always exceptions, but I use the #10 on watchbands, Field Notes cases, wallets, etc. I use the VB #7 for cases and satchel type bags. The #10 looks great for very fine items and is similar to fine English leatherwork. Works great for saddle-stitching...I use V92 bonded polyester with John James 004 needles and it turns out pretty nice. -

Well, I'm not sure how wide the teeth on those are. Mine are #10 and the tooth width on mine is 1.2mm, so I got the smallest size awl Dixon makes and they work perfectly together. Did you order the "slimline" version or just the standard one? -

That all depends on what size pricking irons you bought. -
Actually, Hardtke... I just bought a nice black hide from him and am in the process of cutting lace from it. Might consider selling some of it... Anyway, it is a very nice hide. Beautiful, blemish-free roo hide...

There's been a lot of talk on this on here before. Most people heat stamp Horween leather. Some have been successful stamping with a shop press. I've used a small anvil (about 15-20 pounds) to press a stamp in before and it worked ok but not nearly as well as heat stamping does.

.....ok What is the swivel snap for?
-
I got the #2 one and it is beautiful...fits my hand perfectly and is a joy to use. I'll be stitching together a Horween football leather Field Notes case with it tonight. Can't wait to use it some more!

What is it?
-
That's what I said. None of the "popular" ones (Chromexcel, etc.) are veg tanned. In my previous post, I was responding to nrk's post.
-
Yeah, they produce veg tan horse butt in limited quantities, but none of the "popular" ones (Chromexcel, Dublin, etc....the ones sellers seem to talk up on etsy and other places) are veg tanned.

Jazzman, Sent you a PM about burnisher sources. Kind regards..

My thoughts are that I know I'm not perfect because I'm human. But I want my work to be as close to perfect as possible so I am unrelenting on myself in that quest. I never settle for "good enough" in anything I do. If it's worth doing, it is worth being the best at it as possible. One quote I've read before that I identify with is "Amateurs practice until they get it right. Professionals practice until they can't get it wrong."

I'm glad you all like the link. I have had great transactions with leathercrafttools.com One time I had to combine orders because I found some other items I wanted to order after I'd just finalized another order. They understood my request and had no trouble combining the orders to ship at the same time and they refunded the additional shipping. The tools and other items are exactly the same as goodsjapan and also those I bought when I was in Tokyo. I order from them pretty regularly. I hope you all will have great experiences with them. I am glad they are a great alternative to the much more expensive goodsjapan.
-
Ok, I'll send you a PM.
-
I already offered that to him. No reply yet. The chainmaille chains I make look tons better than the chain in his pic...

Before you get overcharged at goodsjapan, go check out http://www.leathercrafttools.com Lot cheaper for the exact same items and their service and communication is great.

So I have a Sailrite LSZ-1 and I went to sew on a project this morning...and I noticed the material wasn't getting moved consistently. So I increased the stitch length and that didn't help. Then I removed my work and found the feed dog was loose. I took off the needle plate and found the feed dog had broken right at the edge between the actual feed dog part and the part of it where it is screwed onto the chassis. And of course I tried to call today to find out what Sailrite intends to do to make this right and they're closed on weekends. Awesome. This is clearly a manufacturing defect. I've probably sewed less than ten hours total on this machine since I got it new. I've oiled it as I should've and have pretty much babied it. I'm pretty upset that this happened because I have customers waiting for their items and I cannot finish them until this is fixed. I have a much larger machine (NOT a Sailrite) I'm trying to rig to finish these projects, but since it's set up to use 207 thread it's not going to work well with size 69 thread...and I don't have 207 thread in the right color or I'd just use that. I may just have to sew the items with black 207 thread. Anyway, I am very disappointed right now and just wanted to let others know if you have an LSZ-1, you might want to order a few feed dogs and keep them as spares in case yours shear off due to bad metallurgy like mine did.

Pics of what you're looking for would help.

Not unless you can find some veg tanned Horween somewhere. Not gonna work with chrome tanned.
