  1. Thanks all and I thought that that would be the only option but prefer to get advice from people with more knowelege then I have (which is not hard only been doing this for about a year now lol) and ugg sanding lots and lots of HAND sanding...some days I honeslty hate my idea about no machiniery touching the leather once it gets to me...doing things old school can be a pain!!!
  2. I got this hide from tandy, thankfully it is not "quality" hide but for the price that I paid I did not expect to see this.(note picture) on the back side of the hide. It is like they did not totally finish the hide and this kind of bits of stringy material are on a large portion of the hide I do not want to just cut that part out and throw it away as the front is ok. But to me it looks like the piece is just not finished properly. So is there anything I can do to get rid of all this stringy bits or do I just have to leave it as is or ruin the front of the leather?
  3. I am glad I can help light a fire under someone! I really like that lid, oh and the edges of the boxes that I have done are just slicked I did not cut them at an angle the stitching pulls them intogether rather nicely.
  4. Damn it now I have work room envy!!!! Love the sewing machines IF I ever get one (as I do everything by hand ) that is the kind of sewing machine I want something that is powered by human not electricity.
  5. A bit nice for a 4 yearold!
  6. Ok as there are like 12 photos from start to finished using imgur to post all of the pics. This is a fully inverted tooled leather jewellery/storage box liked the idea of using an inverted tooling this time around really gives it a bit of pop to it. http://imgur.com/a/Hmiab
  7. That is really hot love the idea of the pig skin lining. Mine is not lined at all.
  8. Now those are cool! How long did it take start to finish?
  9. Most welcome and i would not have considered it a rip off if you had sewn it lol. Just rember what i said about the sizes being a bit on the small side
  10. Figured I might as well add mine as well Really do love the rivet idea that would have been a headache figuring out that..oh and another one of me wearing my hat and a steampunk style mask this is what happens when the stress gets to you! lol The second hat is a medium sized cow boy hat that I made from the tandy leather hat pack, the sizes are a bit off to be honest so if you get it remember it tends to run a little small
  11. THose are really cool looking!
  12. Thanks Grey will fiddl with the pics in the morning
  13. This is what i had in mind pic wise for selling and putting it up on my webpage what you all think?
  14. OH yeah these photos were just to show the board i have plans to change the background massively lol and a few other shots such as having some chainmail jewellery inthe box as well as peaking out when the lid is "closed" kind of picture.
  15. hmm will have to give that a try thanks Grey the botom already has a nother piece of 8 oz glued to it so that it fits inside the box nicely the wave was just from tooling the leather i think. Have set the price for it at 80 i think that is more then fare hell the conco on top cost me a fair bit of money hehe
  16. After two days, 2 and half hours of tooling alone on the lid the box is done, using imgur as there are 11 photos http://imgur.com/gallery/MfVlb
  17. just one word WOW!!
  18. Forgot to mention about the pattern pack the sizes are actually a bit small. I made one of the cowboy hats measured my head and it was an inch under the max of a medium...well the hay does not fit its too tight so keep that in mind
  19. Good idea about checking with the hobby trains! here is the pattern pack that I have, had to take it to a photo shop to have it printted out though and its an OLD format so they will have to go a size bigger. https://www.leathercraftlibrary.com/p-1210-2662-leather-hat-pattern-pak.aspx
  20. That is very cool mate!
  21. I really like that look, by the way tandy has a hat pack that I used for my pattern (has three sizes the largest one that I used ofr my head is a little big for me when wife puts it on it just slides down to her shoulders..told her she looks good that way..she tried to hit me while wearing the hat for some reason!!) The rivet look is interesting and ib et it was a pain in the ass to do along the the top. What I REALLY would like to do is find a plastic steam whistle that you can either have "steam" come out of or at least the noise of the steam engine but saddly have not had luck with that lol.
  22. Yep cost is huge on that and I was just talking the leather! But really great work!
