  1. Looks like it ruins it? Something about a 30 dollar duty for international, the price list didn't show much that was cheap, and then shipping takes a quote. So, it looks like domestic purchases will be "more affordable". Maybe we should start farming kangaroo like they did with the emu in the 90s.
  2. I also have his tiny pattern knife. I bought it used from a member here.
  3. This is the other knife I got. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F153135279469 I have probably more knives than I will ever need now. 4 knipknives 3 Kevin Lee Almost 2 Wuta knives 1 Sorrell skiving knife 1 Sorrell Lip knife 2 more knipknives on order. But, then again, in all of this I only have one round/head knife??? Hhhhhmmmmmmm maybe I need more than one?
  4. I received word from Wuta that I can feel free to keep the right handed knife they sent and the left handed model is on the way. That is good news..... Meanwhile my January order and my Japanese style knife from Kevin Lee showed up yesterday. The Japanese knife looks very sharp and we'll made for the 38 dollar price tag. However the handle is pretty fat with a short blade so we will see how it does for skiving. The little hawk billed knife I ordered in January looks like it will come in handy for tight corner work. I have had several orders from Wuta over the last 4 years. Shipping has always been slow, but free, and I have always been more than satisfied with the quality to price ratio. These were my first 2 orders from Kevin Lee, shipping was slow and free. I sent him an inquiry about why my January order shipped with my March order. I am assuming it has something to do with containers filling with orders. I am waiting on a reply about that. All in all I am happy doing business with people in China trying to bring quality to the American market for reasonable pricing. I will be ordering more from both suppliers.
  5. Just thought I would share this for newer folk. Don Gonzales is a really good teacher. https://m.facebook.com/dgleathercraft/
  6. I asked, but just saw the email an hour ago. So, we will see.
  7. Yep, they ship stateside. @YinTx
  8. I emailed them earlier about the shipping range. No reply yet.
  9. That makes sense..... Like I said, I was only guessing.
  10. When it dries completely you could always disassemble, glue, then reassemble? Just guessing....
  11. I found that I had to up my lighting game. It takes lots of light and minimal shadows for me to do anything accurately. Do you have any stitching chisels or pricking irons?
  12. If you decide to break up this set or if the buyer has no interest in it.... I'd be glad to give $10.00 plus shipping for the frog stamp.
  13. I like it.
  14. Update on the shipping race from China...... Wuta won in the fastest shipping, but I received the right hand version instead of the left hand model. Kevin's knife hasn't arrived yet. Both were ordered on March 14th. Wuta knife arrived March 28th. And, let me make sure and mention that I am very confident that Wuta will make it right. Things happen. I still have two items from Kevin that I ordered in January that haven't arrived yet. He has been good about responding to inquires and I did place my order while the Chinese New year was going on. To date I have received 2 orders from Wuta since the January order with Kevin was made. The Wuta knife did arrive plenty sharp and shiny for 18.99 with free shipping. I haven't done anything to the blade as he will probably like to receive it back. Further information to come.
  15. What you have is pretty much it. Pro Oil dye and Pro Dye are the exact same formula. I'm not a 100% sure but I believe the pigment is oil based. A few years ago I emailed fiebings about all the confusion and they replied that they were dropping the oil name to reduce confusion, but the formula was exactly the same in the Pro Dye. I didn't ask about the actual pigment. Leather dye is somewhat different although I don't know why or how. I have always noticed a metallic sheen left behind by the regular dye, but it buffs out easy enough. I haven't ever noticed a difference in penetration or evenness when comparing it to the Pro Dye. But, I am just a hobbyist and have no long term data to share about how it wears over time compared to the Pro Dye.
  16. If it were me, I think I would make the top panels glass. It would add a little natural light and give you an inkling of who is walking up on ya. That's just me though.
  17. And it's looking great. In the states we use a lot of this OSB plywood in framing houses. Which the common person doesn't realize that is gets hammered by the weather for a month (or more) before it's "dryed in". The product I mentioned earlier in the thread is warranted against delamination in the weather for up to six months. Meaning up until that six month mark the floor man shouldn't have to do any surface prep other than floating the seams. That is a pretty impressive claim. I have seen what normal OSB does after a few months of weather.
  18. @Ferg, I'm glad you posted this at least one more time. I'm not in the market for one, but if I ever get there I will remember your words. Thanks.
  19. You talking about Kevin Lee? I got stuff I have been waiting on since January.
  20. There doesn't seem to be much Support from them on Instagram?
  21. Y, I didn't have to put my foot on the bench. I just kind of did a skewing motion back and forth. But, take note, that blade was really really sharp. I wouldn't have attempted it otherwise.
  22. You will need to learn to sharpen. That is one of the many techniques needed for leather work. Get yourself some sheets of glass, quartz or granite. Then aquire some PSA backed sand paper, some varied grits of PSA backed lapping film, and make a leather strop. I just recently split 8ozs of very hard and dense bridle just under 8 inches wide on my heritage 8 inch splitter. You need to allow for some stretching so over cut your pieces. Get those pliers mentioned above and get that blade super duper sharp. Watch videos on scary sharp. It can be done. I only have the 3 inch pliers. And it was still a bit of work.
