  1. I think they sew first. The outlaw and the 3500 have the same thread capacity and lift I believe.? The 3200 tops out at a half inch and 346 thread? I'm no expert just trying to point you in the right direction.
  2. Knock on wood, I've yet to cut myself with any of my knives. I have a healthy bit of respect for them. Especially that curved detail knife from Terry. Anytime that thing is on the bench I'm completely aware of where it is. I treat that one like a loaded gun.
  3. I call it sissy juice. The draw guage has always scared me. Why in the hell is that blade so damn long? I have a few junk ones that I don't use. One came with a Terry Knipshield blade. I use the blade as one of my knives. Someone should make a draw guage blade that is similar to a lip knife. Then it wouldn't be quite so dangerous.
  4. Funny how this thread just came to me this morning. For the last four years I have been using just a piece of 4 oz veg tan for a strop. No wood, just this sad little piece of leather. Just last night I finally made a strop for my splitter. I mean literally just last night. I used a piece of 1x3 poplar and a piece of black drum dyed Herman Oak 8 oz vegtan. I was going to put a flesh side and a grain side to it. But after taking a wire brush to the grain side for adhesion, I decided I liked the looks of that. So, I glued it scuffy grain side up. I think it'll do fine. The bad part of this? I'm a freaking carpenter for Pete's sake. I've had access to wood all this time. And never bothered with making a strop. Guess I'm just lazy.
  5. It could be as simple as 3 slots cut with no back to them. My wallet I carry is that way. The cards in the lower pockets keep the ones in the upper pockets from sliding down. It has been working fine for me for about 2 years. Another possibility is that they used ribbon material and contact cement. There have been some help videos posted here before on how to do that. Some people stitched the ribbon, others said just cement was fine. Another option is just modify that section and give them some T slot pockets.
  6. If you contact Black River Laser she might be able to make you one. Her prices are really reasonable.
  7. I believe @Uwe is making his version for the 3200 now.uch nicer than the stock one.
  8. Speaking of all this I finally broke down my heritage splitter this morning to finally sharpen and strop the blade. I haven't had the blade off until now. I am looking forward to seeing what it will accomplish after a good sharpening.
  9. And here is that video.... Google tracking and algorithms working for the good for once. Found myself on YouTube this morning and Lisa's video was front and center after searching for skiving knives last night.
  10. Dangit, I read somewhere that if you could only get one, get the big one. So, I didn't order the small one. Maybe next time.
  11. This thread got me motivated..... So, I just ordered one from Lisa Sorrell.
  12. I know @RockyAussie swears by his Bell skiver. If I were doing a lot of bags and wallets I would look into one.
  13. Don Gonzales has just completed a 4 part series on his YouTube channel. It includes a free PDF pattern for you to download and follow along with him. He seems like a very down to earth teacher and really comes across well in his own style. I don't do any tooling yet myself, but I sure enjoyed the videos. Enjoy.
  14. I haven't done anything to my switches. However, both them dang things need a flashing light somewhere. I keep forgetting to turn them off before I stick my hands in to mess with bobbins. So far no mishaps.
  15. I recently came up with this idea....
  16. These things have been around since long before the English language. I don't think the terminology means that much. I did like the bird's head comment though, that makes sense.
