  1. I use my Android phone and photo Resizer. It works fine if I reduce them by 50%.
  2. I don't have the answers. There are only a small handful of people here that mess with footwear. And, even less that deal with lasted boots. If time and money weren't so tight the best option I think would be to take Lisa Sorrell's boot making course. You wind up with a pair of lasts that fit you, and a pair of boots that you make. But, even then, those are cowboy boots. I don't know if she would do a class on work boots.
  3. Well, I don't think I have ever dipped anything that had holes. I would think that you would want to wait so it doesn't give the dye an extra entry point. But, it may not turn out as bad as you are thinking. If it does, just touch up the lighter areas with a dauber. I know you were shooting for the lighter brown, but that's no reason to scrap it. After it dries 24 hours take a look at it. Maybe if it's not too bad you can even it out with some neetsfoot oil. That tends to help the pigment distribute throughout the leather a little better.
  4. I should get a Christmas card from Gillette. I have been using their shaving products and deodorant for 30 years now. Case looks cool.
  5. How old is the photo after dying? I'm thinking it will probably even out after a day.
  6. I'm not @AdamPCain, but it looks like a security camera mount. We have some similar to this in our warehouse.
  7. Yes? I mentioned the PDF as well.
  8. It looks like a tight area hole punch to me. Is the back side of it open?
  9. Yeah, after posting that I remembered seeing they had sold out of a lot of that stuff. But I'm sure they get more from time to time. They usually have the bison though. But that may be full sides. Springfield keeps a healthy supply of stingray. Tandy has also had bison scraps for sale recently. I'm not sure if it is shrunken grain or not. They also had some moose last time I visited. But it was tumbled and fluffy. Sorry, I couldn't be more help.
  10. Zoom in a little closer on the picture. You will see the flat blades on the far left. Pricking iron. The two in the center have points, but the legs of the times are the same dimension all the way up. Stitching chisels. On the right you have the crimson hide. Each blade tapers as it goes down the leg to the point. This is a new style that crosses over from a stitching chisels to an actual row of awl blades. So, the point will Pierce the leather and then the legs will spread the hole open. This allows the hole to swell shut around the thread. Genius.
  11. Nigel at armitage leather has done an entire series on stitching chisels and pricking irons on YouTube. He also has a PDF chart available with the findings of about 12-15 sets. The stitching chisels all come to a point, where the pricking irons have a flat blade at the end. Pricking irons = simply marks the leather surface for the awl. Stitching chisels = hammers thru the leather to negate the need for an awl. I hope someday to be able to order the crimson hide sets. Their points are shaped like individual awls. If I knew then what I know now, I would have started with those.
  12. I'm not familiar with the Angelus, but I use the fiebings all the time. Give it a good 24 hours to dry after you dye it. Then you buff it dry. Don't add anything wet to it. No water, acetone, or alcohol. Then you can add the conditioner you want. I use neetsfoot oil. Give that 24 hours to penetrate. Then add your finish. Good luck.
  13. Thanks Brian, I hadn't seen where you had inserted the PDF before. So, the bump was dual serving.
  14. That's a surprise! And kind of grody. @Heespharm,put that thing down and wash your hands.
  15. Hahahaha.
  16. I am just guessing, but it looks like someone that you might put heat too.
  17. It was a total boondoggle. Your wife is right, as always. I was on that site to help rebuild them. So, let's go off topic for a minute..... Those turbines we're manufactured by a company out of India. Originally, they were producing 1.6mw turbines. Then they decided to up the ante and produce 2.1mw turbines. The problem was it was the same turbine with a faster turning gearbox. They didn't beef up anything else. They just slinked it on in there. They also added 4 crappy little space heaters and called the turbine a cold weather rated turbine. When I first started working on them the communication between the parts and the controller were too fast. So any little hiccup or ghost signal as we called it, would cause a fail and shut the thing down. It was terrible. We couldn't make them run steady to save our lives. Then they fixed the communications. It was great. For about 6 months. Then their undersized turbines started having real problems. The 1.6mw generator started to burn up. The gear boxes started to have problems too. It was just one giant hot mess. They cost more money to run than a natural gas plant. Which is required to shut down units when the wind is blowing. Then spend 10s of thousands of dollars to fire those same gas turbine units back up when the wind turbines break down or the wind stops blowing 3 hours later. The whole dang thing was just one scam after another. And for what it's worth, I saw one of those new evil coal burning plants in New Mexico. The only thing coming out of those stacks was steam. Sorry, just wanted to share.
