  1. This book can help. Worth it's weight in gold. Everyone should make this their first purchase.
  2. You always dazzle me. The foxes eyes are perfection. I love the whole thing, but man, you nailed it on his eyes. And you can see the duck is that old drunk regular flapping his bill about life, women, and good booze. Just fabulous.
  3. Well that is just genius. And properly marketed. I could use a belt that doesn't dig into my belly.
  4. That is a heck of a lot of stuff you have there. Thanks for sharing. I was tooling around Lisa Sorrell's website the other day. She has a two week course on boot making where you leave with your own boots that you make. And that includes a pair of lasts that she shapes for you and her DVD collection. It's expensive, but seems like a good deal given the price her boots demand. Maybe that would make a nice vacation for ya.
  5. I only have a laser strike. The first thing I ever made was a sheath for it.
  6. Good job. I sure would like one of those kimbers.
  7. I'm glad that those words of wisdom is motivating you guys. So, I'm gonna share the story. There was a lady who used to babysit me as an infant. Her husband and my parents became great great friends. The kind of people that you take road trips with. His name was Ed Earl and she was what we called Franny Farkleberry (real name Francis). One day I was eating some biscuits and gravy at her table. In my mind, i was comparing her gravy with my mom's while she was busy making another batch. There were a lot of us in the two families back then. 13 of us all together. My mom's gravy has always been missing something. So, I asked Franny how did she make that gravy taste so good? She just stood there at the stove stirring that old cast iron skillet, and said, "I make it every day".
  8. Thanks, that's good enough for my curiosity level.
  9. The plumber's pipes always leak. If I do it for work, I don't want to do it at home. Plus it takes away from leather play time (which is always limited due to side work to make ends wave at each other). The ends just never seem to meet anymore.
  10. Just for curiosity's sake.... (I don't plan to make a saddle, just curious) So you are saying, once you have a saddle made for your horse, in the future keep the size of horse and saddle in mind for future horse purchases?
  11. Yeah, actually posting pics forced me to realize just how bad I am wasting my space. Hopefully , there is shelving in my future.
  12. We all posted our unreasonable state of chaos....
  13. This is a good looking shop. I wish I had the space for a large cut table. My side cutting takes place on a 1x12 on the floor. And I still don't have enough room to lay it flat.
  14. Not premium first run. Like not A grade. Now that I think of it, they do have a few colors of the horse butts listed as first run. The butt strips are only about 3 square feet. About a square meter, only long and slender. You can buy them for about 18 dollars a piece. Great for wallets. Here is one in burgundy.
  15. Maverick Leather sells it. They may ship internationally. They have mostly seconds, but they are still nice.
  16. That scenario couldn't have worked out any better. Cheers!!!
  17. You have a picture of that?
  18. You can get the butt strips from Maverick leather for about 18-20 dollars. They are 6 bucks a foot and come in at about 3 square feet. When I first ordered them I bought from Springfield leather. They were a little more expensive and just a tad not as nice as the ones from Maverick. I still want to try some of the blue color.
  19. Glad you liked it. I came up with it about 15 years ago. My dad's friend and I were "making knives" (putting handles on premade blanks). It was my first and so far only knife I did. Bob made sure I kept the cardboard sleeve on my blade as I shaped the red oak handle. But, he didn't need that cardboard in his way. Next thing I knew there was sissy juice all over the shop.
  20. I hadn't heard of the round glass before??? Maybe a large bottle or jug fitted to the bench in some way could work? Ooooooo or even a ceramic like a butter churn. These new ideas are endless.
