um... it's done. was planning on the production ones looking jsut like this, just without the boo-boo of course. ya think there's sumpin else I should do to it?
-
thanks to a boo-boo on my part, this has gone from a production piece to an r&d model, dagnabbit. and it was coming along so well until the final touch. forgot to put the snap on the spike and had to cut the spike off. it kinda screwed up the leather a little. oh well. next! *L* *grumble grumble* got inspired by somebody else's dice cup so I came up with this idea. lemme know what ya think.

you're really starting to churn out goodies! how do you do such killer stuff in such a short time?!?!? you're cheating, aren't ya? you got a shop full of monkeys. yep, I'm convinced that's it.

The purse is finally done...

the more ya do of 'em, the faster you'll get at it. can't wait to see what design you decide to use next. how long did it actually take you to do everything? personaly, I hate projects that take me longer than a day to do. I'm used to being able to do at least 3 of me main item a day and I still feel like a slacker. -
thanks guys! that's the page I was looking for.

somebody had posted a pic of their workshop somewhere on here (nope, it's not in the workshop pics) and they had an air powered tool that they chucked their bevelers into and now I can't find it! I wanted to know what exactly it was (it was mentioned in a reply what it was) and I wanted to look into getting one so I kinda need to know exactly what it was. any ideas peeps?

I don't think my awe and admiration of your work can be expressed in words anymore. every one jsut keeps getting better and you outshine us all in your wallet making skills. I'm gonna go cry now. -
I'm in atlanta, and there are none that I know of. but, to be honest, I haven't really checked too much. everyone that I have asked has referred me to a couple of places in cali. I have the sites on me desktop but not me laptop.

hey! welcome to our wonderful little addiction! my 2 cents worth on where and how to start would be pick which area you're most interested in and start there. get the tools for that and jump on in. once you've gotten used to all that, add another area and keep going like that. if at all possible, set yourself up a dedicated workspace. you'll find that there's people who are pro-tandy and others who are anti-tandy. I think tandy is a great place to start especially for someone who is jsut getting into this because of all the kits they have and if you can actually go to one even better if they have a good staff and classes. I've been making most of what I make for about 13 years professionally and I still use tandy and enjoy going there and the leather factory (same company) warehouse to pick up what I need/want along with a few other places. and remember, there's not much set in stone with leather goodies, so always feel free to experiment... and take lots of pictures! *L*

best that I've found is pandora.com. you can choose by genre, or better yet type in your favorite artist or song and it'll play bands similar to that. if ya don't like a song, simply give it the thumbs down and never hear it again. give it a thumbs up and it'll get a little heavier rotation. you can also set up multiple "stations" and pick which ones to play, just one of 'em, or all of 'em. you can also find out more about the song, band and album. I've got about 100 gigs of tunes on each 'puter and I don't even listen to 'em anymore, just pandora for the last few years.

LOL....Wallet Attempt
Drac replied to Russ's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
that ain't bad for a first attempt at all! do a few more and you'll definitely get the hang of it. -
w00t! congrats!

hot potato, plague, 3 dollar bill... what I consider the worst about people like this isn't the fact that they obviously don't take care items made custom for them, but when others ask them "who made that?" your name comes up and it looks bad on you even though when the item was handed over it was a great piece of work.

papa's got a brand new bag...
Drac replied to Drac's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
the kenmore is a model 385.15108200. it'll do 3-4 layers of garment leather without much of a prob and I've done 2 oz leather with a layer of garment without any real probs. it's what I used on the 2 wallets until I got to the piece that goes around the edge. I like my boss for the most part. it does have a few quirks ya gotta get used to, but I'm mostly happy with mine. if I coulda found a powered machine that would do what the boss does for less than 1500, I probably woulda gone for it though just for the time it would save me and having 2 hands free. and a reverse would be nice too for backstitching. *L* -
don't have a third one ready for us yet?!?! slacker! *L* seriously though, keep up the good work!

papa's got a brand new bag...
Drac replied to Drac's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
tom the side leather is garment leather from tandy. I like the look and feel of the garment leather they were getting a bit better, but this new stuff isn't bad and it seems to sew a bit better on my kenmore. and see banwell's post for the word. tangent the tooled side is 25 1/2" long. the first one of these I made I used half of an 8" diameter circle and 7" straight sides (leading up from the diamter of the circle. that make any sense?), but with this one I used half of a 9" circle instead with the 7" straight sides since on the first one the soft sides were pulled a little tight. think I'm gonna try 8 1/2" on the next one. banwell congrats! you win a no-prize! (extra credit if ya can tell me where that's from. heh heh heh) roo tell me about it! it's the fiebing's "ox blood". I was expecting it to be more of a dark blood red when I first saw it. glad they showed in the store first! decided it would be good though on some things. wow, me, doing colors. who'd athunk it?
