    Wider Lace

tandy has 3/16" wide lace if that helps. it's what I use when doing turksheads.

  4. I tend to sell inside clubs and "specialty" events, so I have 3 cases... make that "had" 3 cases since I had to add 2 more cases since I've added making many new items. the cases fold closed for easier pack in/pack out and hold everything for carrying AND for display. I have lights with magnetic bases that I can attach anywhere along the top for lighting. you can see part of a couple of the cases in me avatar pic. they're just 1 x 4 frames (3' by 5 1/2') and pegboard, but I can configure them in different ways. I use foam inside to keep everything in place when moving them. for me extras I use a large rolling suitcase with multi-rowed card boxes in it that I can place behind or beside the cases when I'm set up. once I'm in me location, unlock cases, place 'em, open 'em, stick the foam behind 'em and (hopefully) start taking money. to tear down it's place foam inside, close 'em, lock 'em and load 'em up. total time is usually about 5 minutes.
  5. I'm curious about it too.
  6. hopefully you're talking about the texturing that's on there. you can get something similar to taht by going to home depot or a similar place and getting a small panel of flourescent light diffuser. you can get a 2' x 2' sheet of it cheap. plus, there's several different ones to choose from. I use 'em and it works.
  7. I use an awl and hammer. just set the awl tip in the middle of the cap, give it a decent pop with the hammer, then pry off with the awl. if you have an old awl that you can faltten the tip slightly and put a lip on one side of it, that works best. did that to one of mine and very rarely mess up any leather that way. it does happen occasionally, but not often.
  8. think the leather I used for the tutorial is 3 oz., which is about average. if you use under 2 oz, it's best to add to the amount of tails. anything over 5 oz expect a HEAVY flogger or drop a few tails... or make a tawse. *L*
  9. there's a guy in austin, tx that does the same thing. amazing to watch. dunno if he's still there or not. used to set up on 6th street where the collection of bars and clubs are on friday and saturday nights.
  10. that's a homemade "sap" aka "black jack" as luke said. they used to be carried by police (some still carry one), sailors and the bad guys. they're more of an offensive weapon than a defensive one and can be flat or round, braided or stitched around the edges, have a shaft core or not (some have/had a heavy spring while others used anything from wood to rawhide to lead or steel) while the end usually has a core of lead (either shot or a ball). generally used to knock someone out from behind (for any reason from getting shanghai'd to getting robbed) or just to beat the tar out of someone (think enforcer for a loan shark or a cop giving a suspect a reason to submit). these days they're usually sold as "tire checkers". um... that comprehensive enough? *L*
  11. billy unfortunately, I have lost a few items to jerks. it did get to the point where I was having to either take someone with me to one of the places I used to set up at or bribe someone there I knew to help me keep an eye on everything and that was after trying a few different ways to "keep things in their place". if I would've caught 'em, I'd be in the same boat as you if you caught someone stealing from your set up. windy when what usually gets stolen is worth about 10 percent (or more) of what you make in sales (before subtracting set up fees, gas, food, lodging), it's kind of hard to raise your prices to cover that, especially when you're competing with several other vendors. jordan I look at like this, me whoopin' on 'em will help them see the error of their ways very quickly, and someone's gotta be the instrument of vengeance.
  12. so I decided to be even nicer with this tutorial and do up some "cheat sheets" for the handle patterns so they can be printed out. they're in jpeg format. once I get the time to refigure out the other designs I've lost, I'll add those too. enjoy!
  13. go2tex you can use any of those things (if you do an oriental themed one a chop stick adds to it), but tandy sells barrette sticks fairly cheap, which is what I use.
  14. ray, I custom built carry/display cases for me goodies out of 1 x 4's and pegboard. they're hinged and 3 feet by 5 1/2 feet when closed and 6 feet wide when fully open. you can sorta see what the cases look like in me profile pic. once I have everything arranged the way I want it, I have 2" eggcrate foam mounted on 2" solid insulation foam (the pink stuff for house walls) that I put inside the cases and close 'em so nothing moves around during transit. that way when I set up I jsut unlock, open, put the foam behind the cases and (hopefully) start making money! I load 'em into and out of wherever with a dolly very easily. as far as lighting goes, since I'm usually set up in dark clubs, I use 2 very bright clip on lights. that way no matter how I configure the 3 cases (soon to be 5 with more lights added) I can use the lights to draw attention AND light everything up well.
  15. what I use for the spine inside my paddles is 1/8" think by 3/4" wide steel flat bar. you can get lengths of it at places like home depot for pretty cheap. it cuts easily enough with a hacksaw or a dremel. I always tell peeps loking at me paddles what's inside then tell 'em if they bend one of me paddles, they SHOULDN'T have bent one of me paddles. *L*
  16. welcome to the addiction and the forum! if you have any questions about BDSM items, you can ask me (13 years as a professional crafter of those goodies) or a couple others on here (I'll let them let you know who they are so there's no accidental outing). I also did a tutorial on making floggers here http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=431. don't know if you know already, but send Johanna a message asking to be let into the adult section. there's also a couple of great armor makers on here doing things that will make ya drool!
  17. thanks roo and shorts! jordan I agree about the trigger area, but that's what he'd asked for along with no thumb break, so that's what he got. *shrug* thanks too!
  18. couple of (I think) fairly minor mistakes. he was real happy with 'em though.
  19. yep. that's what I said. only a little more colorfully. LOL
  20. I've been using super sheen (first the spray can then when that got discontinued the super sheen in the bottle and ran through an airbrush) since i first started making masks a couple months ago and no probs so far and they've been through a bit.
  21. okay. you can stay. *L* seriously excellent piece!
  22. oo! oo! now that's a great mask and explanaition!
  23. holyMOOCOW! now that's snazzy!
  24. wallets, card holders, bike seats... you can stop now. you're making some of us feel bad.
