  1. are you sure those are your first mask and corset? those are both stunning pieces! with the mask, did you overlay patent over vegtan? if so (or if not) what was your process of doing it?
  2. oopsie! my info came from reputable sources too back then. I shoulda checked snopes first too.
  3. the list was actually released about a year and a half ago.
  4. I'm diggin' the card player!
  5. I've tried using bungee cords (both the regular ones and the web type ones) to hold me goodies in place, and stuff still would fall off hooks during flat transport. that's why I decided to go ahead and use the 2" pink insulation foam covered with eggcrate crate foam on both sides. nothing gets out of place now during transport. btw, building them out of 1x4's with metal shelf brackets makes the cases a little lighter and I haven't had any probs with sturdiness out of mine.
  6. I could've sworn that there was something on the books saying that "particleboard leather" couldn't be labeled as "genuine leather" anymore. maybe that's only on stuff produced in the states and not imported?
  7. it wouldn't surprise me if they had one in the '70s, but I doubt it carried over too far into the '80s due to the misconception people got about the design around then. they definitely don't have one now. yeah, I know. that didn't really help any, did it? *L*
  8. ya know what wolvie? thppppt! I always "I". I just change the "y" to "e" in the words "my" and "myself" coz for some reason it's easier for me to hit the "e" instead of the "y". and it follows how I speak. and why am I typing this? am I that bored at work? yeppers! so, anyway, thppppt! again! LOL now then, you're fired. now get back to work.
  9. wildewomyn you're very welcome! this site is the best for learning leatherwork of all types. I put instructions for doing the turksheads on one of the pages of this tutorial. I think it starts on the second page. honestly, I don't understand all the passes, bights etc of doing turksheads. I gave meself migraines for a couple of years before I figured how to do just this one. *L* all I know is that as long as what you're trying to cover isn't a ball shape, the one I did for this tutorial will cover it almost no matter what the height and diameter are. there are others here that can tie other types of these things in their sleep.
  10. while I've always really like guns my whole life, I never paid much attention to holsters other than does it do the job well for what I was carrying at the time and have only had one leather holster which came with the pistol I had (and still have to this day) as a kid. that being said, once I decided to start trying to make holsters (it's actually how I found this wonderful site), the best advice I got on here for designing them was pretty much "think it through then do it". I thought there was a LOT more to it than that, but there's only a little more, really (type of leather, finish, style and a couple other bits). so, that being said also, all my designs have pretty much come about independently, although I'm sure several have been at the very least subconciously influenced by designs I've seen while not paying direct attention to them (because of this there's no way I'd ever call one my designs "original"). my point being, after all that babbling, is that since there are only so many ways of wrapping leather around a piece of metal (or plastic), many people can come up with the same design independent of one another. however, it's just not right to knowingly copy someone else's design and call it your own.

    New Knot

    scouter's knot is a monkey's fist, but david's isn't.
  12. I used photoshop to make a heart shape template that's 3 1/2 inches tall by 4 inches wide and an oval template that's 4 inches wide by 2 inches tall. also did a cutesy looking skull template by hand.
  13. hmmm... the next one should have a pivot on it so when he sits down it'll still be upright for the quick draw. oo! and a bottle opener! dagnabbit! now I might have ta make one. or 2. or 3...
  14. instead of "quickdraw mcgraw" it's "quickdrunk mcgraw"! LOL mmmmmmdeleeeeriuuuummm *droooool*
  15. *sigh* I miss the austin tandy. great people to deal with and usually a great selection of leather in a nice large location. make the drive, tell dennis I said hey and eat at green mesquite (the one right over the bridge from downtown), wan fu (the one on oltorf) or get a balogi (sp?) burger. worth the trip, especially if ya have someone else local to ya that will split the gas.
  16. windy that was pretty much the idea for it. I've always had to do all the loading in, setting up, selling, breaking down and loading out by meself, so I came up with this idea. the original case had 2 wheels and was 4 feet by 5 1/2 feet when closed and opened like a... like a... ack! can't 'members the name of the things. 2 doors on the front that open to the sides. anyway, kept adding designs and items so now I'm at 4 cases that are 3 feet by 5 1/2 feet when closed and open like a book without wheels. I use a dolly and straps for loading in and out 2 at a time. the original case just barely fit into me old minivan, while the new ones had no problem fitting into the old minivan and have no problem fitting into the new one. the most recent addition to the cases are strips of metal flat bar along the tops so I can stick magnetic based lights up there as you can see in the pics. muuuuch better (and better looking) than the clamp lights I was using.
  17. and a couple more pics. I have a very versatile set up system since each case can be set up "flat" or with a 90 degree angle or with whatever angle I need to fit into a space. they're also used as carrying cases since all I do is put foam inside (keeps everything from falling down and in place), close 'em and lock 'em. roll 'em in and out with a dolly. I used 4 cases for this show and set 'em all flat and hid the foam behind 'em. rdb um... "adult leather goodies". or depending on what state I'm in "historical reenactment pieces" or "adult leather goods for novelty use only". LOL
  18. here are a few pics of the set up I used for at Dragoncon. only thing I wish I'd done differently was have covering for the tables, but I wasn't even sure if I was gonna use the tables and had been awake for about 26 hours before loading in so I forgot about takng covers (and a few other things) anyway.
  19. try an airtight bag with a box or 2 of baking soda.
  20. check out wildginger.com and download the free "wild things!" software for some purse patterns that you can customize a bit. it's got a few other patterns along with it. I've played around with it and it's pretty snazzy.
  21. how in the world do ya do the outlines?
  22. I make multiples of most of the stuff I make and carry the extras with me to events. when one sells, I pull out another to replace it. when I get home I just count inventory then make more to get the number back up. as an example I keep 4 sets of single D ring wrist restraints in stock. if I sell 2 sets at an event I make 2 more when I get home. something to remember with most of my stuff though is most of it is done more along the lines of "production pieces". the set of restraints hanging up looks just like the next 20 sets that I'll make for that design even though it's all by hand.
  23. tom banwell on here makes snazzy helmets and such. nice work on that, btw. is it possible to put eyelets or grommets where the attachment holes are?
