Bit far away from Texas, but if it was closer and the price was right I'd probably consider it. YinTx

When can you call yourself a craftsman?
YinTx replied to Handstitched's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
Awaiting explanation before I toss in a pointless opinion... Not so here. Most of those require a license, and in some instances a degree. I know individuals who have interviewed and worked as engineers, and were found out later to have not acquired a Bachelors of Science in said field. It was not pretty. If you work on something that required a PE (Professional Engineers's) stamp, with out said credentials, jail time is not out of the question. Many states the law requires you to prominently display your acquired degree and licensing in your place of employment. You do plumbing etc in a building not under a licensed plumber, bad news. If I'm paying an accountant, I would expect them to be credentialed. So with all this, I've seen folks call themselves "Master (leatherworking skill of something or another)" and have wondered how they came to acquire such titles. In some of those cases, it seemed self-adorned, especially when observing the quality of the work. I have no official training, have not passed any tests, nor have I been endowed with any such titles by any entity, and so I merely refer to myself as a leather worker. Perhaps I am short changing myself, but I'd really prefer not to mislead. YinTx -
Anything in particular you are looking for? Possible I have a duplicate of it these days... YinTx

True that, you could just get to weavin, and stitch a binder strip around the edges, vioala area rug for the work room. But my thinking was simply smaller strips might be more comfy.... If they are strong enough, you could weave chair backs out of them, etc...I like the dog bed idea... you could do lots of things in that path.. YinTx

I had a similar experience to you, so after two tries it went into the drawer and never came out. If you are looking for one to buy, I could probably dig mine out and send it your way... YinTx

I suppose it is possible, I'm no expert in these sort of things. But I did notice that the signatures are slightly different next to the number sequence, for instance the way the last two t's are done, would they do that as a printed signature? Or are you referring to the fancy signature at the end of the paragraph? I suspect that one is printed for sure... YinTx

Video Ultra Slim Wallet
YinTx replied to Jazznow's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
A lot went into that video. A bit long for me, but I enjoyed it on 2x speed with auto-translate! A bit confusing why it needed so many individual pieces, but the end came out cool. Thanks for putting this together and sharing! YinTx- 3 replies

I have a nice belt I made from some 5 oz veg tan, no liner. I use it to mow the yard and to do work, it gets soaked to the bone in water and sweat and grit and grime, let it dry and it works just fine the next time. If it was 9 oz with a 3 oz liner I wouldn't be happy, I'd feel like it would weigh more than the jeans it is holding up. I have another nice belt I wear when I need to look decent, 7 oz with 2-3oz liner, hand stitched, looks sharp, weight doesn't bother me because I'm not working, usually sitting etc. I don't carry, but if I did, I suspect the lighter belt wouldn't do so well. An every day belt in 5 oz with 2 oz liner would probably be just dandy, for me anyhow. Everyone else may differ. YinTx

These sell for $35 new, I'll let it go for $20 plus shipping. Only used a few times, once with an alcohol lamp. This resulted in the haze on the side of the crease, which does not affect the performance at all, as you can see by the crease sample on the leather strap. YinTx
