  2. BTW, I love the double-sided tape Tandy sells, use it and don't have issues.
  3. Nice job! If your pinkies get sore, you can always use leather sleeves on them. I use them if doing anything larger than say a watch strap.
  4. Thanks for the link! Can I ask how you fasten the brass feet? I assume they are crimped on.
  5. I try to keep them flush. Seems to me trimming opens up the potential for real problems. Sanding happens, of course, but I try to avoid any cutting post-stitch. YMMV!
  6. That is beautiful edge work. Others might have different methods, but so long as the results are there, do your own thing. And your communication skills are great. Thanks for sharing!
  7. Boriqua, how about taking the bolt out entirely and using a spring clamp? Not an elegant solution but quick and easy. I've seen Ian Atkinson do this and it seems eminently practical.
  8. I am sure he will love it. And the love and care you put into it must be very satisfying.
  9. Samuji.com is where the belt is/was sold. Try asking them. It might be custom for them.
  10. Make sure to express your thanks to VanDutch also. Glad it helps!
  11. A very generous forum member posted some templates awhile ago. I'm sure you can print out the file and adjust the size according to your needs. http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=54361
  12. I see the pricking wheel so I presume you used an awl? Nice looking work, color is excellent as is the stitching. What led to your decision to not continue the padding all the way down the strap?
  13. Too bad your retirement park doesn't have a woodshop. My inlaws winter in Harlingen, TX and for a small fee you can use a wide array of tools in their woodshop. Great job on the pony!
  14. No, not necessarily. Check out this verbiage...
  15. Try Ohio Travel Bag, they have lots of interesting buckles. Saw another company Pacific Trimming or something like that featuring lots of unique buckles.
  16. Suggest you call Springfield. They are super helpful and friendly.
  17. Had some 12 year old Macallan recently. Good stuff! I don't lay awake at night thinking about leather issues, but I tend to surf for lots of examples of things I want to make and frequently very late at night. Or morning, as will be the case tonight.
  18. TT, that makes perfect sense, good suggestion.
  19. Not a saddle maker, so others can chime in, but it seems reasonable that you could use an existing saddle as a pattern. As far as tools, take a look at the beginners forum. There are numerous threads covering the basics. The search function is your friend.
  20. Tandy and others sell them. Going rate seems cheap at $8.00 or so.
  21. Good point. Personally, I would line the tote bag with vinyl or something else washable in the event of spills.
  22. I think the person is not experienced. If oil-based dyes were so bad, why would anyone want them? What is needed is a finish, something to seal the leather and "lock" the dye in. Resolene, Super Sheen, etc., etc. help prevent bleeding. Search this forum for more info. Type in oil dye bleeding and you should turn up lots of threads. Good luck!
  23. Take a look at this video if you haven't. http://youtu.be/3zTOqJCWbfY Thickness of the leather, size of hole and size of thread will all affect the outcome.
