Beautiful job, David. Once again, I am humbled.

Thanks, Greg. I've got a bunch of those. And thanks to Luke and Johanna also.
-
Yep, those things. Thank you, everyone, for the replies.

Well done, Larry. I agree with Beaverslayer. I've done some of the whipstitching and agree--it's finicky. Mine was on bullrope blocks, and what I found is that the lace tends to pull-down, or become narrower as you go. Yours looks a heck of a lot better than mine ever did.

Weaver Leather Company's Master Series of tools
BruceGibson replied to whinewine's topic in Leather Tools
Weaver's round knife is my personal favorite. It's the one I reach for and keep close. I've been using it for a little over a year and I have no complaints. As for the punches, I've got three or four, but I don't use them near as much as David. I can't provide much review beyond saying they "look good." I'll be watching for the edges to roll--if they do, Weaver's getting them back. -
Thanks, everybody! Greg--the tacks you mention--are they the ones with the plastic heads on them? The type folks use on maps? M.J.--I know exactly which clips you're talking about, but I can't remember what they're called either. I want to say "binder clips," and they come in several different sizes. Much obliged for the responses!

Is any one coming to Sturgis, SD ?
BruceGibson replied to Clay's topic in Special Events, Contests and Classes
Congratulations on the new store. I won't be able to make Sturgis, but I'd sure like to. However, I will wish you the very best with your new venture. -
Welcome, Samuel. Great to have you here.

I've seen some chaps, and a bunch of chinks, with twisted fringe. I've never done it, and don't have a clue HOW TO do it. Anybody want to share the secret? I'd sure like to know how to do that.

Happy Birthday!

Nice work, Misty! Welcome to the forum!

Thanks, Darc & Bruce. Your responses were fair and well-reasoned. And Bruce's brief review of what he's seen of the new Harwood DVD's is much appreciated. I'll look forward to more.

Just for the sake of discussion, the "tape you sell that comes out of Colorado" is the top-selling DVD of its kind in the nation. The book that accompanies it is also the number one seller. It doesn't cover, nor does it pretend to, all the tricks and intricacies of what other "custom" saddle makers do. It is exactly what it presents itself to be. And I've sold hundreds. The number of complaints I've gotten? Zero. For the four hundred ($400) dollar price tag...or two hundred ($200) dollars per DVD, I'd like some detail. What am I getting? It's not too much to ask. Hell, the package I sell for $79.95 includes every detail of the contents, including the full-size patterns. Besides, if you have to knock mine to sell yours, yours must not be too damn good. At least mine's proven. Eighty thousand (that's EIGHTY THOUSAND) happy customers would agree.

Ditto...great work, Ed. Charge more. You're clearly worth it.
-
Greg, I don't doubt what you're saying. I only cited my experience. And I already have Dale's address and phone number. My position hasn't changed, but as a result of my experience, I'll stand back and watch. At least for now.
-
David, It's big, but it dang sure ain't ugly. I don't think you could do ugly if you tried.
-
Got my attention. I hand-stitch using a Dremel. You just kicked my "caution" up a notch.

I like the Bill Gomer videos, but they do lack any reference to stirrups, fenders, and stirrup leathers...along with flanks and billets. I inquired about the Harwood DVD set as soon as I became aware of its impending release, but the response I got didn't inspire confidence. Subsequently, I sent another e-mail asking about the contents and retail price and it was ignored. So I sent another. It, too, was ignored. That pretty much made my mind up. So, instead of ordering the set now, I'll stand back and see how things go. I may buy it, but I quite likely won't. With Gomer, Johnson, Jeremiah Watt, and a couple others well established teaching folks to attach leather to saddle trees, I don't know that I need to hear from Dale Harwood via whoever it is that's marketing this product. If it was coming from Dale himself, then I'd be willing to listen. And I'd expect a response to my e-mails.

Ed, Take a look here... Colonel Littleton Yours, in my opinion, are much nicer, and would be my choice if I were in the market. Check out the retail.
-
Very nice! And I've got the same question as wolvenstien...how much?
-
Interesting how that's evolved. I'm comfortable with either word, or both used interchangeably. My Australian bullriders would always ask me to "plait" them a rope, whereas my American riders would occasionally say "braid," but most often say "build."

Ah, once again I've been humbled. Those are beautiful. Hell, even the stitching's perfect.
