The things I do..
OLDNSLOW replied to Sanch's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
nice job, like that pattern, how thick is that leather? -
All that is it looks like is a subcompact 1911, so that is all you need to look for. All Kimber's are in their basic form is a 1911, so all you need to figure out is what size and that one looks to be a subcompact 1911, most all blue gun makers make that Rings from the right vendor might 42.00 and shipping!

Can leather be tooled after resolene has been applied?
OLDNSLOW replied to thekid77's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
Any can be done, however it might not come out all that great, you might be better off striping the leather then tooling. If it had been dyed and not clear coated you could get away with it, but heck take a small section of scrap and try it your mileage might very. -
nice job, that birds eye is a little on the dark side, I am use to seeing it very light in color when used to make cue sticks with.

What Is The Way To Store Leather Hides And Leftover Leather?
OLDNSLOW replied to dms1's topic in How Do I Do That?
Being floor space is a premium in this case and your not sure about your ceiling, your husband can always get a stud finder at Lowes or Home Depot and then find the cross beams in the ceiling, those more familiar might correct but the cross beams are usually of 6 inch centers, he could sink some very long eye bolts into the ceiling so that you could hang things. There would be any great cost involved and it would help keep your floor space open. -
Your bio doesn't list your location! And you might try SLC, SCL anyway you get what I mean they might have stuff that small, or I think I read that they are now offering some is sizes that will work for you. And your location will help if there is someone around you with a splitter that can help you out?

I try to cut right on the line so that once cut it will not show the ink on the leather, but as I get older and hands hurt more and become a little more unstable it doesn't always work out that way. If I do cut right on the line both pieces will line up. I am sure more of the well seasoned folks can provide better info so we can get some popcorn sit back and read the comments as they roll in.

Sheesh tell me about it, and now I am doing battle with the V.A. you know that one, ya that one that leaves dead patients in the hallway or over books the lies about it. I thought when I gave up my time way back in the 70's that it would kind of be there to choose between it and the Medicare that the government says they give us because it is all their money, well anyway I digress.

well good then there several that will know if they are worth buying, I kind of figured out long a go that were really not reinventing the wheel and if those that came before us could have left detailed drawings be hind some of the greatness could have continued with duplication, copying someone is said to be the greatest for of flattery, so if what you bought can help someone else decide that it is a starting point and improve upon it then the continuum continues and the leather are will still live on. Whew ee that was a hole lot of BS

ooh kay have fun with them!
-
Even if your across the pond ya might look at ebay ya just never know they might just ship.
-
Well now you cant stop there, you have to give it up on what ya bought and if there aint no phots it didn't happen!

I am no expert by any stretch but depending on the type of dye you use it dries out the leather, now I am going to take a lot of heat for the next comment. If you were to ask for an MSDS sheet on what is suppose to be oil base dye, you would not find any oil in it that I know of, what you will find is Alcohol of some kind or if you mix your dye with denatured alcohol it has a tendency to dry out the leather real fast. So what I have been doing is while the dye is drying I apply a coat of oil to the holster, belt, what ever it may be, I will also do a little dance with some 2 wax and oil rub and buff. then maybe a little more oil then I wet form and maybe the dance again with the 2 wax and oil rubbed and buffed then on to some clear coat. Your process may very this is what I do and no problems yet and If mine is not the only holster in the drawer then I am doing ok.

First holster attempt
OLDNSLOW replied to ToddMaine's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I was sort of thinking along the lines of JLS but different, I was thinking it was setting a little to high and would cause it to tip, Not sure how did feel after wearing it? -
Looks on a puter are very deceiving, so if the holes are smaller than what it looks like in person it might be worth while, however if they are a larger than what we really see here then it becomes perforated leather and a weak spot, I am sure you know that but just in Case!

Another thought that came to mind is find someone that has an embroidery business that can do the embroidery for you on to the leather, like a wrack of 9 or the whole wrack.

Being your in Cali you might want to look around for someone that has a digital printer that can print direct to the leather for you. There has been another conversation about someone doing it with holsters, I would imagine with the all the clothing things that go on in L. A. there might be someone there, but you only mention Cali in your Bio.

There is mixed bag of reactions to the use of Olive oil here on the site, and of course there is the issue of how much olive oil in the oil. Some reports that I have read indicate that in some instances there is a low content of true olive oil, in the oil otherwise the cost would be much higher than what it goes for. That's doesn't mean you cant try it and use it if that is the only option you have just chose wisely.

are you talking about something for cue cases? Or what else could you talking about? A little more info might help get you going in the direction you want to go in.

it looks like exhaust tube that came off of a v twin in a way, at least that is what it looks like to me. Is the bottom post going to be used as a pin to drop in a hole on a table?

That came out nice -
ya here in Clarksville as well, been thinking about trying to find someone around here to turn one for me. I was thinking some of the gun guys here in town that do gun stuff, or there are a few guys I met a couple of years ago when I was running parts for napa here in town.
