with out question you will need to define what a ton of money is? Two of the types of machine that comes to mind is either a cowboy 4500 I think it is or the equivalent cobra 4, so other members here might proclaim that one is far great than the other, but, either way your looking at 2300.00 to 2700.00 dollars for either of these machines. I just happen to be up late and came to read what might be new postings, so by the morning or midday Monday you will probably have far greater mounds of info with a bias as to why you should select one machine over the other, but the bottom line is the price in the range that I mentioned above. heck, if you could find a cheap pulley made out of steal or aluminuminum it would work as well don't really need no bolo wood, someone some where figured it worked and could make some cash and hasn't looked back ever since, really just find a good solid pulley it'll work.

was it oiled with something before you got it that caused a shift or acted like a blocker? Was it a known type of leather or was it a mystery leather? -

a lot of truth in what Northwind says, however, if you are doing any projecting in subsequent years and growth is considerable, or you want the growth and the money spent now could be used for advertising what then. If you have used all your cash now on a machine, and you wish you would have hung on to some for advertising it would be to late as it went all on the machine. One option you could look at is a larger down payment on an LTO so that you keep your monthly low and still have some cash to advertise with or buy other needed start up items, leather, dyes, thread, and so on, just more things to toss around and think about.

question about this, I went to the addy to posted above and it looks like there is a large data base sort of set up where there is more than 1 person on there offering their 3d printing services so how would we know that we are contacting the guy that did your tray? I signed up and sent a message but not sure it is going to the person you know, please help out with that a bit. Thanks

I mix mine to about 50/50 using denatured alcohol, I haven't cut it any further as the 50/50 works fine.

Edge Guide for Consew 225 (and clones)
OLDNSLOW replied to KeithHideWorks's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Lowes as well as home depot carry small packets of rare earth magnets, I made a guide out of the plastic wood that they sell, I don't have a photo handy but it is similar to one of the builds above. The nice thing about the packets of magnets is they are not all that expensive to buy and of course for us here in the states there is usually a store near by. -
sounds like a plan, gives incentive to the none ass draggers! oops did I say that

Interesting concept Bruce, even some of the large trucking companies that I use to work for had a sister company that owned everything or most everything and they in turn would lease it to the sister trucking company. And of course the reason behind that is that everything leased can be written off, so that at the end of their accounting year it would all be written off. I experienced the same thing as you with a previous business however I didn't lease anything I had bought outright but could only write off depreciation, so in the long run it isn't as bad as it seems if you don't have all the money to buy outright a LTO isn't as bad as it seems and even if you can afford to buy outright, if you lease you then always have the cash for that rainy day when it might be needed for a potential slow time.

Belt Length
OLDNSLOW replied to mojave's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
this is a few weeks old now but glad it is here but, it does not really answer the question that popped into my head. and I did go to my trusty Stohlman book to look for the answer, but was wondering who follows that guide line which is from the middle hole on the one side to the end of the belt he calls for five inches. who follows that guideline or how much do you deviate from that and how much extra do you give? thanks in advance Ron -
ya done good agin

Would any one want a template for lifting straps ?
OLDNSLOW replied to kennedyk's topic in Patterns and Templates
there may be some people here that do repairs on the straps so a pattern might come in handy thanks for the offer, will look forward to the post. -
Another way of looking at is that the ROI on that tool, at the end of the year regardless of it being a money maker or just another low ROI on that one sale is the fact that the original purchase is tax deductible as a tool needed for the business. and yes tools are deductible as they are an important factor in doing business. so why should the client pay for it when you get to right it as the cost of doing business, just like using a portion of the house, garage, or what ever other space you use is deductible as it contributes to the P & L of the business.

Let me tell you a story, the mold guns are like tools as a diesel mechanic in the past before I went into management we responsible for buying our own tools. We had to do that often as a bout every new model that came out the MFG's would use a different type of screw head or they would mix standard with metric and you just never knew what it was going to be, some companies might have been under a contract that would provide a tools allowance but most didn't. Mold duns are just the same it is a tool, so in order to keep up you have to buy the mold. Now here's my take on the situation, if you don't have that particular mold you can buy it and do the job and have the tool for future jobs or not buy it and pass on the job but asking the customer or letting them know that you don't have it and the fees you collect from them will be used to buy the tool is what will take place and make a little less on the job, is the most favorable. But to think that they should pay for the mold gun and the holster is not a wise choice, but it is your business. If I don't have it I will let the customer know that and that I will buy the mold that is needed because you never know when someone else will come along asking for the same type of holster, same with mechanics tools you just never know when that tool will be needed again but you now own it and can do the job after maybe sitting in a tool box for a year. This is just my own opinion I am sure those with greater experience will say I am all wet. sorry for going on so long p.s. never sell your tools never know when it will be needed.

I use a line 24 pull the dot snap with a screw and use the 8/32 with a flat head, you might want to experiment with the different sizes to see what works best for you. Most everything except the snap can be bought at Lowes or Home Depot. I by the pull the dot at 100 of each part , I just got a sale flier from Weaver that had some snaps on sale at a great price whole sale.
